To analyze the influence of various groundwater flow rates (specific discharge) on BHE system with balanced and unbalanced energy loads under assuming same initial temperature (15℃) of ground and groundwater, numerical modeling using FEFLOW was used for this study. When groundwater flow is increased from 1 × 10−7 to 4 × 10−7m/s under balanced energy load, the performance of BHE system is improved about 26.7% in summer and 22.7% at winter time in a single BHE case as well as about 12.0~18.6% in summer and 7.6~8.7% in winter time depending on the number of boreholes in the grid, their array type, and bore hole separation in multiple BHE system case. In other words, the performance of BHE system is improved due to lower avT in summer and higher avT in winter time when groundwater flow becomes larger. On the contrary it is decreased owing to higher avT in summer and lower avT in winter time when the numbers of BHEs in an array are increased, Geothermal plume created at down-gradient area by groundwater flow is relatively small in balanced load condition while quite large in unbalanced load condition. Groundwater flow enhances in general the thermal efficiency by transferring heat away from the BHEs. Therefore it is highly required to obtain and to use adequate informations on hydrogeologic characterristics (K, S, hydraulic gradient, seasonal variation of groundwater temperature and water level) along with integrating groundwater flow and also hydrogeothermal properties (thermal conductivity, seasonal variation of ground temperatures etc.) of the relevant area for achieving the optimal design of BHE system.
Airborne Lidar (light detection and ranging) can be an effective alternative in forest inventory to overcome the limitations of conventional field survey and aerial photo interpretation. In this study, we attempt to develop methodologies to identify individual trees and to estimate tree height from airborne Lidar data. Initially, digital elevation model (DEM) data representing the exact ground surface were generated by removing non-ground returns from the multiple-return laser point clouds, obtained over the coniferous forest site of rugged terrain. Based on the canopy height model (CHM) data representing non-ground layer, individual tree heights are extracted through pseudo-grid method and moving window filtering algorithm. Comparing with field survey data and aerial photo interpretation on sample plots, the number of trees extracted from Lidar data show over 90% accuracy and tree heights were underestimated within 1.1m in average at two plantation stands of pine (Pinus koraiensis) and larch (Larix leptolepis).

Cyber-infrastructures for scientific and engineering applications require integrating heterogeneous legacy data in different formats and from various domains. Such data integration raises challenging issues: (1) Support for multiple independently-managed schemas, (2) Ease of schema evolution, and (3) Simple schema mappings. In order to address these issues, we propose a novel approach to semantic integration of scientific data which uses XML schemas and RDF-based schema mappings. In this approach, XML schema al-lows scientists to manage data models intuitively and to use commodity XML DBMS tools. A simple RDF-based ontological representation scheme is used for only structural relations among independently-managed XML schemas from different institutes or domains We present the design and implementation of a prototype system developed for the national cyber-environments for civil engi-neering research activities in Korea (similar to the NEES project in USA) which is called KOCEDgrid (http://www.koced.net).
A flow determination algorithm is proposed for the distributed hydrologic model. The advantages of a single flow direction scheme and multiple flow direction schemes are selectively considered to address the drawbacks of existing algorithms. A spatially varied flow apportioning factor is introduced in order to accommodate the accumulated area from upslope cells. The channel initiation threshold area(CIT) concept is expanded and integrated into the spatially distributed flow apportioning algorithm in order to delineate a realistic channel network. An application of a field example suggests that the linearly distributed flow apportioning scheme provides some advantages over existing approaches, such as the relaxation of over-dissipation problems near channel cells, the connectivity feature of river cells, the continuity of saturated areas and the negligence of the optimization of few parameters in existing algorithms. The effects of grid sizes are explored spatially as well as statistically.

Peak power reduction is becoming increasingly important not only for grid operators but also for residential users. The scheduling of electric loads tries to reduce the power peak by splitting the power-on period of an electric device into multiple smaller ones and by interleaving the on-periods of every device in a holistic way. This paper analyzes the performance of EDF, LSF, TCBM, and lazy scheduling algorithms and proposes the enhancement schemes. For analysis, we have implemented the scheduling policies in a simulation environment for distributed control systems. Through extensive experiments using real power traces, we discuss their performance characteristics in terms of power deviation, switch count, and temperature violation ratio. To prevent excessive switching, we propose to employ the concept of limited preemptibility and evaluate its effect on performance. It is found that the best performance is achieved when the scheduler capacity is dynamically adjusted to the actual power demand. The experiment results show that, by load scheduling, the probability of having a power deviation greater than 150W is reduced from 21.5% down to 3.2%.

