Development of Teaching Materials and Effects for the Improvement of Multimedia Utilization Ability for Pre-Kindergarten Teachers-Focusing on Visual Perception Interface (예비유아교사의 멀티미디어 활용능력 향상을 위한 교재개발 및 효과-시지각 인터페이스를 중심으로)

  • This study was practiced in order to develop a textbook to improve early childhood teachers' ability to use multimedia required by kindergartens and to examine its effects. First, investigation of the status of multimedia application of early childhood teachers in kindergartens was done along with looking through their attitude and anxiety. The expertise and the multimedia education was required in early childhood education and curriculum. As a result, 15 categories and 50 subcategories under 4 themes were drawn through the procedures of qualitative analysis. The conclusions obtained through this study were the following: First, the education for multimedia application related to the tasks required in kindergartens is needed instead of the common education for multimedia application, to improve the ability to use multimedia for early childhood teachers. Second, multimedia education based on visual theory for the purpose of early childhood education, rather than common features-centered multimedia education, is helpful for the improvement of early childhood teachers' ability to use multimedia. Finally, the improvement of early childhood teachers' ability to use multimedia will be a chance to provide children with a better educational environment.

  • In this information-oriented society, the ability to manage and process the rapidly increasing amount of information has become an absolute requirement. Students of today must prepare for the challenges of the upcoming 21st century through developing skills in computers and by nurturing a creative mind and the aptitude to resolve problems. In terms of its pedagogical function and range and applicability, multimedia will surpass all other tools of education, owing to its flexibility and openness. This study provides actual case examples of the construction and utilization of the multimedia environment and proposes factors that must be considered in the construction of the multimedia environment.

  • This paper presents a PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) controller embedded in a multimedia processor, called FLOVA (FLOating point VLIW Architecture), targeting for 3D graphics applications. Fast I/O interfaces are essential for multimedia processors which usually handle large amount of multimedia data. Therefore, in FLOVA, PCI bus is adopted for I/O interface due to fast burst transaction. However, there are several problems in implementation and verification to use burst transaction of PCI. It is difficult to handle data transaction between two units which have two different operating frequency. FLOVA has more higher operating frequency about 100MHz than that of PCI local bus and it makes lower utilization of FLOVA bus. Also, traditional simulation is not sufficient for verification of PCI functionality. In this paper, we propose buffering schemes to implement the PCI controller with wide bandwidth and high bus utilization. Also, this paper shows how to verify the PCI controller using real PCI bus environments before its fabrication.

  • We developed a method for optimal superframe design in the multi-frequency time division multiple access (MF-TDMA) return-link of a satellite multimedia interactive network called a digital video broadcasting return channel over satellite (DVB-RCS) sub-network. To find the optimal superframe pattern with the maximum data throughput, we formulated the design problem as a non-linear combinatorial optimization problem. We also devised the proposed simple method so that it would have field applicability for improving radio resource utilization in the MF-TDMA return link.

Performance Analysis of Fair Packet Schedulers in Bandwidth Utilization (대역폭 이용도 측면에서 공정 패킷 스케줄러의 성능 분석)

  • When the latency of a flow in a fair packet scheduler, which is determined by its rate, violates its required delay bound, the scheduler should reduce the latency with even raising the rate being reserved for the flow. The excessively reserved rate win enforce some outgoing link bandwidth be lost. This loss can not be, unfortunately, evaluated by the three metrics of latency, fairness and implementation complexity used in previous works. This paper is aimed to first introduce the metric of bandwidth utilization to investigate the bandwidth loss in a scheduler and then evaluate the timestamp based schedulers in terms of the bandwidth and payload utilizations. The results show that the bandwidth utilization increases with loosing the required delay bound and, in particular, schedulers with the latency property of WFQ have much better payload utilization by up to 50% than that in the SCFQ one.

  • This thesis progressed research on the improvements of NCS multimedia utilization for preliminary teachers. A national module has not been developed yet in terms of child education, so this thesis suggests a curriculum according to the courses taught for freshmen and sophomores of K University Child Education majors. To lessen the burden of tremendous work and classes, provide motivation and interest in learning and maximize the effect, this thesis provides NCS based curriculum. It expects to improve task performance of teachers and help them with better skills to make class materials using up-to-date multimedia, regardless of the computer literacy of preliminary teachers. This thesis does prior research on the abilities to make use of computers and understand the level of computer literacy. Then it suggests NCS based curriculum goals and its performance standards to utilize task-suitable software. It aims to enable efficient multimedia usage, and optimize the learning efficiency of education linked to Nuri precesses.

  • Known as an important criterion that evaluates performance of future high-speed backbone networks, burst data loss ratio is well-studied in Optical Burst Switching networks. Current literatures mostly focus on reduce burst loss ratio without considering the system stability and link utilization after reducing. In this paper, we propose a novel framework which comes from feedback theoretic to dynamically control burst loss ratio in OBS. The proposed scheme tries to track the pre-set values of burst loss ratio and increases the stability and link utilization degree. The simulation results show that measured burst loss ratio always tracks setup reference with small errors, wavelength channel utilization is increased up to 2% and the system stability is also improved.

  • This paper proposes a resource management and allocation algorithm to guarantee QoS continuity of realtime multimedia services and to maximize the resource utilization in heterogeneous wireless networks simultaneously. This scheme reserves the appropriate resources to be used by real-time multimedia services and allocates those resources left unused due to decreased transmission rate of realtime services to non-realtime services. Those resources can be preempted by the need of realtime services later. Performances are analyzed by simulation.

  • This study is expected to discuss some methods regarding the uplift of user's use convenience and the efficiency of material management by constructing the multimedia database through the digitalization of the especial audiotape-typed materials among accompanying materials. In order to do that, this paper dealt with the present management conditions of accompanying materials, the sorts of audio data formats, data format transformation, the methods of administration and utilization, etc. And this paper also presented the expected effect and problems caused by multimedia databases construction of accompanying materials.

Hardware-Aware Rate Monotonic Scheduling Algorithm for Embedded Multimedia Systems

  • Many embedded multimedia systems employ special hardware blocks to co-process with the main processor. Even though an efficient handling of such hardware blocks is critical on the overall performance of real-time multimedia systems, traditional real-time scheduling techniques cannot afford to guarantee a high quality of multimedia playbacks with neither delay nor jerking. This paper presents a hardware-aware rate monotonic scheduling (HA-RMS) algorithm to manage hardware tasks efficiently and handle special hardware blocks in the embedded multimedia system. The HA-RMS prioritizes the hardware tasks over software tasks not only to increase the hardware utilization of the system but also to reduce the output jitter of multimedia applications, which results in reducing the overall response time.
