Lipid events in liposome-mediated transfection (lipofection) are largely unknown. Here we studied whether phospholipase D (PLD), an important enzyme responsible for phospholipid breakdown, was affected during lipofection of HepG2 cells with a luciferase plasmid. Synthetic cholesterol (Chol) derivatives, including $3{\beta}$[L-ornithinamide-carbamoyl]Chol, [polyamidoamine-carbamoyl]Chol and $3{\beta}$[N-(N',N'-dimethylaminoethane)-carbamoyl]Chol, and a cationic lipid, N-[1-(2,3-dioleyloxy)propyl]-N,N,N-trimethylammonium chloride were mixed with a helper lipid dioleoylphosphatidylethanolamine to form respective cationic liposomes. All cationic liposomes were found to stimulate PLD. Although orders of magnitude effects of the cationic liposomes on PLD stimulation did not consistently match those on cytotoxicity and luciferase expression, a causal relationship between PLD activation and cytotoxic effect was remarkable. PLD stimulation by the cationic liposomes was likely due to their amphiphilic characters, leading to membrane perturbation, as supported by similar results obtained with other membrane-perturbing chemicals such as oleate, melittin, and digitonin. Our results suggest that lipofection induces cellular lipid changes such as a PLD-driven phospholipid turnover.

The present study was conducted to assess the relationship between obesity and abdominal obesity and Parathyroid hormone (PTH) in adults aged 50 or older (n=3,305) using 2011 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) data, which represents national data in Korea. Key study results were as follows: First, the PTH levels increased significantly with an increase in Body mass index (BMI) (p=0.003), shown by sIAD levels after adjusted the variables that affect sIAD levels (age, gender, SBP, DBP, and 25(OH)D). These were $66.25{\pm}0.89ng/dL$ for Normal weight (BMI, < $23.0kg/m^2$), $67.83{\pm}1.07 ng/dL$ for Overweight (BMI, $23.0-24.9kg/m^2$), $70.71{\pm}0.94ng/dL$ for Obesity (BMI,${\geq}25.0kg/m^2$). Second, the PTH level of abdominal obesity group ($69.30{\pm}0.80ng/dL$) was significantly higher (p=0.017) than non-abdominal obesity group ($66.63{\pm}0.74ng/dL$). In conclusion, BMI and waist measurement are positively associated with the PTH levels in Korean adults.

The arils of Euphoria longana L. was extracted with 80% aqueous MeOH, and the concentrated extract was partitioned with EtOAc, n-BuOH and $H_2O$. From the n-BuOH fraction, four compounds were isolated through the repeated silica gel, ODS and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatographies. From the result of physico-chemical data including NMR, MS and IR, the chemical structures of the compounds were determined as 1,1-dimethyl-2propenyl $1-O-{\beta}-D-glucopyranoside$, ethyl ,${\beta}-D-glucopyranoside$, 5-(hydroxymethyl)-2-furfur-aldehyde and uridine. Uridine exhibited inhibition effect of 79% on platelet aggregation at the concentration of$5\;{\mu}g/ml$.

We confirmed that the 1 compound, N,N'-di(p-dimehylaniline)benza1d-1,4-diimine, with two imine bond showed a reversible trans-cis photoisomerization which was recovered to the original state in 8 minutes through the spectroscopic studies.

Son $th{\acute{e}}{\hat{a}}tre$ de torture est donc une sorte de $m{\acute{e}}canisme$ de la catharsis pour dissiper le cauchemar et l'inconscient noir. La fantasie sexuelle construite par le monde inconscient de l'auteur dramatique $s^{\prime}{\acute{e}}panouit$ dans le $th{\acute{e}}{\hat{a}}tre$ de Chae yoon-il qui $r{\hat{e}}ve$ toujours l'esprit de la $libert{\acute{e}}$. Une des convictions dramatiques du metteur en $sc{\grave{e}}ne$, c'est que le $th{\acute{e}}{\hat{a}}tre$ tout d'abord doit ${\hat{e}}tre$ choquant. Il dit : "l'art doit ${\hat{e}}tre$ ${\grave{a}}$ la fois ${\acute{e}}mouvant$ et bouleversant. Cependant, dans la mesure $o{\grave{u}}$ le film ou la $t{\acute{e}}l{\acute{e}}vivion$ fait aujourd'hui une vive impression aux spectateurs, la part $donn{\acute{e}}e$ au $th{\acute{e}}{\hat{a}}tre$ est le choc." Pour donner le choc aux spectateurs, le style de la torture est $tr{\grave{e}}s$ utile. $L^{\prime}esth{\acute{e}}tique$ $th{\acute{e}}{\hat{a}}tral$ du metteur en $sc{\grave{e}}ne$ respecte essentiellement l'intention de l'auteur. $N{\acute{e}}anmois$, le respect sur l'original ne se $d{\acute{e}}range$ pas $l^{\prime}interpr{\acute{e}}tation$ de son propre $id{\acute{e}}e$. Dans l'insistance de la torture, l'analyse rituelle sous la base du choc, il projecte le symbole $arch{\acute{e}}typal$ sur $sc{\grave{e}}ne$. Bien $s{\hat{u}}r$, il renforce le $caract{\grave{e}}re$ de la politique dans le $th{\acute{e}}{\hat{a}}tre$ de torture pour inviter des spectateurs de l'engagement. D'ailleurs, il y a l'aspect d'absurde dans le $th{\acute{e}}{\hat{a}}tre$ de torture qui insiste des violences ${\grave{a}}$ travers les langages $sc{\acute{e}}niques$ comme le $m{\acute{e}}tal$ froid, parce que le metteur en $sc{\grave{e}}ne$ $consid{\grave{e}}re$ que $l^{\prime}{\hat{e}}tre$ humain vit dans l'absurde.

