For recent years, there has been significant research achievement on the feature-based multiresolution modeling technique along with widely application of three-dimensional feature-based CAD system in the areas of design, analysis, and manufacturing. The research has focused on several topics: topological frameworks for representing multiresolution solid model, criteria for the LOD, generation of valid models after rearrangement of features, and applications. This paper surveys the relevant research on these topics and suggests the future work for dissemination of this technology.
In this paper, data-driven modeling and multiresolution analysis (MRA) are applied for a full-scale wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). The proposed method is based on modeling by partial least squares (PLS) and multiscale monitoring by a generic dissimilarity measure (GDM), which is suitable for nonstationary and non-normal process monitoring such as a biological process. Case study in an industrial plant showed that the PLS model could give good modeling performance and analyze the dynamics of a complex plant and MRA was useful to detect and isolate various faults due to its multiscale nature. The proposed method enables us to show the underlying phenomena as well as to filter out unwanted and disturbing phenomena.
This paper proposes a sinusoidal modeling of polyphonic audio signals. Sinusoidal modeling which has been applied well to speech and monophonic signals cannot be applied directly to polyphonic signals because a window size for sinusoidal analysis cannot be determined over the entire signal. In addition, for high quality synthesized signal transient parts like attacks should be preserved which determines timbre of musical instrument. In this paper, a multiresolution filter bank is designed which splits the input signal into six octave-spaced subbands without aliasing and sinusoidal modeling is applied to each subband signal. To alleviate smearing of transients in sinusoidal modeling a dynamic segmentation method is applied to subbands which determines the analysis-synthesis frame size adaptively to fit time-frequency characteristics of the subband signal. The improved dynamic segmentation is proposed which shows better performance about transients and reduced computation. For various polyphonic audio signals the result of simulation shows the suggested sinusoidal modeling can model polyphonic audio signals without loss of perceptual quality.
This paper presents a more stable method of multiresolution editing for a triangular mesh. The basic idea of our paper is to embed an editing area of a mesh onto a 2D region and to produce 3D surfaces which interpolate the editing-information. In this paper, we adopt the extended convex combination approach based on the shape-preserving parameterization for the embedding, which guarantees no self-intersection on the 2D embedded mesh. That is, the result of the embedding is stable. Moreover, we adopt the multi-level B-spline approach to generate the surface containing all of 3D editing-information, which can make us control the editing area in several levels. Hence, this method supports interactive editing and thus can produce intuitive editing results.
This paper presents perceptual model with a stochastic rnultiresolution characteristic that can be applied with watermark embedding in the biorthogonal wavelet domain. The perceptual model with adaptive watermarking algorithm embed at the texture and edge region for more strongly embedded watermark by the SSQ(successive subband quantization). The watermark embedding is based on the computation of a NVF(noise visibility function) that have local image properties. This method uses non-stationary Gaussian model stationary Generalized Gaussian model because watermark has noise properties. In order to determine the optimal NVF, we consider the watermark as noise. The particularities of embedding in the stationary GG model use shape parameter and variance of each subband regions in multiresolution. To estimate the shape parameter, we use a moment matching method. Non-stationary Gaussian model use the local mean and variance of each subband. The experiment results of simulation were found to be excellent invisibility and robustness. Experiments of such distortion are executed by Stirmark benchmark test.
Remote sensing technique has offered better understanding of our environment for the decades by providing useful level of information on the landcover. In many applications using the remotely sensed data, digital image processing methodology has been usefully employed to characterize the features in the data and develop the models. Random field models, especially Markov Random Field (MRF) models exploiting spatial relationships, are successfully utilized in many problems such as texture modeling, region labeling and so on. Usually, remotely sensed imagery are very large in nature and the data increase greatly in the problem requiring temporal data over time period. The time required to process increasing larger images is not linear. In this study, the methodology to reduce the computational cost is investigated in the utilization of the Markov Random Field. For this, multiresolution framework is explored which provides convenient and efficient structures for the transition between the local and global features. The computational requirements for parameter estimation of the MRF model also become excessive as image size increases. A Bayesian approach is investigated as an alternative estimation method to reduce the computational burden in estimation of the parameters of large images.

This paper describes a multiresidual approximation method for scattered volumetric data modeling. The approximation method employs a volumetric NURBS or VNURBS as a data interpolating function and proposes two multiresidual methods as a data modeling algorithm. One is called as the residual series method that constructs a sequence of VNURBS functions and their algebraic summation produces the desired approximation. The other is the residual merging method that merges all the VNURBS functions mentioned above into one equivalent function. The first one is designed to construct wavelet-type multiresolution models and also to achieve more accurate approximation. And the second is focused on its improvement of computational performance with the save fitting accuracy for more practical applications. The performance results of numerical examples demonstrate the usefulness of VNURBS approximation and the effectiveness of multiresidual methods. In addition, several graphical examples suggest that the VNURBS approximation is applicable to various applications such as surface modeling and fitting problems.

This study proposes a method to develop an authoring system(GeoMaTree) for diverse trees that constitute a virtual landscape. The GeoMaTree system enables the simple, intuitive production of an efficient structure, and supports real-time processing. The core of the proposed system is a procedural modeling based on a mathematical model and an application that supports digital content creation on diverse platforms. The procedural modeling allows users to control the complex pattern of branch propagation through an intuitive process. The application is a multi-resolution 3D model that supports appropriate optimization for a tree structure. The application and a compatible function, with commercial tools for supporting the creation of realistic synthetic images and virtual landscapes, are implemented, and the proposed system is applied to a variety of 3D image content.

This paper proposes a method of time-scale modification of polyphonic audio signals based on a sinusoidal model. The signals are modeled with sinusoidal component and noise component. A multiresolution filter bank is designed which splits the input signal into six octave-spaced subbands without aliasing and sinusoidal modeling is applied to each subband signal. To alleviate smearing of transients in time-scale modification a dynamic segmentation method is applied to subbands which determines the analysis-synthesis frame size adaptively to fit time-frequency characteristics of the subband signal. For extracting sinusoidal components and calculating their parameters matching pursuit algorithm is applied to each analysis frame of subband signal. In accordance with spectrum analysis a psychoacoustic model implementing the effect of frequency masking is incorporated with matching pursuit to provide a resonable stop condition of iteration and reduce the number of sinusoids. The noise component obtained by subtracting the synthesized signal with sinusoidal components from the original signal is modeled by line-segment model of short time spectrum envelope. For various polyphonic audio signals the result of simulation shows suggested sinusoidal modeling can synthesize original signal without loss of perceptual quality and do more robust and high quality time-scale modification for large scale factor because of representing transients without any perceptual loss.
