  • For a given graph G = (V, E), a set $D{\subseteq}V(G)$ is said to be an outer-connected vertex edge dominating set if D is a vertex edge dominating set and the graph $G{\backslash}D$ is connected. The outer-connected vertex edge domination number of a graph G, denoted by ${\gamma}^{oc}_{ve}(G)$, is the cardinality of a minimum outer connected vertex edge dominating set of G. We characterize trees T of order n with l leaves, s support vertices, for which ${\gamma}^{oc}_{ve}(T)=(n-l+s+1)/3$ and also characterize trees with equal domination number and outer-connected vertex edge domination number.

  • The 14-membered tetraaza macrocyclic ligand 1,8-diethyl-5,12-dimethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclote tradeca-4,11-diene(B) can be synthesized as its dihydroperchlorate salt by the one-pot reaction of 2-ethylaminoethylamine, methylvinyl ketone, and perchloric acid in absolute ethanol. The reaction of Ni(II) or Cu(II) ion and the salt yields $[M(B)]^{2+}$ (M = Ni(II) or Cu(II)), which reacts with $NaBH_4$ to produce $[M(D)]^{2+}$ (D = 1,8-diethyl-5,12-dimethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclote tradecane). The complexes $[M(L)]^{2+}$ (L = B or D) have planar geometry and contain two ethyl groups at the donor nitrogen atoms of the ligands. The red solids $[Cu(B)](X)_2(X)$ = $ClO_4-$ or $PF_6^-$) react with water molecules of atmospheric moisture to produce the purple solids in which water molecules are coordinated to the metal ion. Synthesis, characterization, and the properties of the new N-ethylated macrocyclic ligands and their Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes are reported.

  • Three series of copolyterephthalamides having biphenyl-2,2'-diyl structure in the main chain, were synthesized from p-phenylene-containing diamines such as p-phenylene diamine, 4,4'-oxydianiline or 1,4-bis(4-aminophenoxy)benzene, with mixed diacids of terephthalic acid and 2,2'-bibenzoic acid by the direct polycondensation method. The resulting copolymers had inherent viscosities ranging from 0.46 to 0.93dL/g, and most of them could be readily dissolved in polar aprotic solvents including N,N-dimethyl acetamide and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone. These copolymers had glass transition temperatures between 239 and $326^{\circ}C$, and their 10% weight loss temperatures were recorded in the range of $410{\sim}485^{\circ}C$ in nitrogen atmosphere.

  • Purpose : The present study examined the etiology, management, and the difference of prognosis according to methodology of treatment in severe hyperbilirubinemia with total serum bilirubin levels of more than 25 mg/dL. Methods : Medical records of severe hyperbilirubiemia in newborns(serum level=25 mg/dL) admitted to the NICU of Samsung Medical Center between October 1994 and June 2004 were reviewed retrospectively. Infants were grouped according to methodology of treatment : Group I(phototherapy only, n=42), Group II(exchange transfusion, n=6). And In addition, we evaluated the etiology and the difference of prognosis. Results : A total of 48 documented cases of severe hyperbilirubinemia were identified. Birth weight was significantly lower in Group 2($2,852{\pm}1,085g$) compared to Group 1($3,137{\pm}437g$)(P<0.05). There were no significant differences in gestational age, sex, mode of delivery, inborn, age at presentation, and age at first examination and admission between the two study groups. Maximal bilirubin level was significantly higher in Group 2($45{\pm}16mg/dL$) compared to Group 1($29{\pm}6mg/dL$) (P<0.05). But there were no significant differences in neurologic outcome. Conclusion : Our study suggests that the present guidelines for managing hyperbilirubinemia in newborns should be effective but follow-up with the first postnatal week would be necessary for each detection and treatment in the newborn infants with high risk of severe hyperbilirubinemia.

  • In this paper, we try to generalize ultraproducts in the category of locally convex spaces. To do so, we introduce D-ultracolimits. It is known [7] that the topology on a non-trivial ultraproduct in the category T $V^{ec}$ of topological vector spaces and continuous linear maps is trivial. To generalize the category Ba $n_{1}$ of Banach spaces and linear contractions, we introduce the category L $C_{1}$ of vector spaces endowed with families of semi-norms closed underfinite joints and linear contractions (see Definition 1.1) and its subcategory, L $C_{2}$ determined by Hausdorff objects of L $C_{1}$. It is shown that L $C_{1}$ contains the category LC of locally convex spaces and continuous linear maps as a coreflective subcategory and that L $C_{2}$ contains the category Nor $m_{1}$ of normed linear spaces and linear contractions as a coreflective subcategory. Thus L $C_{1}$ is a suitable category for the study of locally convex spaces. In L $C_{2}$, we introduce $l_{\infty}$(I. $E_{i}$ ) for a family ( $E_{i}$ )$_{i.mem.I}$ of objects in L $C_{2}$ and then for an ultrafilter u on I. we have a closed subspace $N_{u}$ . Using this, we construct ultraproducts in L $C_{2}$. Using the relationship between Nor $m_{1}$ and L $C_{2}$ and that between Nor $m_{1}$ and Ba $n_{1}$, we show thatour ultraproducts in Nor $m_{1}$ and Ba $n_{1}$ are exactly those in the literatures. For the terminology, we refer to [6] for the category theory and to [8] for ultraproducts in Ba $n_{1}$..

