Gradient centrifugal partition chromatography (GCPC) method was developed and applied to isolate 3,5-dimethoxyphenanthrene-2,7-diol (DMP) and batatasin-I (BA-I) from the dichloromethane soluble extract of Dioscorea opposita. In this method, the lower phase of n-hexane-methanol-water system (HMW, 10 : 9 : 1, v/v) was used as a mobile phase A (MpA) and water was used as a mobile phase B (MpB). This gradient CPC method is comparable to that of reversed-phase HPLC method in that the stationary upper-phase of HMW (10 : 9 : 1 v/v) works as if it were reversed-phase silica gel due to its hydrophobic property, while the lower phase (MpA) and water (MpB) functioned as hydrophilic mobile phases. The initial condition of the mobile phase was 20% MpA/80% MpB and maintained for 150 min to obtain DMP (1.2 mg), and then MpA was increased up to 50% to elute BA-I (1.7 mg). The purities of DMP and BA-I were 94.1% and 98.3% with the recovery yields of 83% and 86%, respectively. Similar results were obtained by linear-gradient CPC. The CPC peak fractions were identified by comparing their retention time to those of authentic samples of DMP and BA-I and their spectroscopic data ($^1$H NMR and $^{13}$C NMR) to those of literature values.
NdFeB films have been grown onto Si(100) substrate by a KrF pulsed laser ablation of the targets of $Nd_xFe_{90.98-x}B_{9.02}$ (x=17.51~27.51) at the substrate temperature of 620~700 $^{\circ}C$ and the laser beam energy density of 2.75~5.99 J/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The films exhibit no preferred orientation, however, good hard magnetic properties were produced from as-deposited condition : $4{\pi}M_s$=7 kG, $4{\pi}M_r$=4 kG, and $H_c$=300~1000 Oe. The depositon rate was not greatly influenced by changing the substrate temperature, but it increases linearly by increasing the beam energy density. The beam energy density of 3 J/$\textrm{cm}^2$ gave the optimal condition to have the highest $4{\pi}M_r$ and $H_c$ as well. The higher content of Nd induces a higher coercivity and $4{\pi}M_r$ at the same time without prominent change in $4{\pi}M_s$.

Two methods of feed preference trials were compared to evaluate the acceptability of 5 fresh foliages: Leucaena leucocephala, Moringa oleifera, Portulaca oleracea, Guazuma ulmifolia, and Brosimum alicastrum that was included as control. The evaluation included chemical analyses and forage intake by rabbits. The first method was a cafeteria trial; 12 California growing rabbits aged 8 wk, allocated in individual cages, were offered the five forage plants at the same time inside the cage, while in the second trial 60 California growing rabbits aged 8 wk, allocated individually, were randomly distributed into 5 experimental groups (n = 12/group); for each group just one forage species was offered at a time. The testing period for each method lasted for 7 d, preceded by one week of adaptation. The results showed that B. alicastrum and L. lecocephala were the most preferred forages while on the contrary G. ulmifolia was the least preferred one by rabbits. The results also revealed that the CV% value for the 2nd method (16.32%), which the tested forages were presented separately to rabbits, was lower and methodologically more acceptable than such value for the $1^{st}$ method (34.28%), which all forages were presented together at the same time. It can be concluded that a range of tropical forages were consumed in acceptable quantities by rabbits, suggesting that diets based on such forages with a concentrate supplement could be used successfully for rabbit production. However, growth performance studies are still needed before recommendations could be made on appropriate ration formulations for commercial use.
