Background: This study examined the characteristics and prognosis of patients admitted to the Dunsan Korean medicine hospital for treatment of herniated intervertebral disc (HIVD) or spinal stenosis with Miniscalpel needle therapy (MSN). Methods: Patients were admitted to the Dunsan Korean medicine hospital from January 01, 2016 to September 30, 2017 for the treatment of HIVD or spinal stenosis with MSN. Crossover analysis, Independent sample t test, one-way ANOVA, multiple linear regression analysis, and binary logistic regression analysis were performed. Results: Crossover analysis showed statistically significant differences in treatment methods according to gender, current pain according to the disease duration, satisfaction of MSN according to disease duration, treatment methods, and intention of re-treatment with MSN according to treatment methods. Independent t test and one-way ANOVA showed that there was a difference in current Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) according to disease duration, and difference between discharge and current NRS, and number of MSN according to disease. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that age, disease duration, and number of MSN affect discharge NRS, disease duration, and number of MSN affect current NRS, and Western medical treatment after MSN, discharge NRS, and current NRS affect satisfaction of MSN. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that discharge NRS affects current pain, and gender, discharge NRS, and treatment methods affect intention of re-treatment with MSN. Conclusion: Characteristics, prognosis, satisfaction and variables affecting prognosis of MSN were statistically significant, indicating that more systematic studies are required to further examine the effects of MSN on HIVD or spinal stenosis.
The purpose of this study is to observe the pattern of change in medical care utilization over time in early years of insurance coverage. The source of data is the benefit records file of a voluntary medical insurance society for covering the four-year period, from 1982 to 1985. The measure of medical care utilization used in this study is the age-sex standardized percentage of the enrollee who have visited a physician over total analytical population during a three-month period. For six cohorts by the year of enrollment ($1979{\sim}1984$), the relationship between the utilization and duration of insurance coverage was examined controlling for the calender year and season. In the analysis, logistic multiple regression and residual analysis were employed. It was observed that medical care utilization rapidly increased during the early stage of insurance coverage, and after then increased at a slower rate over time to become almost stable in about twenty months.
Purpose: In this study, we sought to understand the risk factor for chronic disease of workers by studying the association between occupational standing time and metabolic syndrome(MetS) in full-time 300 male workers. Materials: Data on age, life habit, work related information of the subjects were surveyed using self-reported questionnaire and interview. MetS was identified based on the report of Alberti et al.(2009). As for the data analysis, SPSS 19.0 was used to conduct the descriptive statistic, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple logistic regression analysis. Results: Daily working hour affects on the lifting heavy objects, running and strenuous exercise(r=-0.137, p<0.01), and total physical function decreased with the increase in age(r=-0.145, p<0.01). Also, obese was significantly associated with genuflection and bend over(r=-0.110, p<0.05). On multiple logistic regression analysis for the diagnostic indices of MetS, occupational standing time were significantly associated with waist circumference(odds ratio=0.885, ${\beta}$ value=-0.122, 95% CI=0.797-0.983, p<0.05) and triglyceride (odds ratio=0.873, ${\beta}$ value=-0.136, 95% CI=0.800-0.953, p<0.01). Conclusions: These results suggest that the working posture may be important risk factor in pathogenesis and growing of MetS and cardiovascular disease.
This study was conducted to investigate the influencing factors on the appraisal of uncertainty in patients having rheumatoid arthritis. Subjects of the study constituted 528 patients who visited outpatient clinics of two university hospitals and one general hospital in Seoul. Self report questionnaires were used to measure the variables influencing the appraisal of uncertainty. Reliability coefficients of these instruments were found Cronbach's Alpha=$.70{\sim}.96$. In data analysis, SPSS PC 6.0 program was utilized for descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, logistic and multiple regression analysis. The results of logistic and multiple regression analysis were as follows 1) Among the independent variables, significant factors to explain the appraisal of uncertainty in patients were uncertainty(p<.001), severity of illness(p<.05), educational level (p<.05) and age (p<.05). 2) When patients appraised uncertainty as "Danger", significant factors to explain the appraisal of uncertainty were uncertainty(p<.0001), age(p<.0005), severity of illness(p<.001), educational level (p<.05). 3) When patients appraised uncertainty as "Opportunity", significant factors to predict the appraisal of uncertainty were uncertainty(p<.0005), social support(p<.0005), severity of illness(p<.005), credible authority(p<.05), age(p<.05) and educational level (p<.05).
