In order to have better understanding of the concept and meaning of soundscape, it is very important to consider entirely the objectives, activities, historical development processes and accomplishments of world soundscape project leading by R. Murray Schafer. Therefore, the ultimate purpose of this study is to inquire into the concrete development processes and practical activities of the soundscape in order to correspond to Schafer's conception of a tuning of the world. The establishment of WSP is based on noise pollution, listening attitudes and noisy music. Schafer formulated 5 types of item as a target, and wrote down concrete activities to achieve the goals. Especially, he devised the conceptual, educational, political and social strategies as the practical strategies of WSP. It is obtained various products by the activities of WSP from the planning starting year in 1969 to the stagnation period in 1979. That is, there are the social survey on noise-vancouver 1969, the book of noise, Okeanos, a study of community noise by-laws in canada 1972, the music of the environment, the vancouver soundscape, european sound diary, five village soundscapes, handbook for acoustic ecology and so on. The research activities of WSP arouse inspiration in many people interested in sound. Specially, it is emphasized the importance of increasing for their social roles in order to more actively improve and create the quality of sound environment. Also, it shows us the directions on how to lead our furture sound.

Today, interest in soundscape idea is growing according to recognize the surrounding sounds as design target and to introduce them into environmental spaces positively. The word "soundscape" proposed by Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer is now very popular in the world. So various soundscape designs based on soundscape idea are carried on worldwide for acoustic ecology. Also in Korea, several researchers are carrying on studies about the soundscape, but basic concepts behind soundscape design are insufficiently defined and studied. In that sense, this study aims to review and to arrange the concept of soundscape Idea and soundscape desgn systematically. Through investigation of literature concerning soundscape study, the backgrounds and characteristics about soundscape idea were reviewed and concepts of soundscape design were arranged.

본 연구는 머레이 쉐이퍼(Murray Schafer)의 사운드스케이프(Soundscape) 개념을 통해 소리의 구분, 지각, 요소의 이해를 바탕으로 일상생활 속의 소음과 비음악적인 소리를 활용한 무용작품 의 창작과정과 이에 대한 음악적인 효과 및 새로운 안무 유형의 가치를 탐구하는 것을 연구의 목적으로 두었다. 실기기반연구(Practice-based Research)의 방법론적 연구에 따라 실기, 이론, 평가의 단계를 몸적 자료(Somatic Data)로 축적하였으며, 『공간디자인과 조형연습』(2003)의 일부분을 기반으로 형상화 방법, 움직임 형식, 공간화 방식으로 제시하여 분석의 근거를 마련하였다. 그 결과 창작과정에서 사운드스케이프, 즉 일상생활 속의 소리에 대한 음악적 효과 및 새로운 움직임 창작방법을 발견해낼 수 있었으며, 소리 역시 작품의 전반적인 분위기, 움직임의 의미, 작품의 주제를 효과적으로 전달할 수 있는 가능성을 탐구하였다. 아울러 사운드 스케이프라는 개념을 바탕으로 연구되어 나타난 소리에 대한 잠재적 가능성은 무용작품의 또 다른 창작환경을 만들어갈 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.

Also in Korea, several soundscape design were made for the public spaces such as river, park and bridge but, basic concept behind soundscape design was not reflected and studied sufficiently. In that sense, this study aims to arrange the concept of soundscape design process and to review the design proposals of Gwangju River. In this process, the reproduction concept of soundscape, natural sound, light with sound, cultural and historical sound and etc. were classified and the final design was proposed to recover the natural environment and harmonize the sound with surroundings as creative soundscape.

본 연구의 목적은 대전 원도심의 랜드마크이자 명소인 중구 대흥동 성당과 은행동 성심당 두 장소의 종소리가 지닌 사운드스케이프의 성격과 의미를 조명하는 것이다. 연구는 현장 답사 및 녹취, 관련 자료와 사운드스케이프 이론 등의 문헌연구에 의해 이루어졌다. 대전시는 20세기 초 일제강점기에 철도 대전역과 함께 생성된 도시로, 충남도청이 대전으로 이전하면서 대전역 인근에 위치한 중구 대흥동과 은행동 일대는 크게 발달하며 원도심을 형성하였다. 90년대에 서구로 주요 행정기관이 대거 이전하면서 대전 원도심은 쇠락의 길을 걷게 되었고 세종시 개발로 쇠락은 가속화되었다. 그런 가운데, 대흥동 성당과 한국전쟁 당시 한 피난민에 의해 설립된 성심당은 원주민들이 떠나간 대전 원도심을 굳건히 지키고 있다. 대흥동 성당은 일제 강점기에 설립되어 2019년 들어 100년의 역사를 지니게 된 지역 랜드마크로, 일제 강점기에 탄생한 대전시와 역사를 같이 하는 역사문화자산이다. 한국전쟁을 배경으로 탄생한 성심당 또한 설립 60년의 역사를 지닌 역사문화자산이자 대전 명소 1위로 선정된 지역 랜드마크이다. 인근 주택가에까지 들려오는 대흥동 성당의 종소리에서 출발한 이 탐구는, 대로 건너에 위치한 은행동 성심당의 종소리를 발견하기에 이르렀다. 본 고는 대흥동 성당과 은행동 성심당의 종소리가 시그널 사운드(signal sound)를 넘어 사운드마크(soundmark)의 성격을 지님을 머레이의 사운드스케이프 소리 범주를 통해 파악하였다. 나아가 비교적 최근의 EU 사운드스케이프 정의에 따라 두 종소리의 의미 분석을 시도했다. 두 종소리는 표층적 차원에서는 시그널사운드이지만 심층적 차원에서는 대전 원도심의 사운드마크이다. 외형적으로는 규모나 스케일, 빈도, 유명도에서 차이가 있으나, 두 종소리는 특별한 인연의 역사성과 장소성, 로컬리티와 선한 영향력 등에서 의미를 공유한다. 본 연구의 시사점은 대전 중구 원도심 도시 재생 혹은 도시 개발에서 두 장소가 시각적 랜드마크 뿐만 아니라 사운드마크로서도 지역 역사문화자산임을 밝힌 데 있다.
