In this paper, it is shown how a robot with n passive trailers can be controlled in backward direction. When driving backward direction, a kinematic model of the system is represented highly nonlinear equations. The problem is formulated as a trajectory following problem, rather than control of independent generalized coordinates. Also, the state and input saturation problems are formulated as a trajectory generation problem. The trajectory is traced by a rear hinge point of the last trailer, and reference trajectories include line segments, circular shapes and rectangular turns. Experimental verifications were carried out with the PSR-2(public service robot $2^{nd}$ version) with three passive trailers. Experimental result showed that the backward motion control can be successfully carried out using the proposed control scheme.
The development of IT technology makes the functions and services of robots be integrated, and thus the robots become more intelligent and useful. As sophisticated usage of robots has evolved, direct communication by human language is necessary to increase the efficiency of their usage. In this paper, we propose a conversational interface platform for integrated service robots using MS Robotics Studio. The proposed platform consists of three types of components: a conversation manager to control the flows of the integrated service robots, a user interface to interact with users, and multiple service robots to perform actions or services. For a test-bed of the proposed platform, we build a schedule manager system and confirm the usability through SUS subject test by comparing the schedule manager system with MS Outlook.
Nowadays, various speech processing systems are being introduced in the fields of robotics. However, real-time processing and high performances are required to properly implement speech processing system for the autonomous robots. Achieving these goals requires advanced hardware techniques including intelligent software algorithms. For example, we need nonlinear amplifier boards which are able to adjust the compression radio (CR) via computer programming. And the necessity for noise reduction, double-buffering on EPLD (Erasable programmable logic device), simultaneous multi-channel AD conversion, distant sound localization will be explained in this paper. These ideas can be used to improve distant and omni-directional speech recognition. This speech processing system, based on embedded Linux system, is supposed to be mounted on the new home service robot, which is being developed at KIST (Korea Institute of Science and Technology)

Depth calibration is a procedure for finding the conversion function that maps disparity data from a depth-sensing camera to actual distance information. In this paper, we present an optimal depth calibration method for Kinect$^{TM}$ sensors based on an experimental design and convex optimization. The proposed method, which utilizes multiple measurements from only two points, suggests a simplified calibration procedure. The confidence ellipsoids obtained from a series of simulations confirm that a simpler procedure produces a more reliable calibration function.
Tracking a target of versatile maneuver recently demands a stable adaptation of tracker, and the multiple model techniques are being developed because of its ability to produce useful information of target maneuver. This paper presents the way to apply the multiple model method in a moving-target and moving-platform scenario, and the estimation and prediction results better than those of single Kalman filter.
This paper presents an intelligent autopilot for STT missiles with multiple controllers. The mixed H$_{2}$/H$_{\infty}$ control technique is applied for each controller and implemented by using the genetic searching algorithm. To facilitate automatic switching of multiple controllers under different operating conditions, an error based switching scheme is also combined with the multiple controllers at the higher level, which constitutes a hierarchical intelligent control system. It is shown via computer simulation that the proposed autopilot outperforms the conventional one..
In this paper, we present a procedure to design the robust optimal supervisor which has the minimal cost in the sense of average for a given multiple-modelled discrete event system DES. In order to design the robust optimal supervisor, we extend the optimal supervisor design algorithm for a deterministic DES to the case of multiple-modelled DESs. In addition, using the proposed algorithm with modified costs of events and penalities of states, we can show whether a robust supervisor for a given multiple-modelled DES exists and design the minimally restricted robust supervisor.
In this paper, a learning control problem is formulated for cooperating multiple-robot manipulators with uncertain system parameters. The commonly held object is also assumed to be unknown and the multiple-robots themselfs experience uncertain operating conditions such as link parameters, viscous friction parameters, suctions, actuator bias, and etc. Under these conditions, the learning controllers designed for learning of uncertain parameters and robot control inputs for multiple-robot systems are shown to drive the multiple-robot manipulators to follow the desired Cartesian trajectory with the desired internal forces to the unknown object.
We developed a wireless communication system for multiple instrumentation system. The developed system has a function of remote instrumentation and PLC(Programmable Logic Controller) control. The system consists of CC(Control and Communication) protocol, wireless media access and physical media system. For multiple wireless communication, we propose a hub polling protocol based on master-slave control concept. To show the validity of the developed system, several experiments are illustrated.
Various techniques have been proposed for detection and tracking of targets in order to develop a real-world computer vision system, e.g., visual surveillance systems, intelligent transport systems (ITSs), and so forth. Especially, the idea of distributed vision system is required to realize these techniques in a wide-spread area. In this paper, we develop a ubiquitous vision system for location-awareness of multiple targets. Here, each vision sensor that the system is composed of can perform exact segmentation for a target by color and motion information, and visual tracking for multiple targets in real-time. We construct the ubiquitous vision system as the multiagent system by regarding each vision sensor as the agent (the vision agent). Therefore, we solve matching problem for the identity of a target as handover by protocol-based approach. We propose the identified contract net (ICN) protocol for the approach. The ICN protocol not only is independent of the number of vision agents but also doesn't need calibration between vision agents. Therefore, the ICN protocol raises speed, scalability, and modularity of the system. We adapt the ICN protocol in our ubiquitous vision system that we construct in order to make an experiment. Our ubiquitous vision system shows us reliable results and the ICN protocol is successfully operated through several experiments.
