Layered structure of the Korean terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (TDMB) transmission system for multimedia broadcasting service is presented in this paper. We made a switching module which is called the Ensemble Remultiplexer. It is designed to remultiplex the Ensemble Transport Interface (ETI) for T-DMB service. This paper describes the remultiplexing process of the Ensemble Remultiplexer.

기존에는 웹 환경에서 정보를 전달하기 위해 고정된 미디어들 위주로 표현하였지만, 최근 웹이 상업화, 대중화, 멀티미디어화 됨에 따라 정보를 효과적으로 전달하기 위해서는 정보를 미디어들이 결합된 연속적인 멀티미디어로 표현되어야 한다. 이러한 미디어들간의 통합 작업에서 요구되는 것이 미디어들 간의 동기화이다. 본 논문에서는 웹 환경에서 연속적인 멀티미디어를 작성하고, 재생할 수 있는 웹 기반의 멀티미디어 시스템(Multimedia System on the Web:MSW)을 설계하고, 멀티미디어의 모델링과 미디어들 간의 동기화를 위하여 MPNW(Multimedia Petri Net on the Web)을 제안한다.

본 논문에서는 여러 개의 디스크를 클러스트화한 메시지 전송 기반의 병렬 멀티미디어 파일 시스템(PMFS: Parallel Multimedia File System)을 제안하고 설계, 구현하였다. 본 논문에서 구현한 PMFS는 이식성, 유연성 그리고 확장성을 고려한 멀티미디어 데이터를 지원하는 병렬 파일 시스템으로 2계층 분산 클러스트 구조에 적합하다. 그리고 제어 메시지와 TCP를 기반으로 서버들간에 통신을 하고 다양한 방법의 데이터 배치 기법을 제공한다. PMFS의 성능 평가 결과 데이터들이 임의 시작 블록과 DIS배치 기법으로 저장된 경우 가장 좋은 성능을 보였다.

This paper proposes an XML based Multimedia Annotation and Retrieval System, which can represent and retrieve video data efficiently using XML. The system provides a graphical user interface for annotating, searching, and browsing multimedia data. It is Implemented based on the hierarchical metadata model to represent multimedia information. The metadata about video is organized based on multimedia description schema using XML Schema that basically conforms to the MPEG-7 standard. Also, for the effective indexing and retrieval of multimedia data, video segments are annotated and categorized using the closed caption.

The e-learning system uses multimedia content for efficiency of a education and learner's convenience. With the web based e-learning, various multimedia services are difficult on account of physical factors such as network state and system performance. Also on the off line based e-learning, we have defects an insufficiency of interactions among learners and instructors, and an insufficiency of an adaptation about the latest information. In this study, we designed a multi-tier e-learning system using hybrid multimedia method, The proposed system can provide interaction and adaptability such as web based systems, and it can provide various multimedia content such as off line based systems. In experiments results, we know the proposed system improved users' convenience and an adaptability about the latest information, and interactions among learners and instructors when compare with existing e-learning system.

Video data occurred in multimedia documents consist of a large scale of irregular data including audio-visual, spatial-temporal, and semantic information. In general, it is difficult to grasp the exact meaning of such a video information because video data apparently consist of unmeaningful symbols and numerics. In order to relieve these difficulties, it is necessary to develop an integrated manager for complex structures of video data and provide users of video digital libraries with easy, systematic access mechanisms to video informations. This paper proposes a generic integrated video information model(GIVIM) based on an extended Dublin Core metadata system to effectively store and retrieve video documents in digital libraries. The GIVIM is an integrated mo이 of a video metadata model(VMN) and a video architecture information model(VAIM). We also present design and implementation results of a video document management system(VDMS) based on the GIVIM.

For the remarkable enhancement of high-speed rail passenger services, a system which provides various multimedia contents and Internet search functions was designed. The system gets inputs from a passenger and displays various multimedia contents on the touch sensitive LCD panel attached on a passenger seat. This kind of service is new in Korea and not easy to find in other countries, either. In this paper, we presented a design of a system which provides not only one-way broadcasting services but also searching capability of various information interactively. Informations to be provided are train schedule, transfer information, tour information, E-books, movies, music, ets. Successful completion of the system development in the following years is expected to strengthen international competitiveness of Korean railway industry.

In the near future it is foreseen that a genuine multimedia service over the WiMAX system is provided in a worldwide manner by exploiting the QoS technologies introduced in the wireless and wired broadband network. In this work we propose a pricing scheme for the multimedia service over the generic WiMAX system that supports a full QoS functionality. We assume real-time services such as the voice and video as well as the nonreal-time service such as the conventional high-speed data, and we propose a pricing and charging scheme for those services by investigating the inherent characteristics of those services and the multiple-class of QoS-service provided to them. After that we propose a method to compute expected revenue that is obtained from the WiMAX system by using an analytic method to estimate the usage of the bandwidth resources for the different class of services. Via numerical experiment, we verify the implication of the work.

Information management area faced new challenge arised from the developments of the computer and the information network, and the advent of information super highway. This paper intends to describe the concept and function of the digital library, and to examine some of information technologies such as CD-ROM, OCR technology and image scanning, hypertext, hypermedia and multimedia. And it also considers the strategies for electronic information services and the applicability of the current information technology for digitalization by case studies of the existing database systems.

Contrary to ubiquitous environments, indoor computing environments like home network doesn't support user mobility. This paper suggests UPnP A/V multimedia system using prediction of mobility for adaption of seamless multimedia service. The multimedia system enables indoor mobile users to play multimedia contents by transferring the current session to an adjacent device automatically. The system represents users' contextual information by Five Ws and One H model, and predicts user's movements by using contextual information and transitions of locations. The prediction basically includes multiple locations so that it improves accuracy of prediction. We evaluated the suggested system using in accuracy of prediction, time for prediction, handover time for service, and the system showed that adapt ion of seamless multimedia service was enabled by using prediction of mobility on mobile user.
