In multimedia service of Ubiquitous Home Environment(UHE), the requirements such as intelligent service that is executed automatically without direct order of user and fitted service compatible for each user and comfortable of user, interoperability of multimedia contents between incompatible devices will increase. Multimedia protection and management, authentication and authority administration methods that are suitable for above demands are also required. In this paper, we suggest authentication method suited for UHE and propose user oriented multimedia service(UHMS: Ubiquitous Home Multimedia Service) that provides the interoperability of multimedia between incompatible devices, conducts intelligently the context information (preference information, device information etc.) using sensor module and home server, provides and secure services.

Currently for the development of internet and network technology, since request of service for the large volume multimedia data has been more increased, multimedia users want the convenience and accuracy of multimedia service system about storing and retrieving of the multimedia contents. To satisfy the request of users, metadata management for the diverse information of multimedia contents is very important. However, the metadata management for the multimedia contents is difficult because the metadata standards are different each other for the type of multimedia data and service. In this paper, we propose the integration metadata management system structure which extends previous metadata management system based on text for the multimedia contents metadata which are expressed differently each other according to the multimedia data or service type.

Session Initiation Protocol(이하 SIP)은 H.323 network에서 제기된 문제점을 해결하고 다양한 multimedia service를 제공하기위해 IETF에서 정의된 protocol로서, 3GPP의 IP Multimedia Subsystem(이하 IMS)의 기반 protocol로 채택되었다. IMS는 multimedia service를 제공하기 위한 infrastructure로서 CSCF, HSS, MRF, MGCF, IM-GW등 기능적으로 분리된 여러 entity로 구성되며, 향후 추가될 다양한 부가 service에 유연하게 대처할 수 있는 Application Server(이하 AS) mechanism을 포함하고 있다. 현재 AS mechanism을 이용하여 3GPP규격 상에 정의된 대표적 서비스는 presence service이며, presence service network은 presence server, presence agent, presence proxy, watcher등으로 구성된다. 마지막으로 상기에 언급한 규격을 바탕으로 실제 구축된 Instant messaging/presence service network을 제시한다. ATM technology is reaching a certain level of maturity that allow for its deployment in local as well as in wide area networks. Concurrently, audiovisual applications are foreseen as one of the major users of such broadband networks. We present in this paper requriement of real-time multimedia service on B-ISDN networks and simulating the transport of MPEG-2 encoded multimedia data over ATM networks using CBR, VBR, ABR of ATM Traffic Service. We compare each delay time considering network performance and propose need for real-time multimedia service.

Our platform introduced in this paper is based on DAVIC specifications which define high quality multimedia services with some extensions to provide user friendly and uniform interface to its users. We designed and implemented an integrated service platform for high quality interactive multimedia services, swithed digital broadcasting, and Internet services. The integration in terms of a service provider system, a delivery system, and a service user system is taken into account. Our research results in the development of integrated high quality interactive and digital broadcasting multimedia services with web-based common user interface and its experience will be feedback to the field trial service which will be launched from next year.

Vehicle communication networks have some deficient network resources to support a vast multimedia service including safety driving information, video, news and some broadcast relayed from the playgrounds such as professional baseball games for autonomous vehicles. This paper deals with the framework for providing seamless multimedia service including safety driving information using multicast in cooperated-connected vehicle communication network (CVCN). It adopts smart-switch (SS) and smart intelligent multicast agent(SIMA) to support the seamless multimedia service. The SS manages and switches multimedia streams through SIMA in CVCN network. The SIMA to operate as an access point, is composed of multicast supporting part and control part of mobile devices/autonomous vehicles in CVCN network. Therefore this proposed technique using SS and SIMA within CVCN network is a new framework for multimedia service that can disperse the load of server.

Innovation on digital compression technology, high speed networking technology, digital broadcasting technology and distributed processing technology provides new interactive multimedia service that integrates telecommunication, broadcasting, and computer application. To meet the new trends, we focus our research direction to integrate the telecommunication services and the broadcasting services. For this purpose, we designed and implemented an interactive multimedia service platform based on the DAVIC specification. Our research results in the development of integrated interactive services and its experience will be feedback to the field trial service that will be launched from next year. In this paper, we will describe the overall architecture and system implementation results of the interactive multimedia service platform.

This paper describes a digital convergence platform(DCP) which is implemented based on the MPEG-21 multimedia framework. DCP is a newly proposed solution in this research for the convergence service of future home multimedia environment. DCP is a common platform designed to have the feature of reconfigurability, by means of S/W. which supports to run diverse digital multimedia services. A distributed peer to peer service and transaction model is also a new feature realized in DCP using the MPEG-21 multimedia framework. A prototype DCP is implemented to verify its functions of multimedia service and transactions. The developed DCPs are networked with IP clustering storage systems for the distributed service of multimedia. Successful streaming services of the MPEG-2/4 video and audio are verified with the implemented test-bed system of DCP.

Information superhighway and improvement of computing power result in increase of the requirements for distributed multimedia applications. But, developer of applications needs much time and efforts because of the difficulties of development, enhancement and maintenance of distributed applications. To solve this problem, CORBA is used widely. But, the definitions of CORBA services are required for the brief developments of distributed multimedia applications. Especially, collaboration service is required because multiple users use distributed multimedia service. Collaboration service manages user and group information of applications and makes the interoperability between of multi users. In this paper, we designed collaboration service for CORBA based distributed multimedia applications. Collaboration service is able to maintain group information and to present the ability for collaborative works between of multi users. Application developers can develop the applications easily because the ability of collaborative works is offered by collaboration service.

KORTASAT-III is planning to provide Ka-band broadband communication service, including eastsouth Asia area. In this paper, we calculate the link budget for Ka-band KOREASAT-III multimedia service and describe the performance of multimedia services according to link design parameters. There are Trunk service, Television receive only service, Two-way point-to-multipoint service, Tele-education service in the service scenario.