Background: Off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCAB) has shown better outcome in chronic renal failure (CRF) patients by avoiding the effects of cardiopulmonary bypass. We evaluated renal function after OPCAB in CRF patients. Material and Method: 656 patients underwent OPCAB between January, 2001 and December, 2004. Data were collected in 26 CRF patients (Cr > 1.7 mg/dL). Preoperative/postoperative creatinine (Cr) levels, creatinine clearance and postoperative data were evaluated. We divided the patients into group 1 (Cr < 3 mg/dL) and group 2 (Cr $\geq$ 3 mg/dL). Result: Three patients started dialysis after surgery. Preoperative mean creatinine level (4.19$\pm$3.4 mg/dL) was elevated to 4.36$\pm$2.7 mg/dL at the third postoperative day and decreased below Preoperative level at the fifth postoperative day. In group 1 (mean Cr level=1.87$\pm$0.25 mg/dL), Cr level reached its peak level of 2.19$\pm$0.52 mg/dL at the fourth postoperative day (p=0.017), with subsequent decrease. Patients without pre- or postoperative dialysis (n=15) showed peak Cr elevation on postoperative day four (p=0.017) and subsequent decrease (p=0.01). Postoperative creatinine clearance showed reverse correlation with creatinine level. Conclusion: Creatinine level was elevated at third/fourth postoperative day, but decreased 5 days after surgery. Thus, if urgent dialysis is not indicated, postoperative renal replacement therapy in CRF patients may be better to be considered after four days observation.

Cysteine desulfhydrase (EC 4.4.1.1.) was purified from the culture supernatant of Streptomyces albidoflavus SMF301 by hydroxyapatite, gel filtration and Resource Q ion-exchange chromatography with a purification fold of six identical subunits. The enzyme was stabilized by dithiothreitol and pyridoxal 5'-phosphate during the purification procedures. The optimum pH and temperature were pH 8.6 and 35$^{\circ}C$, respectively. The N-terminal amino acid sequence was identified as A-P-L-P-T-A-D-V-R-S-D-P-G-Y-R-E-W-L-G-E-A-V. The purified cystein desulfhydrase had a high substrate specificity toward cysteine, and exhibited no cystahionine $\gamma$-lyase activity. The $K_m$ value for cysteine was determined to be 0.37 mM.

The electron transport coefficients(the electron drift velocity, W, and the longitudinal and transverse diffusion coefficient, D$_{L}$ and D$_{T}$) in SiH$_4$-Ar mixtures containing 0.5% and 5.0% monosilane were calculated over the E/N range from 0.01 to 300 Td and over the gas pressure range 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 Torr by the time-of-flight(TOF) method of the Boltzmann equation(BE.) and Monte-Carlo simulation(MCS). The electron energy distribution function in each SiH$_4$-Ar mixtures at E/N=10 Td and L=0.2 cm, which in equilibrium region in the mean electron enregy were compared.red.

The activities of auxins and cytokinins have been examined in the growth of callus tissue derived from Phaseolus vulgaris L. cv. Damyang. The synthetic auxin, picloram was the most effective in promoting callus growth and the range of effective concentrations (0.1$\mu{M}$ to 32$\mu{M}$) was broad. 2, 4-D also enhanced callus growth at the optimal concentration of 3.2$\mu{M}$. NAA promoted callus growth at relatively higher concentrations than other auxins tested. IAA was less effective in supporting callus growth. Cytokinin bearing saturated side chain ($N^6$-isopentyladenine) was approximately 30 times more active than the corresponding unsaturated compound, $N^6$-($\D^2$-isopentenyl) adenine. The abilities of cytokinin-autonomous growth were also examined. Callus tissues previously grown on concentrations lower and/or higher than optimal concentrations of cytokinins were better habituated in the subsequent passage. It was suggested that the development of cytokinin autonomy may be related to dosage-concentrations of cytokinin in the previous passage.
