This research has been conducted to provide the spinal cord injured patients with comprehensive necessity of and backup data for their rehabilitation in the community and make the aware of importance of overall community support to patients. The data was collected through questionnaire made to 83 patients charged to general hospital in Jeonbuk Province between 1 and 31 March 1997 to analyse the patients ability on activities of daily living through the research on general characteristics and Modified Barthel Index(MBI). As a result the outcome of the research was as follows : 1. Sexual distribution represented that 57 male (68.7%) and 26 female(31.3%) and in the age distribution majority group was 36 thirties (43.4 %) most active in social activities. 2. Analysis on occupation of patients showed majority group was in technicians, 21 people representing 25.4 % and the major cause of injury was traffic accident, 45people representing 54.2%, fall down, 17 people representing 20.5% and industrial accident, 13 people representing 15.7%, respectively. 3. In the multiple choice questionnaire on complications, the rate of appealing pain was highest and spasticity, pressure sore, contracture, depression which restrict the patients from activities of daily living ability were also appeared. 4. The theoretical points in MBI Should lie between 1 and 115 and the average point be 58 but the average point of the MBI among 83 patients was 63. 5. The MBI point by the level of injured represented statistically critical difference(P<0.001) and the MBI points tested by Duncan's Multiple Area Testing in lumbar(80.1) and in thoracic (65.8) represented critically higher than the one in cervical(42.5). 6. In the distribution of the method of Urination after spine injury, the intermittent catheterization represented highest numbar of 34(41.1 %). Testing by Duncan's Multiple Area Testing, as we found the critical difference in the analysis on MBI points(P<0.001), the point in independent self voiding patients ($90.87{\pm}29.34$) was higher than the one in other self voiding patients(P<0.05). 7. In th category of social activities after spine injury, the number of people classified in others, 41 people representing 49.5% was highest and in the MBI points of the spinal cord injured people in religious activity, hobby activity, private club, occupation was critically higher than the people classified in miscellancous(P<0.01) who are the spinal cord injured people and mostly depend on their family's assistance at home in their daily activities.
In this paper, we propose a real-time people tracking system with multiple CCD cameras for security inside the building. The camera is mounted from the ceiling of the laboratory so that the image data of the passing people are fully overlapped. The implemented system recognizes people movement along various directions. To track people even when their images are partially overlapped, the proposed system estimates and tracks a bounding box enclosing each person in the tracking region. The approximated convex hull of each individual in the tracking area is obtained to provide more accurate tracking information. To achieve this goal, we propose a method for 3D walking human tracking based on the IMPRESARIO framework incorporating cascaded classifiers into hypothesis evaluation. The efficiency of adaptive selection of cascaded classifiers have been also presented. We have shown the improvement of reliability for likelihood calculation by using cascaded classifiers. Experimental results show that the proposed method can smoothly and effectively detect and track walking humans through environments such as dense forests.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to examine the relationships among pain belief, perceived social support, coping strategies, and quality of life of people with noncongenital spinal cord injury and to identify factors influencing quality of life. Methods: A correlational predictive design was used. The data were collected from 197 people with noncongenital spinal cord injury with questionnaires in 2012 in Korea. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression using SPSS/WIN 18.0. Results: Pain belief, perceived social support, and coping strategies were correlated significantly with the quality of life. As a result of stepwise multiple regression analysis, pain belief, perceived social support, coping strategies, damaged area, and time since injury were discovered to account for 59.1% variance of the quality of life. The variable that most affected the quality of life was pain belief followed by perceived social support and coping strategies. Conclusion: The results of the study clearly demonstrate the importance of pain control, social support, and coping skills in order to improve quality of life among people with noncongenital spinal cord injury.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors that affect depression among elderly people with, and without, dementia. Method: The participants were 903 people who were 65 or older and resided in Sungnam City. Data were collected from April to July 2002 using a questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and hierarchical multiple regression aided by SPSS/PC. Result: The variables at the final step of the regression equation accounted for 28.2% of variance in the dementia group, 21.4% in the group with suspicious dementia, and 18.9% in the normal group. The multiple regression analysis revealed that ADL and instrumental support were related significantly to depression in the dementia group. Self-rated health, IADL, social activity support, and instrumental support were significantly related to depression in the group with suspicious dementia. In the normal group, education, self-rated health, and living arrangement with family were significantly related to depression. Conclusion: Social support and health condition are important to decrease depression in elderly people with dementia.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify levels of hope, self-esteem, and quality of life, and to find correlations among these variables in people with spinal cord injury. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional descriptive survey. The data were collected by survey interview in 2010 from 120 people with spinal cord injury living in the community. To measure hope, self-esteem and quality of life, the Dispositional Hope Scale, Self-Esteem Scale, and World Health Organization's Quality of Life Instrument were utilized respectively. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and stepwise multiple regression analysis using SPSS version 12.0. Results: Mean score of hope was 2.56 and that of self-esteem was 3.23. Mean score of quality of life was 3.01. Statistically significant relationships were found between quality of life and hope (r=.73, p<.001), and between quality of life and self-esteem (r=.67, p<.001). Multiple regression analyses showed that hope and self-esteem were statistically significant in predicting quality of life with the explanatory power of 59.1%. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that nursing interventions fostering hope and self-esteem should be integrated in developing rehabilitation programs to improve quality of life for people with spinal cord injury.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing dementia preventive behavior intention of the elderly people based on the Health Belief Model. Methods: The participants included 113 elderly people who met the eligibility criteria. Demographic variables, variables of the Health Belief Model (perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefit, perceived barrier, cues to action, general health motivation, and self efficacy), dementia fear and behavioral intention of dementia prevention were examined using structured self-report questionnaires. Statistical analysis was performed by stepwise multiple regression using SPSS for Windows version 21. Results: Self efficacy, alcohol drinking, perceived barrier and education level were significant factors, which explained 32% of the variance in dementia preventive behavior intention. Multiple regression analysis demonstrated that a powerful predictor of dementia preventive behavior intention of the elderly was self efficacy. Conclusion: Developing nursing intervention to enhance self efficacy toward improvement of dementia preventive behavior among elderly people would be recommended.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to find the determinants for non-participation in health screenings among the disabled. Methods : We used 2014-15 Korea Health Panel data and analyzed 1,073 people with disabilities older than 19 years to investigate the two-year health screening participation rates. Multiple logistic regression analyses were conducted to analyze the factors affecting non-participation in health screenings. Results : Of the 1,073 people with disabilities who were analyzed, 29.8% and 27.1% participated in NHI mass screenings and cancer screenings, respectively. In both screenings, non-participation rates were higher in people aged 19-49 and lower in people aged 50 -69 than those aged 70 or older; higher in people with lower education, higher in people with private health insurance; higher in people with fewer chronic diseases; and higher in people with severe disability ratings. Conclusions : People with disabilities should be provided with more appropriate preventive care services according to their disability types and severity compared to people without disabilities.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of relationship benefit on consumer's purchase intention by focusing on the mediating role of interaction in internet shopping malls. The survey research was limited to respondents over 20 years old living in Seoul and other metropolitan areas who had purchased fashion products thru internet shopping malls. 562 data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, factor analysis, reliability analysis, and multiple regression using SPSS program. The results indicated that each relationship benefit dimension had a significantly positive effect on consumer's purchase intention. The interaction between internet shopping malls and the consumer was categorized by two factors such as content-people interaction and people-people interaction. In addition, each interactive factor showed mediating effects between relationship benefits and consumer's purchase intention.
