  • In a nuclear power plant, steam generator tubes cover a major portion of the primary pressure-retaining boundary. Thus very conservative approaches have been taken in the light of steam generator tube integrity According to the present criteria, tubes wall-thinned in excess of 40% should be plugged whatever causes are. However, many analytical and experimental results have shown that no safety problems exist even with thickness reductions greater than 40%. The present criterion was developed about twenty years ago when wear and pitting were dominant causes for steam generator tube degradation. And it is based on tubes with single cracks regardless of the fact that the appearance of multiple cracks is more common in general. The objective of this study is to review the conservatism of the present plugging criteria of steam generator tubes and to propose a new coalescence model for two adjacent through-wall cracks existing in steam generator tubes. Using the existing failure models and experimental results, we reviewed the conservatism of the present plugging criteria. In order to verify the usefulness of the proposed new coalescence model, we performed finite element analysis and some parametric studies. Then, we developed a coalescence evaluation diagram.

  • In this paper, we aim to check the reliability growth of multiple launch rocket components by the life evaluation. We apply the Crow-AMSAA model to the sets of test data obtained from the development phase. The result of the data analysis shows that the reliability of some components needs to be improved. In order to improve their reliability, we analyze the failure mechanism and change their designs. The verification of the reliability growth for those components is done by analyzing the data sets obtained by the accelerated life tests. As a result, we show that the MTBF of those components is increased and also their reliabilities improved.

  • This study is to investigate the strategy on forming a long term relationship between logistics service provider and demander including maintaining strategy of it. For these purposes, effect on the organization and human factor of Logistics service companies and also, impact on the customer trust and relational commitment against service recovery are analysed. Literature review and empirical study are used to modify research model and to develop questionnaire for logistics service companies. Reliability for measuring procedure yields the same result on repeated trials and validity for identifying the accuracy of the accrual measuring instrument are also used. Suggested hypothesis are verified through multiple regression method and the testing results are shown as follows; First, organization and human factor have a positive effect to the service recovery satisfaction against the service failure of logistics service providing company. Second, the service recovery satisfaction also leads a positive effect on the customer trust and relational commitment.

  • PURPOSE. This study aimed to analyze factors influencing the success and failure of implant prostheses and to estimate the lifespan of prostheses using standardized evaluation criteria. An online survey platform was utilized to efficiently gather large samples from multiple institutions. MATERIALS AND METHODS. During the one-year period, patients visiting 16 institutions were assessed using standardized evaluation criteria (KAP criteria). Data from these institutions were collected through an online platform, and various statistical analyses were conducted. Risk factors were assessed using both the Cox proportional hazard model and Cox regression analysis. Survival analysis was conducted using Kaplan-Meier analysis and nomogram, and lifespan prediction was performed using principal component analysis. RESULTS. The number of patients involved in this study was 485, with a total of 841 prostheses evaluated. The median survival was estimated to be 16 years with a 95% confidence interval. Factors found to be significantly associated with implant prosthesis failure, characterized by higher hazard ratios, included the 'type of clinic', 'type of antagonist', and 'plaque index'. The lifespan of implant prostheses that did not fail was estimated to exceed the projected lifespan by approximately 1.34 years. CONCLUSION. To ensure the success of implant prostheses, maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial. The estimated lifespan of implant prostheses is often underestimated by approximately 1.34 years. Furthermore, standardized form, online platform, and visualization tool, such as nomogram, can be effectively utilized in future follow-up studies.

  • An alternative design method for interior flat plate-column connections subjected to punching shear and unbalanced moment was developed. Since the slab-column connections are severely damaged by flexural cracking before punching shear failure, punching shear was assumed to be resisted mainly by the compression zone of the slab critical section. Considering the interaction with the flexural moment of the slab, the punching shear strength of the compression zone was evaluated based on the material failure criteria of concrete subjected to multiple stresses. The punching shear strength was also used to evaluate the unbalanced moment capacity of the slab-column connections. For verification, the proposed strength model was applied to existing test specimens subjected to direct punching shear or combined punching shear and unbalanced moment. The results showed that the proposed method predicted the strengths of the test specimens better than current design methods in ACI 318 and Eurocode 2.

  • Hybrid coupled shear walls in tall buildings are known as efficient structural systems to provide lateral resistance to wind and seismic loads. Multiple hybrid coupled shear walls throughout a tall building should be joined to provide additional coupling action to resist overturning moments caused by the lateral loading. This can be done using a coupling beam which connects two shear walls. In this study, experimental studies on the hybrid coupled shear wall were carried out. The main test variables were the ratios of coupling beam strength to connection strength. Finally, this paper provides background for rational design guidelines that include a design model to behave efficiently hybrid coupled shear walls.

  • Recently, with the rapid growth of industry, environmental condition became worse. In addition to outdoor insulators in seashore are polluted due to salty wind. Also this pollution causes the flashover and failure of electric equipments. Especially the salt contaminant is one of the most representative pollutants, and known as the main source of the accident by contamination. As well known, the pollution has a close relation with meteorological factors such as wind velocity, wind direction, temperature, relative humidity, precipitation and so on. In this paper we have statistically analyzed the correlation between the pollution and the meteorological factors. The multiple regression analysis was used for the statistical analysis; daily measured equivalent salt deposit density(dependent variable) and the weather condition data(independent variable) were used. Also we have developed an expert program to predict the pollution deposit. A new prediction system using this program called SPPP(salt pollution prediction program) has been used to model accurately the relationship between ESDD with the meteorological factors.

  • In general, accelerated life testing is performed to reduce testing time. But it is difficult to apply accelerated life testing to a system besides components. This paper developed a software which estimates reliability measures of the system from results of accelerated life testing of components building the system. This software can handle the system with a large number of components and complex topology. Multiple failure modes of a component were also considered in this software. Based on the software, reliability measures of a gearbox example at several conditions were estimated from the accelerated life testing results of three components of the gearbox.

  • The reliability is defined as a probability that a system will operate properly for a specified period of time under the design operating conditions without failure and it has been considered as one of the major design parameters in the field of industries. Reliability-Redundancy Optimization Problem(RROP) involves selec tion of components with multiple choices and redundancy levels for maximizing system reliability with constraints such as cost, weight, etc. However, in practice both active and cold standby redundancies may be used within a particular system design. Therefore, a redundancy strategy(active, cold standby) for each subsystem in order to maximize system reliability is considered in this study. Due to the nature of RROP, i.e. NP-hard problem, A Parallel Particle Swarm Optimization(PPSO) algorithm is proposed to solve the mathematical programming model and it gives consistently better quality solutions than existing studies for benchmark problems.

  • We want to know the interrelationship among the four components of Total Quality Cost. So that we will be able to say what changes will occur in one when another is changed Even though the relationship among the component Cost is as varied as there are companies keeping such cost systems, existence of some general pattern is hypothesized at least among similar companies doing similar business or producing similar products. The purpose of this study is to drive Optimum Quality Cost on base of the result of the quality cost analyses in N business, after multiple regression model with failure cost as dependent variable is established. Vector Optimization (VOP) method were used for solving multiobjective decision ploblem.
