  • This paper provides a numerical solution for multiple confocal elliptic dissimilar cylinders. In the problem, the inner elliptic notch is under the traction free condition. The medium is composed of many confocal elliptic dissimilar cylinders. The transfer matrix method is used to study the continuity condition for the stress and displacement along the interfaces. Two cases, or the infinite matrix case and the finite matrix case, are studied in this paper. In the former case, the remote tension is applied in y- direction. In the latter case, the normal loading is applied along the exterior elliptic contour. For two cases, several numerical results are provided.

  • This paper describes a nonlinear goal programming approach to the optimal composition of composite solid propellant taking multiple characteristics into consideration synchronously. The nonlinear goal programming model with response functions, restrictions and the optimal value of each characteristic is developed using Scheffe's "Experiments with mixtures" and preference weighting system. Objective functions are described based on process, performance and assurance characteristics. The systematic approach to optimal composition in this study is proved efficient through a CTPB-AL-AP propellant which is one of composite solid propellant systems.

  • In this paper, we propose the virtual interface management scheme on the multi-mode mobile node for supporting multiple connections to various access networks in fixed mobile convergence (FMC) networks. The proposed scheme supports the virtualization of multiple physical network interfaces by presenting only the virtual interface to beyond IP layers and hiding physical network interfaces from them. In the proposed scheme, only one IP address is allocated to virtual interface without any IP allocations to physical network interfaces. Therefore, the proposed scheme does not change its IP address and keep it during the vertical handover, so that it can support the seamless handover of real-time multimedia services among heterogeneous access networks. The proposed scheme is implemented on the multi-mode mobile node with multiple network interfaces by using NDIS (Network Driver Interface Specifications) libraries. Through the mobility test-bed and the test application of virtual interface, we evaluate and analyze the performance of the proposed scheme.

  • To increase wireless capacity, the concurrent use of multiple wireless interfaces on different frequency bands, called aggregation, can be considered. In this paper, we focus on aggregation of multiple Wi-Fi interfaces with packet-level traffic spreading between the interfaces. Two aggregation schemes, link bonding and multipath TCP (MPTCP), are tested and compared in a dualband Wi-Fi radio system with their Linux implementation. Various test conditions such as traffic types, network delay, locations, interface failures and configuration parameters are considered. Experimental results show that aggregation increases throughput performance significantly over the use of a single interface. Link bonding achieves lower throughput than MPTCP due to duplicate TCP acknowledgements (ACKs) resulting from packet reordering and filtering such duplicate ACKs out is considered as a possible solution. However, link bonding is fast responsive to links' status changes such as a link failure. It is shown that different combinations of interface weights for packet spread in link bonding result in different throughput performance, envisioning a spatio-temporal adaptation of the weights. We also develop a mathematical model of power consumption and compare the power efficiency of the schemes applying different power consumption profiles.

  • Networks often evolve to provide a host with multiple access points to the Internet. In this paper, we propose a transport layer load distribution mechanism utilizing the multiple network interfaces simultaneously. We specifically propose an extension of Stream Control Transmission Protoco1 (SCTP) to have load sharing over multiple network interfaces. We named the particular service provided by the Proposed load sharing mechanism to be LS (Load Sharing) mode service. LS mode service is based on the following four key elements: (i) the separation of flow control and congestion control, (ii) congestion window based striping, (iii) redundant packet retransmission for fast packet loss recovery, (iv) a novel mechanism to keep track of the receiver window size with the SACKS even if they arrive out-of-order. Through simulations, it is shown that the proposed LS mode service can aggregate the bandwidth of multiple paths almost ideally despite of the disparity in their bandwidth. When a path with a delay of 100% greater is utilized as the second path, the throughput is enhanced about 20%.

  • PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to test the modulus of elasticity (E) across the interfaces of yttria stabilized zirconia (YTZP) / veneer multilayers using nanoindentation. MATERIALS AND METHODS. YTZP core material (KaVo-Everest, Germany) specimens were either coated with a liner (IPS e.max ZirLiner, Ivoclar-Vivadent) (Type-1) or left as-sintered (Type-2) and subsequently veneered with a pressable glass-ceramic (IPS e.max ZirPress, Ivoclar-Vivadent). A $5{\mu}m$ (nominal tip diameter) spherical indenter was used with a UMIS CSIRO 2000 (ASI, Canberra, Australia) nanoindenter system to test E across the exposed and polished interfaces of both specimen types. The multiple point load - partial unload method was used for E determination. All materials used were characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X - ray powder diffraction (XRD). E mappings of the areas tested were produced from the nanoindentation data. RESULTS. A significantly (P<.05) lower E value between Type-1 and Type-2 specimens at a distance of $40{\mu}m$ in the veneer material was associated with the liner. XRD and SEM characterization of the zirconia sample showed a fine grained bulk tetragonal phase. IPS e-max ZirPress and IPS e-max ZirLiner materials were characterized as amorphous. CONCLUSION. The liner between the YTZP core and the heat pressed veneer may act as a weak link in this dental multilayer due to its significantly (P<.05) lower E. The present study has shown nanoindentation using spherical indentation and the multiple point load - partial unload method to be reliable predictors of E and useful evaluation tools for layered dental ceramic interfaces.

  • Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) is the network-based mobility management protocol that network supports the mobility of mobile node (MN) on behalf of the MN. In PMIPv6, a multi-homed MN can connect to the PMIPv6 domain by using only one interface even though it has multiple interfaces. It would be efficient when such a multi-homed MN connects to the PMIPv6 domain by using all of its interfaces. If such a multi-homed MN utilizes all of its interfaces, flow mobility can be provided that the MN handovers one or more flows from one interface to another without re-establishing session. In this paper, we propose the flow-based mobility management protocol by considering the intention of the user. The Router Advertisement (RA) message is used in order for the PMIPv6 domain to inform that the MN can utilize the flow mobility. The proposed mechanism is evaluated by analyzing signaling overhead and handover latency, and the numerical results show that the performance is affected by mobility speed of the MN and the failure probability of the wireless link.

  • This paper proposes the mechanism which improves the qualify of video on a limited network bandwidth by applying the ROI technique to an H.264 Scalable Extension technique. The network environment assumed in this parer is the next generation network convergence environment in which the mobile device has one or more network interfaces. Therefore, we allocate the priority to video packets as the hierarchy structure of H.264 SVC-encoded video stream and ROI information, and transmit those packets over appropriate network channel for using those multiple network interfaces. This paper shows two experiments first one is extracting and allocating the video stream on an appropriate network channel, second one is unequal packet transmission by allocated priorities (e.g. ROI). Performance evaluations show that this approach delivers an improved decoded video quality when compared with conventional transmission schemes, especially on device which has multiple network interfaces.

  • Any user in Ubiquitous environments have to be able to access networks in anywhere and anytime. Thus interests and researches are increasing. In this paper, we propose an interface selection scheme that adaptively utilizes a proper interface, as the wireless channel condition changes, instead of utilizing only one interface while the node is in move. The proposed scheme can determine which interface would be the most proper one by measuring data rate, packet error rate (PER), and end-to-end delay of each interface. From the simulation results, it is verified that the proposed scheme is able to enhance packet transmission about 20% better.
