A Sciarid fly, Lycoriella mali was a serious pest in commercial production of the cultivated mushroom, Pleurotus ostreatus. It was found in light trap and compost samples taken from mushroom houses during all growing seasons. The fly population 'was increased with the development of mushroom growth, the larvae occurred about 30 days after spawn inoculation in compost. The highest population was developed spring cultivation season (March to June) and decreased during summer season (August to September). The larvae feed on mycellium and compost; injury to the growing mushroom mycellium and the subsequent consumption of the primordia; they entered and tunneld sporospore stem and infect pinhead formation which would be resulted in decrease of mushroom yield.
The potential ability of Button mushroom compost (BMC) to solubilize heavy metals was estimated with metal contaminated soils collected from abandoned mines of Boryeong area in South Korea. The bacterial strains in BMC were isolated for investigating the mobilization of metals in soil or plant by the strains and identified according to 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis. When metal solubilization potential of BMC was assessed in a batch experiment, the BMC was found to be capable of solubilizing metals in the presence of metals (Co, Pb and Zn) and the results showed that inoculation of BMC could increase the concentrations of water soluble Co, Pb and Cd by 35, 25 and 45% respectively, than those of non-inoculated soils. BMC-assisted growth promotion and metal uptake in sunflower (Helianthus annuus) was also evaluated in a pot experiment. In comparison with non-inoculated seedlings, the inoculation led to increase the growth of H. annuus by 27, 25 and 28% respectively in Co, Pb and Zn contaminated soils. Moreover, enhanced accumulation of Co, Pb and Zn in the shoot and root systems was observed in inoculated plants, where metal translocation from root to the above-ground tissues was also found to be enhanced by the BMC. The apparent results suggested that the BMC could effectively be employed in enhancing phytoextraction of Co, Pb and Zn from contaminated soils.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of application of spent mushroom compost(SMC) on soil chemical properties and tomato growth. After the mushroom has been harvested, the SMC contains a lot of organic material, different microorganism and high density of mushroom hypha. SMC of white button mushroom(Agaricus bisporus) contained diverse microorganisms including fluorescent Pseudomonas sp. and actinomycetes. These isolates showed strong antagonistic to bacterial wi1t(Ralstonia solanacearum) and fusarium wi1t(Fusarium oxysporum) of tomato. The growth and sugar content of tomato showed no significant difference with other treatments by stage of maturity. The EC, exchangeable K and Ca contents of the soil during growing stage were increased in comparison to those of farmhouse practice, but available phosphate decreased. Microbial population in the soil in all growing stages showed no significant difference with other treatments, but yield of tomato decreased in some way in comparison to farmhouse practice. As the result of analysis on chemical property of soil and plant growth and yield of tomato, it seems likely that SMC of white button mushroom(Agaricus bisporus) may be used as substitute of practice compost on cultivation of tomato.
This study was carried out to analyze of the cause of button mushroom production decrease of Gyoengbuk province. In 1978, Agaricus bisporus was produced 48,000 ton and exported more than $50 millions. But since 2000, Domestic production of button mushroom was decreased by 70%, and button mushroom farm was also decreased by 37%. Cultivation area was increased by 6%, but Gyeongbuk Province was decreased by 30%. Especially, Production per $3.3{\ss}{\breve{S}}$ was dramatically decreased more than half. There were several causes such as rising labor and material cost, climate changes, and aging of mushroom cultivation farmers. And there was no effort to develop of domestic button mushroom cultivation equipments. One of the main reasons for this reduction was supplied to low quality of button mushroom compost to the farm.
This experiment were conducted to select cheaper and more favorable compost among several kinds of composts which were produced by companies, farmers etc. instead of Yakto. Yakto was similar to Standard Yakto in the content of inorganic salts, but PL and HJ composts contained more P$_2$O$\_$5/, K$_2$O, CaO and MgO content compared with Standard Yakto and EC in Yakto was also higher than Standard Yakto did, but the phosphorus, magnesium content and EC of Mushroom compost was higher than that of Standard Yakto. On the other hands, Rice straw compost contained higher contents of phosphorus, potassium and magnesium than Yakto did. Germination rate and early growth of lettuce and C/N ratio were tested for checking decomposed degree. The compost of HJ, Mushroom and Rice straw revealed higher C/N ratio, lower germination rate and shorter shoot length than Yakto showed. It was guessed that these composts were not decomposed enough. Emergence and survival rate of ginseng seeds in Yakto were the highest, but its germination in the composts of Mushroom, PL, HJ and Rice straw, in order, was decreased, and its survival rate in the composts of PL, Mushroom, HJ and Rice straw, in order, was decreased. It was concluded that fully decomposed manure should be used and it needs to Investigate perfect decomposed composts of PL and Mushroom instead of Yakto.