Objectives: This study examined demographic factors hampering access to healthcare at hospitals and suggests policy approaches to improve healthcare management in Thailand. Methods: The data for the study were drawn from a health and welfare survey conducted by the National Statistical Office of Thailand in 2017. The population-based health and welfare survey was systematically carried out by skilled interviewers, who polled 21 519 384 individuals. The independent variables related to demographic data (age, sex, religion, marital status, education, occupation, and area of residence), chronic diseases, and health insurance coverage. The dependent variable was the degree of access to healthcare. Multiple logistic regression analysis was subsequently performed on the variables found to be significant in the univariate analysis. Results: Only 2.5% of the population did not visit a hospital when necessary for outpatient-department treatment, hospitalization, or the provision of oral care. The primary reasons people gave for not availing themselves of the services offered by government hospitals when they were ill were-in descending order of frequency-insufficient time to seek care, long hospital queues, travel inconvenience, a lack of hospital beds, unavailability of a dentist, not having someone to accompany them, and being unable to pay for the transportation costs. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that failure to access the health services provided at hospitals was associated with demographic, educational, occupational, health welfare, and geographic factors. Conclusions: Accessibility depends not only on health and welfare benefit coverage, but also on socioeconomic factors and the degree of convenience associated with visiting a hospital.
This study was to investigate the prevalence rate of musculoskeletal disorders in relation to general characteristic factors, living environment factors, and work environment factors for sonographer's. For the response questions, the guidelines for musculoskeletal burden work were used. For statistical analysis, SPSS 26.0 version was used. For the common body parts of the sonographer's who responded, the prevalence was investigated by dividing the group into a group with high pain or discomfort and a group with low pain or discomfort according to the degree to which they experienced symptoms during the past 12 months. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to determine the variance inflation factor(VIF), odds ratio (OR) and corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI). A p-value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant. As a result, housework hours, examination history, regular physical activity, number of patient examinations per day, and sitting posture were investigated as variables for rate musculoskeletal disorders. The sonographer's occupational group was found to have a high prevalence rate of musculoskeletal disorders like various other occupational groups. Based on the results of this study, it is judged that musculoskeletal disorders can be reduced by recognizing musculoskeletal disorders and improving work environment factors.
Objectives: This study was conducted to find out the prevalence and risk factors of anemia according to shift work. Methods: Data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Survey (2016-2020) were used. 9,787 workers were divided into shift workers and non-shift workers. The work type between 6AM-6PM was defined as day work, and other work types were defined as shift work. A chi-square test was used to indicate the distribution of risk factors expected to affect shift work in both frequency and percentage. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to find out the relationship between anemia prevalence and shift work. Results: As a result of analysis, multiple logistic regression analysis of anemia prevalence and shift work, the OR (95% CI) of male workers on shift work was 2.186 (1.139 to 4.194) and there was a statistically significant difference. Conclusions: In conclusion, anemia in male shift workers should be considered a possibility of health problems. In the future, research based on various data collection should be conducted for research to reveal various causes or diseases of anemia in the future.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between dietary calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) intake with DMFT (Decayed Missing Filled Teeth) among Korean schoolchildren. Methods: Data of 1,529 schoolchildren were derived from the Sixth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, which was conducted from 2013 to 2015. Sociodemographic, oral health behavior, and dietary factors were collected as independent variables. The DMFT was used as a dependent variable. The chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were performed to identify the correlation between dental caries and the other variables. Results: Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that DMFT was correlated with sex, age, and daily P intake. Conclusions: Adequate intake of phosphorus may have a positive effect in preventing dental caries in schoolchildren. Therefore education on increasing phosphorus intake, including raised awareness through provision of dietary guidelines, will be needed.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between early childhood caries(ECC) and breastfeeding. Methods : Data of 670 children were derived from the Forth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2007 to 2009. Demographic and socioeconomic data, oral health related behavior, and breastfeeding practice data were collected as independent variables. The ECC was used as a dependent variable. The chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were performed to identify the relationship between ECC and the other variables. Results : Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that ECC was related with age, tooth brushing frequency, and breastfeeding practice. Conclusions : This study confirmed various risk indicators of ECC in Korean children, using Korean national survey data. Parents should begin an early and consistent mouth care regime to decrease the risk of ECC.