  • Solvolyses of N-methyl-N-phenylcarbamoyl chlorides in aqueous binary mixtures of acetone, ethanol, methanol and in water, D2O, and 50% D2O-CH3OD are investigated at 25.0 $^{\circ}C.$ The Grunwald-Winstein plots of first-ord er rate constants for N-methyl-N-phenylcarbamoyl chlorides with YCl (based on 2-adamantyl chloride) show a dispersion phenomenon. The ring parameter (I) has been shown to give considerable improvement when it is added as an hI term to the original Grunwald-Winstein and extended Grunwald-Winstein correlations for the solvolyses of N-methyl-N-phenylcarbamoyl chlorides. This study has shown that the magnitude of l, m and h values associated with a change of solvent composition is able to predict the dissociative SN2 transition state. The kinetic solvent isotope effects determined in deuterated water are consistent with the proposed mechanism of the general base catalyzed and/or a dissociative SN2 mechanism channel for N-methyl-N-phenylcarbamoyl chlorides solvolyses.

  • Silverman [14] proved a height inequality for a jointly regular family of rational maps and the author [10] improved it for a jointly regular pair. In this paper, we provide the same improvement for a jointly regular family: let h : ${\mathbb{P}}_{\mathbb{Q}}^n{\rightarrow}{{\mathbb{R}}$ be the logarithmic absolute height on the projective space, let r(f) be the D-ratio of a rational map f which is de ned in [10] and let {$f_1,{\ldots},f_k|f_l:\mathbb{A}^n{\rightarrow}\mathbb{A}^n$} bbe finite set of polynomial maps which is defined over a number field K. If the intersection of the indeterminacy loci of $f_1,{\ldots},f_k$ is empty, then there is a constant C such that $ \sum\limits_{l=1}^k\frac{1}{def\;f_\iota}h(f_\iota(P))>(1+\frac{1}{r})f(P)-C$ for all $P{\in}\mathbb{A}^n$ where r= $max_{\iota=1},{\ldots},k(r(f_l))$.

  • The present paper consists of two parts. Since the recent paper [4] proved that an Alexandroff $T_0$-space is a semi-$T_{\frac{1}{2}}$-space, the first part studies semi-open and semi-closed structures of the Khalimsky nD space. The second one focuses on the study of a relation between the LS-property of ($SC^{n_1,l_1}_{k_1}{\times}SC^{n_2,l_2}_{k_2}$, k) relative to the simple closed $k_i$-curves $SC^{n_i,l_i}_{k_i}$, $i{\in}\{1,2\}$ and its normal k-adjacency. In addition, the present paper points out that the main theorems of Boxer and Karaca's paper [3] such as Theorems 4.4 and 4.7 of [3] cannot be new assertions. Indeed, instead they should be attributed to Theorems 4.3 and 4.5, and Example 4.6 of [10].

  • In order to investigate the potential of Nigella sativa (N. sativa) oil as an active ingredient for whitening cosmetics, we prepared N. sativa oil. We measured its inhibitory effects on mushroom tyrosinase activity, cellular tyrosinase activity, and melanin synthesis inhibitory activity in B16 melanoma cells. N. sativa oil and its components showed inhibitory activity against mushroom tyrosinase and melanin synthesis. In a melanin synthesis inhibition assay using mouse B16-F10 melanoma cell, it reduced melanin production up to 86 % at a concentration of 10 mg/mL without cytotoxicity. In the study on the melanogenic protein expressions by using RT-PCR and Western blot, N. sativa oil and its components inhibited expression of tyrosinase protein, which is a well-known key protein on melanogenesis, and tyrosinase expression was gradually decreased in a dose-dependent manner. Therefore, this result suggests that N. sativa oil could be used as an active ingredient for whitening cosmetics.

  • Let $[n]=\{1,2,{\ldots},n\}$. A set ${\mathbf{A}}=\{A_1,A_2,{\ldots},A_l\}$ is a minimal cover of [n] if ${\cup}_{1{\leq}i{\leq}l}A_i=[n]$ and $$\bigcup_{{1{\leq}i{\leq}l,}\\{i{\neq}j_0}}A_i{\neq}[n]\text{ for all }j_0{\in}[l]$$. Let ${\mathcal{C}}(n)$ denote the collection of all minimal covers of [n], and write $C_n={\mid}{\mathcal{C}}(n){\mid}$. Let ${\mathbf{A}}{\in}{\mathcal{C}}(n)$. An element $u{\in}[n]$ is critical in ${\mathbf{A}}$ if it appears exactly once in ${\mathbf{A}}$. Two minimal covers ${\mathbf{A}},{\mathbf{B}}{\in}{\mathcal{C}}(n)$ are said to be restricted t-intersecting if they share at least t sets each containing an element which is critical in both ${\mathbf{A}}$ and ${\mathbf{B}}$. A family ${\mathcal{A}}{\subseteq}{\mathcal{C}}(n)$ is said to be restricted t-intersecting if every pair of distinct elements in ${\mathcal{A}}$ are restricted t-intersecting. In this paper, we prove that there exists a constant $n_0=n_0(t)$ depending on t, such that for all $n{\geq}n_0$, if ${\mathcal{A}}{\subseteq}{\mathcal{C}}(n)$ is restricted t-intersecting, then ${\mid}{\mathcal{A}}{\mid}{\leq}{\mathcal{C}}_{n-t}$. Moreover, the bound is attained if and only if ${\mathcal{A}}$ is isomorphic to the family ${\mathcal{D}}_0(t)$ consisting of all minimal covers which contain the singleton parts $\{1\},{\ldots},\{t\}$. A similar result also holds for restricted r-cross intersecting families of minimal covers.