A simple and highly sensitive chemiluminescence method to determine norfloxacin (NFLX) has been proposed by measuring the chemiluminescence (CL) intensities using a flow injection (FI) system. The CL intensity of the luminol-$H_2O_2$ system is strongly enhanced by the addition of Cu (II) in alkaline condition. The CL intensity is substantially increased after the injection of NFLX into the luminol-$H_2O_2$-Cu (II) system. The enhancement effect is attributed to a catalytic effect of Cu (II) due to the interaction with NFLX which forms a complex with the catalyst. Under the optimal conditions, the sensitizing effect of the CL intensity is proportional to the concentration of NFLX in the range of $1.5{\times}10^{-9}-5.9{\times}10^{-7}molL^{-1}$ (r = 0.9994) with a detection limit ($3{\sigma}$) of $2.98{\times}10^{-10}molL^{-1}$. The proposed method had good reproducibility with the relative standard deviation (RSD, n = 5) of 1.6% for $1{\times}10^{-7}molL^{-1}$ of NFLX. The possible reaction mechanism of the CL reaction is also discussed. This method has been successfully applied for the determination of trace amount of NFLX in pharmaceutical preparations and serum samples.

This study was conducted to develop an HPLC method for determining vitamin B$_{12}$ in fortified foods which has typically been determined by microbiological assays according to AOAC and Korean Food Code approved methods. Vitamin B$_{12}$ (cyanocobalamin) was determined by reversed-phase HPLC with a triple column and UV/VIS dectector (550 nm) using the column switching technique after extraction with 5 mM potassium phosphate solution by sonication without a clean-up procedure. The recovery of spiked samples and limit of detection (LOD) by HPLC were 78.6 ∼107.5 % and 2 ppb ($\mu\textrm{g}$/kg), respectively. The LOD of the microbiological assay (MBA) was much lower than that of HPLC. The concentrations of vitamin B$_{12}$ analyzed in all tested samples (n=12) confirmed compliance with declared label claims. The range of recovery ratio by the HPLC method when compared to the microbiological assay was 76.2 ∼140.0 %. There was not significant difference between the HPLC and MBA methods (p < 0.01) with r=0.9791 and linear regression y=0.9923x-0.04. The HPLC method for determining vitamin B$_{12}$ using the column-switching technique appears to be suitable for determining vitamin B$_{12}$ concentrations above 1 $\mu\textrm{g}$/100 g in fortified foods.ied foods.

Objective: Lignin plays a relevant role in the inhibition of cell wall (CW) structural carbohydrate degradation. Thus, obtaining accurate estimates of the lignin content in tropical plants is important in order to properly characterize the mechanism of lignin action on CW degradation. Comparing conflicting results between the different methods available for commercial use will bring insight on the subject. This way, providing data to better understand the relationship between lignin concentration and implications with tropical forage degradation. Methods: Five grass species, Brachiaria brizantha cv $Marand{\acute{u}}$, Brachiaria brizantha cv $Xara{\acute{e}}s$(MG-5), Panicum maximum cv Mombaça, Pennisetum purpureum cv Cameroon, and Pennisetum purpureum cv Napier, were harvested at five maturity stages. Acid detergent lignin (ADL), Klason lignin (KL), acetyl bromide lignin (ABL), and permanganate lignin (PerL) were measured on all species. Lignin concentration was correlated with in vitro degradability. Results: Highly significant effects for maturity, lignin method and their interaction on lignin content were observed. The ADL, KL and ABL methods had similar negative correlations with degradability. The PerL method failed to reliably estimate the degradability of tropical grasses, possibly due to interference of other substances potentially soluble in the $KMnO_4$ solution. Conclusion: ADL and KL methods use strong acid ($H_2SO_4$) and require determination of ash and N content in the lignin residues, therefore, increasing time and cost of analysis. The ABL method has no need for such corrections and is a fast and a convenient method for determination of total lignin content in plants, thus, it may be a good option for routine laboratory analysis.
