In the task of continuous dimension emotion recognition, the parts that highlight the emotional expression are not the same in each mode, and the influences of different modes on the emotional state is also different. Therefore, this paper studies the fusion of the two most important modes in emotional recognition (voice and visual expression), and proposes a two-mode dual-modal emotion recognition method combined with the attention mechanism of the improved AlexNet network. After a simple preprocessing of the audio signal and the video signal, respectively, the first step is to use the prior knowledge to realize the extraction of audio characteristics. Then, facial expression features are extracted by the improved AlexNet network. Finally, the multimodal attention mechanism is used to fuse facial expression features and audio features, and the improved loss function is used to optimize the modal missing problem, so as to improve the robustness of the model and the performance of emotion recognition. The experimental results show that the concordance coefficient of the proposed model in the two dimensions of arousal and valence (concordance correlation coefficient) were 0.729 and 0.718, respectively, which are superior to several comparative algorithms.
The purpose of this paper is to introduce a multimodal interface for mobile phones and to verify its feasibility. The multimodal interface integrates multiple input devices together including speech, keypad and motion. It can enhance the late and time for speech recognition, and shorten the menu depth.
In this paper, we have proposed personal multimodal biometric authentication system based on face detection, recognition and speaker verification for smart-phone environment. Proposed system detect the face with Modified Census Transform algorithm then find the eye position in the face by using gabor filter and k-means algorithm. Perform preprocessing on the detected face and eye position, then we recognize with Linear Discriminant Analysis algorithm. Afterward in speaker verification process, we extract the feature from the end point of the speech data and Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient. We verified the speaker through Dynamic Time Warping algorithm because the speech feature changes in real-time. The proposed multimodal biometric system is to fuse the face and speech feature (to optimize the internal operation by integer representation) for smart-phone based real-time face detection, recognition and speaker verification. As mentioned the multimodal biometric system could form the reliable system by estimating the reasonable performance.
The drowsiness that occurs in the driving is a very dangerous driver condition that can be directly linked to a major accident. In order to prevent drowsiness, there are traditional drowsiness detection methods to grasp the driver's condition, but there is a limit to the generalized driver's condition recognition that reflects the individual characteristics of drivers. In recent years, deep learning based state recognition studies have been proposed to recognize drivers' condition. Deep learning has the advantage of extracting features from a non-human machine and deriving a more generalized recognition model. In this study, we propose a more accurate state recognition model than the existing deep learning method by learning image and PPG at the same time to grasp driver's condition. This paper confirms the effect of driver's image and PPG data on drowsiness detection and experiment to see if it improves the performance of learning model when used together. We confirmed the accuracy improvement of around 3% when using image and PPG together than using image alone. In addition, the multimodal deep learning based model that classifies the driver's condition into three categories showed a classification accuracy of 96%.

Multimodal biometric-based recognition has been an active topic because of its higher convenience in recent years. Due to high user convenience of finger, finger-based personal identification has been widely used in practice. Hence, taking Finger-Print (FP), Finger-Vein (FV) and Finger-Knuckle-Print (FKP) as the ingredients of characteristic, their feature representation were helpful for improving the universality and reliability in identification. To usefully fuse the multimodal finger-features together, a new robust representation algorithm was proposed based on hierarchical model. Firstly, to obtain more robust features, the feature maps were obtained by Gabor magnitude feature coding and then described by Local Binary Pattern (LBP). Secondly, the LGBP-based feature maps were processed hierarchically in bottom-up mode by variable rectangle and circle granules, respectively. Finally, the intension of each granule was represented by Local-invariant Gray Features (LGFs) and called Hierarchical Local-Gabor-based Gray Invariant Features (HLGGIFs). Experiment results revealed that the proposed algorithm is capable of improving rotation variation of finger-pose, and achieving lower Equal Error Rate (EER) in our homemade database.