This study was conducted to select organic materials (OM) and nitrogen sources in composting of waste mushroom bed from Agaricus bisporus. We examined physio-chemical properties of the organic materials and the mixture ratio for preparing the wasted mushroom bed (M) compost. The carbon content of sawdust was higher than those of rice straw (R) as OM source and the nitrogen content was high in the order of fowl manure (F)>> pig manure (P)> cow manure (C). The compost was prepared to maintain the criteria of above 25% organic matter and then the change of their ingredients was estimated during the process of fermentation. The temperature of waste mushroom bed+pig manure+rice straw (MRP) treatment was varied fast throughout fermentation, on the other hand the temperature of waste mushroom bed+pig manure+sawdust (MSP) treatment was steadily elevated to the middle of composting. The pH of the compost was somewhat high to pH 8.5~9.0 at the early stage, but decreased to 7.5 at the end stage of composting. The content of OM after fermentation was decreased to the level of 19~21% in rice straw, but the sawdust treatment maintained 25~27% organic matter. The waste mushroom bed+fowl manure+rice straw (MRF) treatment, which contains 26.2% organic matter and 0.68% nitrogen, was the highest among them. The volume of compost was reduced to 50% by using rice straw as organic matter, but reduced to 30% by using the sawdust. The contents of heavy metal in the compost were suitable within the legal criteria. The number of microorganisms were higher in the rice straw than those in the sawdust. It was high in the order of fowl manure> pig manure> cow manure. The major groups consisted of aerobic bacteria, gram negative bacteria and Bacillus sp. and their populations after fermentation were increased to $1{\times}10^1{\sim}1{\times}10^2\;cfu\;g^{-1}$ rather than those before fermentation. Therefore we concluded that the waste mushroom bed+fowl manure+sawdust (MSF 3:9:1 v/v/v) treatment was suitable combination for high organic matter and nitrogen source, and the periods of composting were 50~60 days.
The lignocellulytic enzymes including a-amylase (EC 3.2.1.1), lignin peroxidase (EC 1.11.1.14), laccase (EC 1.10.3.2), xylanase (EC 3.2.1.8), ${\beta}$-xylosidase (EC 3.2.1.37), ${\beta}$-glucosidase (EC 3.2.1.21) and cellulase (EC 3.2.1.4) were extracted from spent mushroom compost (SMC) of Pleurotus eryngii. Different extraction buffers and conditions were tested for optimal recovery of the enzymes. The optimum extraction was shaking incubation (200 rpm) for 2 h at $4^{\circ}C$. ${\alpha}$-Amylase was extracted with the productivity range from 1.20 to 1.6 Unit/SMC g. Cellulase was recovered with the productivity range from 2.10 to 2.80 U/gf. ${\beta}$-glucosidase and ${\beta}$-xylosidase productivities showed lowest recovery producing 0.1 U/g and 0.02 U/g, respectively. The P. eryngii SMCs collected from three different mushroom farms showed different recovery on laccase and xylanse, cellulase. Furthermore, the water extracted SMC was compared to commercial enzymes for its industrial application in decolorization and cellulase activity.

The windrow turner, widely used for outdoor fermentation of mushrooms in Europe, has been improved by using rice straw instead of wheat straw in accordance with Korea's actual situation. It was compared with conventional excavator work, and the results were as follows. Agitation performance was $81m^3/hr$, which was 2.8 times higher than $28.6m^3/hr$ of excavator. As a result of the temperature distribution in the pile at the end of the fermentation stage, it was found that the temperature at the lower part of the pile was $5^{\circ}C$ higher than that of conventional pile. This was more favorable for aerobic fermentation. Meanwhile, ash ratio of prototype ($30.9{\pm}1.1%$) was higher than that of control $28.4{\pm}1.6%$. In the case of prototype turner agitation, the yield of mushroom cultivation was $880kg/66m^2$, that was 22.9% higher than the conventional control yield of $716kg/66m^2$.

Currently, the spawn of the mushroom Agarcus bisporus is produced by a method developed in the 1980s, and anew spawning method needs to be developed to improve the quality of the spawn. In this study, the condition for a maximum mycelium weight(5.92±0.52 g/L) was shaking culture (24 hours/day) at 24℃ and 120 rpm in CDB (compost dextrose broth). Based on this, the ventilated liquid culture method (2.5 L/min) was cultured for 10 days. This method was appropriate, andwhen the inoculum was cultured at 50 g/mL for about 10 days, it was cultured well without agglomeration and shaking of seed.