This study reviewed different results according to the selection of viewpoints and considerations of the neighborhood in the analysis of view to regulate the height of buildings. To do this, 4 cases were set according to the analytical methodology and a GIS simulation was performed. Characteristics of each methodology were compared and analyzed by simulated values with ANOVA(analysis of variance) and post-hoc analysis. First, the method using moving viewpoints was found to be appropriate for the regulation of building height as it could reflect basic characteristics of landscape which was sequential and it did not show big difference in analysis result according to situational setting. Second, the method using grid viewpoints showed a problem that viewpoints at left and right sides viewed ridges of other mountains than the background mountains of the target land. Additionally, the simulation method that induces three-dimensional cross-sections between multiple sight-surface and virtual construction points created at viewpoints used in this study was found to be useful in the simulation review with various settings as it induced the marginal height of the spot quantitatively.

A onetimensional distribution of the temperature and the heat source in the SOI (silicon-on-insulator) multi-layer structure illuminated by tungsten lamps from both sides was obtained by solving the heat equation in steady state on a finite difference grid using successive over-relaxation method. The heat source distribution was obtained by considering such features as spectral components of the light source, multiple reflection at the internal interfaces, temperature and frequency dependence of the light absorption coefficient, etc. The front and back surface temperatures, which are boundary conditions for the heat equation, were derived from a requirement that they satisfy the radiation conditions. The radiation flux as well as the conduction flux was considered in modelling the thermal behaviour at the internal interfaces. Since the temperature and the heat source profiles are strongly dependent upon each other, the calculation of each profile was iterated using the updated profile of the other until they are consistent with each other. The experimental temperature at the front surface of the wafer as measured by Pyrometer was about 1200$^{\circ}$K, while the simulated temperature was 1120$^{\circ}$K.

Purpose: This study examined the factors that can be associated with the appearance of the interproximal papilla. Methods: One hundred and forty-seven healthy interproximal papillae between the maxillary central incisors were examined. For each subject, a digital photograph and periapical radiograph of the interdental embrasure were taken using a 1-mm grid metal piece. The following parameters were recorded: the amount of recession of the interproximal papilla, contact point-bone crest distance, contact point-cemento-enamel junction (CEJ) distance, CEJ-bone crest distance, inter-radicular distance, tooth shape, embrasure space size, interproximal contact area, gingival biotype, papilla height, and papilla tip form. Results: The amount of recession of the interproximal papilla was associated with the following: 1) increase in contact point-bone crest, contact point-CEJ, and CEJ-bone crest distance; 2) increase in the inter-radicular distance; 3) triangular tooth shape; 4) decrease in the interproximal contact area length; 5) increase in the embrasure space size; and 6) flat papilla tip form. On the other hand, the amount of gingival recession was not associated with the gingival biotype or papilla height. In the triangular tooth shape, the contact point-bone crest distance and inter-radicular distance were longer, the interproximal contact area length was shorter, and the embrasure space size was larger. The papilla tip form became flatter with increasing inter-radicular distance and CEJ-bone crest distance. Conclusions: The relative position of the interproximal papilla in healthy subjects was associated with the multiple factors and each factor was related to the others. A triangular tooth shape carries a higher risk of recession of the interproximal papilla because the proximal contact point is positioned more incisally and the bone crest is positioned more apically. This results in an increase in recession of the interproximal papilla and flat papilla tip form.

In this study, solder joints were made with Sn-3.5Ag (wt%) solder ball. Electroless nickel / immersion gold (ENIG) printed circuit board (PCB) substrates were employed in this work. The mechanical and electrical properties were measured as a function of the number of reflow. Die shear strength was measured with increasing reflow number. Until the forth or fifth reflow, shear force increased and after the fifth reflow the shear force of die decreased. The electrical resistivity of solder joint linearly increased with increasing reflow number.
In this paper, we present how to create a point cloud for a target area using multiple unmanned aerial vehicle images and to remove the gaps and overlapping points between datasets. For this purpose, first, IBA (Incremental Bundle Adjustment) technique was applied to correct the position and attitude of UAV platform. We generate a point cloud by using MDR (Multi-Dimensional Relaxation) matching technique. Next, we register point clouds based on observation vectors between stereo images by doing this we remove gaps between point clouds which are generated from different stereo pairs. Finally, we applied an occupancy grids based integration algorithm to remove duplicated points to create an integrated point cloud. The experiments were performed using UAV images, and our experiments show that it is possible to remove gaps and duplicate points between point clouds generated from different stereo pairs.
