Modified Wilkinson Power Divider for Multiple Harmonics Suppression

  • A new structure of the Wilkinson power divider that can suppress multiple harmonics output is presented The power divider consists of T-type or $\pi$-type capacitive loads and shunt resistors. Experimental results show that this power divider suppresses the second and the third harmonic components to less than -38dB, while maintaining the characteristics of a conventional Wilkinson power divider, featuring an equal power split, a simultaneous impedance matching at all ports and a good isolation between output ports.

  • Make-to-order manufacturers with multiple plants at multiple sites need to have the ability to quickly determine which plant will produce which customer order to meet the due date and minimize the transportation cost from the plants to the customer. Balancing the work loads and minimizing setups and make-span are also of great concern. Solving such scheduling problems usually takes a long time. We propose a new approach, which we call 'preprocessing', for resolving such complex problems. In preprocessing scheme, a 'good' a priori schedule is prepared and maintained using unconfirmed order information. Upon the confirmation of orders. the preprocessed schedule is quickly modified to obtain the final schedule. We present a preprocessing solution algorithm for multi-site constraint scheduling problem (MSCSP) using genetic algorithm; and conduct computational experiments to evaluate the performance of the algorithm.

  • 본 논문에서는 에너지를 기존의 기법보다 더 효율적으로 관리하기 위해 다중 라우팅 경로 설정 및 중계노드교체 기법을 제안하였다. 제안된 방법은 게임이론중의 하나인 샤플리 밸류 (Shapley Value)를 이용하여 에너지 효율적인 다중 라우팅 경로를 설정하여 데이터를 전송한다. 시뮬레이션 결과 제안된 기법이 기존의 기법보다 전체 무선 네트워크의 성능을 향상시킨 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

Parallel computation for transcendental structural eigenproblems

  • The paper reviews the implementation and evaluation of exact methods for the computation of transcendental structural eigenvalues, i.e., critical buckling loads and natural frequencies of undamped vibration, on multiple instruction, multiple data parallel computers with distributed memory. Coarse, medium and fine grain parallel methods are described with illustrative examples. The methods are compared and combined into hybrid methods whose performance can be predicted from that of the component methods individually. An indication is given of how performance indicators can be presented in a generic form rather than being specific to one particular parallel computer. Current extensions to permit parallel optimum design of structures are outlined.

Experimental identification of multiple faults in rotating machines

  • The aim of this paper is to define the required measurements and processing tools necessary for developing a maintenance approach applied to rotating machines in the presence of multiple faults. The system responses measured were accelerations and transmission errors. Acceleration measurements provide most of the information on bearing conditions, while transmission error measurements provide pertinent information on gear conditions. The measurements were carried out for several operating conditions (loads and speeds). System responses were processed in several analyzing domains (Time, Spectrum, and Cepstrum domains). The approach developed enables the detection and identification of combined faults and it can be applied to other types of rotating machines once the critical elements and their associated faults have been defined.

  • This paper describes an extension or a pair or multiple load flow solutions and nose curve method developed for voltage stability analysis or AC power systems to AC/DC systems. In this approach the converters are regarded as voltage dependent loads. Assuming that the converters at the unstable (-mode) solution consume the same power equal to the power at the stable (+mode) solution, the unstable solutions or the nose curves arc determined. This method is very efficient since estimating voltage collapse point and voltage stability margin arc determined by a few iterations of multiple load flow solutions. Also the method has the advantages that since the structure or Jacobian matrix is same with that of AC load flow, modal analysis or voltage stability is readily applicable if desired.

A Microgrid Operation based on a Power Market Environment

  • A Microgrid is a private small-scale power system composed of distributed energy resources (DERs), storage devices and loads. And it is expected that the Microgrid will come into wide use in the near future. For this, the establishment of the Microgrid operation methodology is a very important problem. Especially, the Microgrid is greatly different from existing private small-scale power systems because of the multiple participants. Therefore, the Microgrid operation considered various requirements according to multiple participants is more complicated than the operation of existing private small-scale power systems. In this paper, Microgrid operation methodology based on a market environment is suggested. Through case studies, the effectiveness of the suggested methodology is verified.

  • We present two techniques based on lookup tables to reduce complexity of the well-known Schnorr-Euchner (SE) sphere decoder (SD) without introducing performance degradation. By the aid of lookup tables, the computational loads caused by the SE enumeration and decision feedback are reduced at the cost of higher storage capacity. Simulation results are provided to verify performance and complexity of the proposed decoders.

  • A simple numerical modelling technique is proposed for estimating the shear stress distribution in beams of framed tube structures with multiple internal tubes. The structures are analysed using a continuum approach in which each tube is individually modelled by a tube beam that accounts for the flexural and shear deformations, as well as the shear lag effects. The method idealises the discrete tubes-in-tube structures as an assemblage of equivalent multiple beams, each composed of orthotropic plate panels. The numerical analysis of shear stress is based on the elastic theory in conjunction with the minimum potential energy principle. By simplifying assumptions regarding the form of strain distributions in external and internal tubes, the shear stress distributions are expressed in terms of a series of linear functions of the second moments of area of the structures and the corresponding geometric and material properties, as well as the applied loads. The simplicity and accuracy of the proposed method are demonstrated through the solutions of three numerical examples.

  • The learning automaton is an automaton to update systematically the strategy for enhancing the performance in response to the output results, and several schemes of learning automata have been presented. In this paper, S-model learning automata are applied in order to achieve the best compromise solution between an optimal solution for economic operation and an optimal solution for stable operation of the power system under the circumstance that the loads vary randomly. It is shown that learning automata are applied satisfactorily to the multiobjective optimization problem for obtaining the best tradeoff among the conflicting economy and stability objectives of power systems.
