Agent-based Adaptive Multimedia Streaming Considering Device Capabilities and Dynamic Network Conditions (무선 단말의 처리능력과 동적 네트워크 환경을 고려한 에이전트 기반의 적응적 멀티미디어 스트리밍 기법)

  • In order to provide smart devices with high quality multimedia streaming services, an adaptive streaming technique over HTTP has been received much attention recently and the Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) standard has been established. In DASH, however, the technique to select an appropriate quality of multimedia based on the performance metrics measured in a smart device might have some difficulties to reflect the capabilities of other neighboring smart devices and dynamic network conditions in real time. To solve the problem, this paper proposes a novel software agent approach, called DASH agent (DA), which gathers and analyzes the device capabilities and dynamic network conditions in real time and finally determines the highest achievable quality of segment to meet the best Quality of Experience (QoE) in current situations. The simulation results show that our approach provides higher quality of multimedia segments with less frequency of quality changes to lower quality of multimedia segments.

Embedded One Chip Computer Design for Hardware Implementation of Genetic Algorithm (유전자 알고리즘 하드웨어 구현을 위한 전용 원칩 컴퓨터의 설계)

  • Genetic Algorithm(GA) has known as a method of solving NP problem in various applications. Since a major drawback of the GA is that it needs a long computation time, the hardware implementation of Genetic Algorithm is focused on in recent studies. This paper proposes a new type of embedded one chip computer fort Hardware Implementation of Genetic Algorithm. The proposed embedded one chip computer consists of 16 Bit CPU care and hardware of genetic algorithm. In contrast to conventional hardware oriented GA which is dependent on main computer in the process of GA, the proposed embedded one chip computer is independent on main computer. Conventional hardware GA uses the fixed length of chromosome but the proposed embedded one chip computer uses the variable length of chromosome by employing the efficient 16 bit Pipeline Unit. Experimental results show that the proposed one chip computer is applicable to the design of evolvable hardware for Random NRZ bit synchronization circuit.

  • To alleviate the size and bandwidth requirement in JPEG2000 system, a new Embedded Compression(EC) algorithm with minor image quality drop is proposed. For both random accessibility and low latency, very simple and efficient hadamard transform based compression algorithm is devised. We reduced LL intermediate memory and code-block memory to about half size and achieved significant memory bandwidth reductions(about 52~73%) through proposed multi-mode algorithms, without requiring any modification in JPEG2000 standard algorithm.

Real-time Multiple Pedestrians Tracking for Embedded Smart Visual Systems

  • Even though so much progresses have been achieved in Multiple Object Tracking (MOT), most of reported MOT methods are not still satisfactory for commercial embedded products like Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) camera. In this paper, we propose a real-time multiple pedestrians tracking method for embedded environments. First, we design a new light weight convolutional neural network(CNN)-based pedestrian detector, which is constructed to detect even small size pedestrians, as well. For further saving of processing time, the designed detector is applied for every other frame, and Kalman filter is employed to predict pedestrians' positions in frames where the designed CNN-based detector is not applied. The pose orientation information is incorporated to enhance object association for tracking pedestrians without further computational cost. Through experiments on Nvidia's embedded computing board, Jetson TX2, it is verified that the designed pedestrian detector detects even small size pedestrians fast and well, compared to many state-of-the-art detectors, and that the proposed tracking method can track pedestrians in real-time and show accuracy performance comparably to performances of many state-of-the-art tracking methods, which do not target for operation in embedded systems.

  • 본 논문에서는 임베디드 리눅스와 그에 따른 통합 개발 환경인 QpusME/Esto에서 제공하는 전력소모량 분석도구를 이용하여 H.264 디코더의 함수별 전력 소모량을 측정하여 공개함으로써 향후 연구에 기반 정보로 사용하도록 한다. 또한 이를 이용하여 MacroBlock 디코딩시, 전력을 줄일 수 있는 다양한 방법 중 하나의 예를 제시하고 그 실험 결과를 제시한다.

High Resolution 360 degree Video Generation System using Multiple Cameras (다수의 카메라를 이용한 고해상도 360도 동영상 생성 시스템)

  • This paper develops a 360 degree video system using multiple off-the-shelf webcams and a set of embedded boards. Existing 360 degree cameras have shortcomings that they do not support real-time video generation since recorded videos should be copied to computers or smartphones which then provide stitching. Another shortcoming is that wide FoV(Field of View) cameras are not able to provide sufficiently high resolution. Moreover, resulting images are visually distorted bending straight lines. By employing an array of 65 degree FoV webcams, we were able to generate videos on the spot and achieve over 6K resolution with much less distortion. We describe the configuration and algorithms of the proposed system. The performance evaluation results of our early stage prototype system are presented.

  • Streaming Technology can support the real-time playback without downloading and storing multimedia data in local HDD. So, client browser or plug-in can represent multimedia data before the end of file transmission using streaming technology. Recently, the demand for efficient real-time playback and transmission of large amounts of multimedia data is growing rapidly. But most users' connections over network are not fast and stable enough to download large chunks of multimedia data. In this paper, we propose an intelligent IP streaming system based on personalized media service. The proposed IP streaming system enables users to get an intelligent recommendation of multimedia contents based on the user preference information stored on the streaming server or the home media server. The supposed intelligent IP streaming system consists of Server Metadata Agent, Pumping Server, Contents Storage Server, Client Metadata Agent and Streaming Player. And in order to implement the personalized media service, the user information, user preference information and client device information are managed under database concept. Moreover, users are assured of seamless access of streamed content event if they switch to another client device by implementing streaming system based on user identification and device information. We evaluate our approach with manufacturing home server system and simulation results.

  • Light-emitting diodes (LED) have many advantages for dental astral lighting because of their high color rendering index (CRI), low power consumption, light weight and longer life. A dental astral lamp is specially designed and simulated for securing the extra space for installing a multimedia display that will be helpful for treating young patients. The optical system using the reverse dual reflection method consisted of four illumination modules disposed at the four corners of the dental astral lamp, and each module comprises a high power LED, an elliptical mirror, and a multifacet reflector assembly using eight cylindrical mirrors. It is shown that the required illuminance, illumination pattern, and the illumination uniformity are well satisfied.
