According to the increasing interests of medical information services for healthy living, the multimedia authoring tools for medical information service contents are strongly required. In this paper, a new multimedia authoring tool supporting user-friendly interfaces is implemented, which is based on SMIL(Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) producing Web-based multimedia contents. The implemented authoring tool in this paper not only provides functionalities to play, verify and modify the partial contents immediately but also offers capabilities to insert multimedia objects into contents with ease. The multimedia contents containing disparate healthcare and medical information can be easily designed with this tool. The enhanced usability of this tool can contribute to the realization of diverse medical information services.

This paper examines approaches to the development of algorithms of parametric identification of models of complex systems from discrete observations. A modification of a known algorithm Kaczmarz which is designed for closed systems with perturbations, based on the methods of random search and investigates their statistical properties.

Digital vector maps must be compressed effectively for transmission or storage in Web GIS (geographic information system) and mobile GIS applications. This paper presents a polyline compression method that consists of polyline feature-based hybrid simplification and second derivative-based data compression. Experimental results verify that our method has higher simplification and compression efficiency than conventional methods and produces good quality compressed maps.

Recently, game companies are having difficulties in exactly figuring out the right consumer groups for their games. To solve this problem, a system algorithm which recommends user-customized games based on the user information entered has been proposed in this study. Game developers will be able to clearly determine the consumer group(s) of both on and off-line games through accumulated data while consumers can find the game they desire. It is expected that the gaming culture will advance further with the proposed algorithm.

We have implemented an interactive multimedia education system for C programming. The system consists of two pars. One is multimedia contents to help students better understand C language syntax, programming style, and program logic and the other is a web-based compilation support system that compiles C programs at the server side which are submitted trough Web by students and returns their execution results to the students' PC. Although there are currently some restrictions that students should replace the inputs functions such as scanf(), getc() and getch() with assignment statements or fscanf(fp, , ), since the system has been implemented using general web technologies and shareware C compiler, the education system could be one solution that education institutions seek to reduce annual immense expenditure of money on C complier.

The sailors on seagoing ships experience much difficulty in communicating with their families, friends or associates ashore due to communication cost or technical difficulties so that they are sometimes unable to adapt to the rapid social changes promptly. This is mainly the result of an insufficient Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-environment on their ships. To surmount such a problem, an electronic shipboard voting system that guarantees the publicness and absolute secrecy in voting process has been proposed in this paper. The system not only helps crews to catch up with up-to-date news and provides them a feeling that they are being connected to the everyday lives of the outside world, but also allows them to cast their votes based on the newly acquired information (e.g., current political or economic situations in their respective regions and etc.).

This paper describes a direct transfer method of multimedia data stream between multimedia processor and network device without using system memory. The hardware architecture and functions for direct transfer, the method to transfer multimedia data to and from the multimedia processor and etc are described. Comparing the proposed method with general methods, I show that the direct transfer method can decrease number of bus accesses and bus cycles.

This paper explains a system that is suitable for detecting software error running on multimedia distance control for transportation safety environment. This system consists of an ED, and ES. ED is an agent that detects an error by hooking techniques for multimedia distance education based on IP-USN gateway software stack environment. ES is an agent that is an error sharing system for multimedia distance control based on IP-USN gateway software stack environment. From the perspective of multimedia collaborative environment, an error application becomes another interactive presentation error is shared with participants engaged in a cooperative work.
