  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a preference music therapy on anxiety and pain of cystoscopy. Methods: This study was performed using the quasi-experimental study design with non-equivalent control group pre-test and post-test. Total of 76 adult clients admitted to a tertiary hospital located in Daegu, South Korea were selected by convenience sampling 19 in the control and 57 in the experimental group. The data were analyzed by $x^2$, t-test, paired t-test, and repeated measures ANOVA using SPSS 17.0. Results: Implementing a preference music therapy was found to be effective in reducing anxiety level before cystoscopy in the present study. However, there were no significant effects of this preference music therapy in reducing pain and anxiety during cystoscopy. In addition, there were no significant effects of a preference music therapy on the patients' satisfaction of the anxiety, discomfort, and pain relieving. Conclusion: The findings support that implementing a preference music therapy may reduce anxiety before the cyctoscopy procedure. Therefore, it can be suggested that a preference music therapy needs to be consider-ed as a regular nursing intervention to reduce patient anxiety level before cystoscopy.

  • Recently, most people use android based smartphones and we can find music players in any smartphones. However, it's hard to find a personalized music player which applies user's preference. In this paper, we propose an emotion-based music player, which analyses and classifies the music with user's emotion, recommends the music, applies the user's preference, and visualizes the music by color. Through the proposed music player, user could be able to select musics easily and use an optimized application.

  • Purpose: By studying the effects of SNS advertising characteristics and SNS advertising music characteristics conducted by companies on advertising preference and advertising effects, we would like to suggest a plan for effective SNS advertising operation. Research design, data and methodology: In this study, a total of 483 surveys were collected for college student consumers in their 20s who had experience seeing advertisements on SNS, and 458 were used for the final analysis. In addition, the collected questionnaire data were analyzed using statistical programs SPSS 24.0 and AMOS 24.0, and Sobel Test was performed through structural equation modeling and regression analysis. Results: Advertising preference, purchase, and recommendation intentions increased as consumers who saw advertisements on SNS perceived the characteristics of advertisements (information, entertainment, individuality, and interactivity). However, advertising preference was not formed by SNS advertising music characteristics (fun, information delivery, unconscious stimulation, and emotional homogeneity). In addition, the higher the perception of SNS advertising music characteristics (fun, information delivery, unconscious stimulation, and emotional homogeneity), the more advertising effects such as purchase and recommendation intentions were linked, and the higher the perception of SNS advertising music characteristics (fun, information delivery, unconscious stimulation, and emotional homogeneity), the more advertising effects such as purchase and recommendation intentions could be created. Finally, it was confirmed that advertising preference had a partial mediating effect between SNS advertising characteristics and advertising effects, and between SNS advertising music characteristics and advertising effects. Conclusions: Unlike previous studies that have investigated the causal relationship of advertising effects according to sub-factors such as SNS advertising characteristics and SNS advertising music characteristics, it is significant in that it analyzes the variables used in the study as secondary factors.

  • The main objectives of this study were to empirically examine the relationship between the preference of fashion styles of male college students and their individual taste in other areas including music styles and recreation types. Life style and values were also examined for their relationship with the fashion style preferences. Survey questionnaires were distributed to male college students in Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi-do during May and June of 2011, and a total of 256 responses were used in the final analysis. The results showed that there were three segments according to the fashion styles - 'modern-dandy', 'resistance style', 'no-individuality' groups - and there were significant differences between groups in terms of their preferred music styles and choice of recreational activities. Modern-dandy group preferred R&B, dance music and ballad, while resistance style group preferred hiphop, dance and reggae music. No-individuality group did not show any preference for a particular type of music. Both modern-dandy and resistance style groups liked sports, while resistance style group showed the lowest preference for hobby and culture. • This study proposed the design development of performance uniform for Korean classical music. To do this, we considered the state of the performance uniform of the Korean Classical Music Band through photographic data. The research targeted the performers in Korean Classical Music Band, and conducted a survey for the preference of type, pattern, decoration, color and fabric materials. Based on the results, we extracted the design of performance uniform, which is suitable for the environment of Korean classical music performance and meets the substantial requirements of performers. The performance uniform that the current national or public Korean classical music bands are using, has two types: Western clothing and Hanbok. The attire is influenced by the genre of the music that they are playing because one of its main functions is to deliver the music to audience effectively. In addition, there are some differences in the uniform based on the gender, but no division in the design of clothing according to music instruments. However, the result of the survey show that there was no difference in preference by gender, but there was some difference according to the division of music instruments. On this study, we reflected this result in the design, and proposed the design of an convenient outer garment for everyone to wear in the music performance band.

  • Purpose: Music intervention has long been used in research of patients undergoing surgical operation in reducing anxiety level and improve surgical outcome. However, there are few studies that have considered a patient's music preference. We investigated the effect of the tailored music intervention which chose music according to the patient's preference on anxiety level and vital signs. Method: The subjects were 50 patients who received regional anesthesia for surgical operation at D hospital in Pohang city from April, 2006 to November, 2006. All of the subjects were randomly assigned either music group (30 subjects) or non-music group (20 subjects). As the patients arrived in the operating room, vital signs were monitored until the subjects were transferred to the recovery room, while Spielberger's STAI-KYZ questionnaires were applied twice to measure preoperative and intra-operative anxiety. The data were analyzed by 2-test, t-test, one-way ANCOVA and repeated measures ANOVA using SPSS 12.0/PC+. Results: There were no significant differences between the two groups on vital signs. All of the vital signs increased when the subjects arrived in the operating room, but decreased quickly once the operation began, regardless of the groups. However, the music group reported significantly less intra-operative anxiety, compared to the non-music group (F=15.208, p<.000), when preoperative anxiety was treated as a covariance. Conclusion: The findings support that the use of music which was chosen by patients during the surgery significantly reduced patient's intra-operative anxiety during regional anesthesia.

  • This paper proposes a music recommendation system for a driver in vehicle. The proposed system provides (selects and plays) a music to a driver in vehicle in real-time manner by inferring his preference based on physical, environmental, and personal information. Pulse data as physical information, age and biorhythm as personal information, and time as environmental information are used to infer a driver's and thus recommend a music. Experimental results showed that the proposed system could provide better satisfaction to a driver on the recommended music compared to the conventional approach.