In this paper, we present SCCRS(Speech and Character Combined Recognition System) for speaker /writer independent. on-line multimodal interfaces. In general, it has been known that the CHMM(Continuous Hidden Markov Mode] ) is very useful method for speech recognition and on-line character recognition, respectively. In the proposed method, the same CHMM is applied to both speech and character recognition, so as to construct a combined system. For such a purpose, 115 CHMM having 3 states and 9 transitions are constructed using MLE(Maximum Likelihood Estimation) algorithm. Different features are extracted for speech and character recognition: MFCC(Mel Frequency Cepstrum Coefficient) Is used for speech in the preprocessing, while position parameter is utilized for cursive character At recognition step, the proposed SCCRS employs OPDP (One Pass Dynamic Programming), so as to be a practical combined recognition system. Experimental results show that the recognition rates for voice phoneme, voice word, cursive character grapheme, and cursive character word are 51.65%, 88.6%, 85.3%, and 85.6%, respectively, when not using any language models. It demonstrates the efficiency of the proposed system.

Emotion recognition is an essential component of complete interaction between human and machine. The issues related to emotion recognition are a result of the different types of emotions expressed in several forms such as visual, sound, and physiological signal. Recent advancements in the field show that combined modalities, such as visual, voice and electroencephalography signals, lead to better result compared to the use of single modalities separately. Previous studies have explored the use of multiple modalities for accurate predictions of emotion; however the number of studies regarding real-time implementation is limited because of the difficulty in simultaneously implementing multiple modalities of emotion recognition. In this study, we proposed an emotion recognition system for real-time emotion recognition implementation. Our model was built with a multithreading block that enables the implementation of each modality using separate threads for continuous synchronization. First, we separately achieved emotion recognition for each modality before enabling the use of the multithreaded system. To verify the correctness of the results, we compared the performance accuracy of unimodal and multimodal emotion recognitions in real-time. The experimental results showed real-time user emotion recognition of the proposed model. In addition, the effectiveness of the multimodalities for emotion recognition was observed. Our multimodal model was able to obtain an accuracy of 80.1% as compared to the unimodality, which obtained accuracies of 70.9, 54.3, and 63.1%.
As the development of technology advances at exceptional speed, the functions of wearable devices become more diverse and complicated, and many users find some of the functions difficult to use. In this paper, the main aim is to provide the user with an interface that is more friendly and easier to use. The speech recognition is easy to use and also easy to insert an input order. However, speech recognition is problematic when using on a wearable device that has limited computing power and battery. The wearable device cannot predict when the user will give an order through speech recognition. This means that while speech recognition must always be activated, because of the battery issue, the time taken waiting for the user to give an order is impractical. In order to solve this problem, we use gesture recognition. This paper describes how to use both speech and gesture recognition as a multimodal interface to increase the user's comfort.
Biometric performance improvement is a challenging task. In this paper, a hierarchical strategy fusion based on multimodal biometric system is presented. This strategy relies on a combination of several biometric traits using a multi-level biometric fusion hierarchy. The multi-level biometric fusion includes a pre-classification fusion with optimal feature selection and a post-classification fusion that is based on the similarity of the maximum of matching scores. The proposed solution enhances biometric recognition performances based on suitable feature selection and reduction, such as principal component analysis (PCA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA), as much as not all of the feature vectors components support the performance improvement degree.
With the development of artificial intelligence, many studies have focused on evaluating abnormal situations by using various sensors, as industries try to automate some of the surveillance and security tasks traditionally performed by humans. In particular, mobile robots using multimodal sensors are being used for pilot operations aimed at helping security robots cope with various outdoor situations. Multiagent systems, which combine fixed and mobile systems, can provide more efficient coverage (than that provided by other systems), but network bottlenecks resulting from increased data processing and communication are encountered. In this report, we will examine recent trends in object recognition and abnormal-situation determination in various changing outdoor security robot environments, and describe an outdoor security robot platform that operates as a multiagent equipped with a multimodal sensor.
