  • Most game players obtain more satisfactions by interacting with human players that have fluxed behavior patterns, than with NPC(Non-Player Character)s that have fixed behavior patterns. Since it is impossible that game players always interact with human players, adaptive NPCs that can variously behave are required. In this paper, we present a method to create adaptive NPCs using a dynamic FSM(Finite State Machine). This method configures a dynamic FSM by using behavior information at behavior database, and repeatedly updates the dynamic FSM so that the dynamic FSM's total efficiency approaches to a given target efficiency. NPC adapts to game players through this process. For an experiment, we have implemented a 2D game with this strategy, and experimented with various target efficiencies. We show that a dynamic FSM's total efficiency approaches to target efficiency by updating a dynamic FSM several times over. It means that the adaptive NPC to be generated, adapts to game players.

  • The time taken for an ischemic heart disease patient to have a percutaneous coronary intervention because of acute myocardial infarction after arriving at the hospitals (door-to-balloon time) affects the patient's mortality significantly. To improve the emergency service system that has been previously used in the hospitals, this study focused on reducing door-data time and data-to-decision time among three time stages. The newly established e-emergency service system has set up the database of patients that had an emergency operation for acute myocardial infarction in the emergency service system of the hospital and has issued health cards for the patients that regularly visit the Busan National University Hospital. In addition, it has stored prior operation permits in the form of a certified electronic document. The new electronic system will reduce the complex treatment and operation procedures innovatively. Therefore, it is expected that this will make the life save (or the emergency patients easier and reduce the mortality. Moreover, it will also settle down the hospital staff's and patients' predicaments caused by the complex procedure of the legacy system.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel fingerprint classification method to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the fingerprint identification system, one of biometrics systems. According to the previous researches, fingerprints can be categorized into the several patterns based on their pattern of ridges and valleys. After construction of fingerprint database based on their patters, fingerprint classification approach can help to accelerate the fingerprint recognition. The reason is that classification methods reduce the size of the search space to the fingerprints of the same category before matching. First, we suggest a method to extract region of interest (ROI) which have real information about fingerprint from the image. And then we propose a feature extraction method which combines gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) and wavelet features. Finally, we compare the performance of our proposed method with the existing method which use only GLCM as the feature of fingerprint by using the multi-layer perceptron and support vector machine.

  • In recent years, embedded systems have been expanding their application domains from traditional embedded systems such as military weapons, robots, satellites and digital convergence systems such as celluar phones, PMP(Portable Multimedia Player), PDAs(Personal Digital Assistants) to Next Generation Personal Computers(NGPCs) such as eating PCs, wearable computers. The NGPCs are network-based, human-centric digital information devices diverged from the traditional PCs used mainly for document writing, internet searching and database management. Wearable computers with battery capacity and memory size limitations have to use real-time operating systems with small footprints and low power management techniques to provide user's QoS in spite of hardware constraints. In this paper, we have designed and implemented a low-power RTOS (called eRTOS) for wearable computers. The implemented eRTOS has 18KB footprints and the dynamic power management and the device power management schemes are adapted in it. Experimental results with wearable computer applications show that the low power techniques could save energy up to 47 %.

  • It has been estimated that 'RFID' technology would be playing an important role in the incoming ubiquitous environment. For this reason, many studies on 'RFID' have been conducted and its application has been on the increase in various fields such as finance, medicine, transportation and culture as well as in logistics distribution. However, the communication between Tag and Reader in RFID system has been conducted by wireless communication of radio frequency so that the information on identification could be eavesdropped by the third party maliciously. Such eavesdropped information could be also used as basic information in attacking others; in this regard, it could impair the privacy of its users and the users have avoided using 'RFID.' To solve theses problems, many studies are being performed to different output of tags by renewing ID. However, protocols have been devised without considering an ID Synchronization in the ID renewal process between database and tag in the existing studies. In this regard, this study has suggested a RFID Authentication Protocol while considering the ID Synchronization.

  • This paper presents face recognition algorithm using projection vector reflecting local feature for the area in contour lines. The outline shape of a face has many difficulties to distinguish people because human has similar face shape. For 3 dimensional(3D) face images include depth information, we can extract different face shapes from the nose tip using some depth values for a face image. In this thesis deals with 3D face image, because the extraction of contour lines from 2 dimensional face images is hard work. After finding nose tip, we extract two areas in the contour lilies from some depth values from 3D face image which is obtained by 3D laser scanner. And we propose a method of projection vector to localize the characteristics of image and reduce the number of index data in database. Euclidean distance is used to compare of similarity between two images. Proposed algorithm can be made recognition rate of 94.3% for face shapes using depth information.

  • This paper presents a multidimensional type inheritance indexing technique (MD-TIX) for XML databases. We use a multidimensional file organization as the index structure. In conventional XML database indexing techniques using one-dimensional index structures, they do not efficiently handle complex queries involving both nested elements and type inheritance hierarchies. We extend a two-dimensional type hierarchy indexing technique(2D-THI) for indexing the nested elements of XML databases. 2D-THI is an indexing scheme that deals with the problem of clustering elements in a two-dimensional domain space consisting of the key value domain and the type identifier domain for indexing a simple element in a type hierarchy. In our extended scheme, we handle the clustering of the index entries in a multidimensional domain space consisting of a key value domain and multiple type identifier domains that include one type identifier domain per type hierarchy on a path expression. This scheme efficiently supports queries that involve search conditions on the nested element represented by an extended path expression. An extended path expression is a path expression in which every type hierarchy on a path can be substituted by an individual type or a subtype hierarchy.

  • An electronic medical record (EMR) is the medical system that all the test are recorded as text data. However, domestic EMR systems have various forms of medical records. There are a lot of related works to standardize the laboratory codes as a LOINC (Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Code). However the existing researches resolve the problem manually. The manual process does not work when the size of data is enormous. The paper proposes a novel automatic LOINC mapping algorithm which uses indexing techniques and semantic similarity analysis of medical information. They use file system which is not proper to enormous medical data. We designed and implemented mapping algorithm for standardization laboratory codes in medical informatics compared with the existing researches that are only proposed algorithms. The automatic creation of searching words is being possible. Moreover, the paper implemented medical searching framework based on database system that is considered large size of medical data.

  • In order to diagnose and prevent Alzheimer's Disease (AD), it is becoming increasingly important to develop a CAD(Computer-aided Diagnosis) system for AD diagnosis, which provides effective treatment for patients by analyzing 3D MRI images. It is essential to apply powerful deep learning algorithms in order to automatically classify stages of Alzheimer's Disease and to develop a Alzheimer's Disease support diagnosis system that has the function of detecting hippocampus and CSF(Cerebrospinal fluid) which are important biomarkers in diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease. In this paper, for AD diagnosis, we classify a given MRI data into three categories of AD, mild cognitive impairment, and normal control according by applying 3D brain MRI image to the Faster R-CNN model and detect hippocampus and CSF in MRI image. To do this, we use the 2D MRI slice images extracted from the 3D MRI data of the Faster R-CNN, and perform the widely used majority voting algorithm on the resulting bounding box labels for classification. To verify the proposed method, we used the public ADNI data set, which is the standard brain MRI database. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves impressive classification performance compared with other state-of-the-art methods.