The main goal of this paper is to study vibration of damaged core laminated sectorial plates with Functionally graded (FG) face sheets based on three-dimensional theory of elasticity. The structures are made of a damaged isotropic core and two external face sheets. These skins are strengthened at the nanoscale level by randomly oriented Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and are reinforced at the microscale stage by oriented straight fibers. These reinforcing phases are included in a polymer matrix and a three-phase approach based on the Eshelby-Mori-Tanaka scheme and on the Halpin-Tsai approach, which is developed to compute the overall mechanical properties of the composite material. Three complicated equations of motion for the sectorial plates under consideration are semi-analytically solved by using 2-D differential quadrature method. Using the 2-D differential quadrature method in the r- and z-directions, allows one to deal with sandwich annular sector plate with arbitrary thickness distribution of material properties and also to implement the effects of different boundary conditions of the structure efficiently and in an exact manner. The fast rate of convergence and accuracy of the method are investigated through the different solved examples. The sandwich annular sector plate is assumed to be simply supported in the radial edges while any arbitrary boundary conditions are applied to the other two circular edges including simply supported, clamped and free. Several parametric analyses are carried out to investigate the mechanical behavior of these multi-layered structures depending on the damage features, through-the-thickness distribution and boundary conditions.

This study was conducted to develop an HPLC method for determining pantothenic acid in fortified foods which has typically been determined by microbiological assay (MBA) according to AOAC and Korean Food Code approved methods. Pantothenic acid was determined by reversed-phase ion-pair HPLC using UV absorption (200 nm) after extraction with 20 mM potassium phosphate solution by sonication. The recovery of spiked samples and detection limit (LOD) by HPLC were 83.5∼109.6% and 0.5 ppm (mg/kg), respectively. The LOD of the microbiological assay (MBA) was much lower than that of HPLC. The concentrations of pantothenic acid analyzed in all tested samples (n=13) confirmed compliance with declared label claims. The range of recovery ratio by the HPLC method when compared to the microbiological assay was 91.9∼117.6%. There was not significant difference (p<0.01) between the HPLC and MBA methods and the equation of the regression curve was y=1.1428x-0.2269 (r=0.9842). This proposed HPLC method for determining pantothenic acid appears to be suitable for determining pantothenic acid concentrations above 0.25 mg/100 g in fortified foods.
The aim of this study was to evaluate and establish of emission test method for liquid phase building materials such as paint, adhesive, sealant by emission cell. A small-scale emission chamber and emission cell were used to evaluate emission of TVOC from paint, adhesive, sealant. The quantity of TVOC emission were measured by a gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Background concentration of TVOC was below $10{\mu}g/m^3$ in the emission chamber and cell. Air tightness and recovery in chamber and cell showed good results. The recovery of thermal desorber for toluene and n-dodecane were about 120%. The repeatability of response factor and retention time in GC/MS below 30%. The method detection limit of VOCs ranged 0.04~8.82 ng. The concentration of TVOC emission using emission cell was 1.35~1.41 times higher than emission chamber. The correlation of TVOC emission using chamber and cell method was significantly high (r=0.91~0.97).
In general after the etching process, waste etching solution contains metals. (ex. Nickel (Ni), Chromium (Cr), Zinc (Zn), etc.) In this work, we proposed a recycling process for waste etching solution and refining from waste liquid contained nickel to make nickel metal nano powder. At first, the neutralization agent was experimentally selected through the hydrolysis of impurities such as iron by adjusting the pH. We selected sodium hydroxide solution as a neutralizing agent, and removed impurities such as iron by pH = 4. And then, metal ions (ex. Manganese (Mn) and Zinc (Zn), etc.) remain as impurities were refined by D2EHPA (Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid). The nickel powders were synthesized by liquid phase reduction method with hydrazine ($N_2H_4$) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH). The resulting nickel chloride solution and nickel metal powder has high purity ( > 99%). The purity of nickel chloride solution and nickel nano powders were measured by EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic) titration method with ICP-OES (inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer). FE-SEM (field emission scanning electron microscopy) was used to investigate the morphology, particle size and crystal structure of the nickel metal nano powder. The structural properties of the nickel nano powder were characterized by XRD (X-ray diffraction) and TEM (transmission electron microscopy).
