  • With the continuous growth of a number of high-quality multimedia services for handheld devices, the lack of power resources becomes an increasingly critical issue. One of the ways to overcome existing problem is to make multimedia data processing more efficient. In order to do that this paper introduces a video streaming application for Android platform which, while being used along with offloading technique, may provide an efficient progressive download service for user devices along with relief of media servers.

  • This study investigates design strategies for improving the educational quality of multimedia contents for early childhood education. It emphasizes both traditional education theory and developmental aspects in its exploration of interactive and educational qualitative multimedia contents for early children. Accordingly, for an effective early childhood education, it is necessary to experience of the playful learning for the conception of ideas and the understanding of the social life. Because this study 1) possibility of multimedia contents for early childhood education, 2) computer application method for early childhood education, 3) examines used in the designing of multimedia contents for early childhood education according to traditional education theory. Multimedia early childhood education system is possible to organize information such as test, image, sound and video based on hyperlink system. I use Microsoft's Ms-office and Asymetrix's ToolBook software that are useful for hyperlink and parameter. Multimedia contents and other pages are used by Dynamic Data Exchange(DDE). Therefore multimedia contents for early childhood education is a useful tool for students of early childhood education department, parents, and children.

  • With recent progress of related multimedia computing technologies, it is necessay to retrieve diverse types of multimedia data based on multi-media content and their relationships. However, different from alphanumeric data, it is difficult to provide relevant multimedia information, be-cause multimedia contents and their relationships are implied in multimedia data. Therefore, in case of a multimedia news service system that is a representative multimedia application, most of new services provide relevant news about text articles and retrieval of multimedia news such as video news or image news are provided independently. In this paper, we present an XML-based multimedia news management system, which provides integrating, retrieval, and delivery of relevant multimedia news. Our data model composed of media object, relationship object, and view object represents diverse types of multimedia news content and semantically related multimedia news. In addition, a proposed view mechanism makes it possible to customize multimedia news, and therefore provides multimedia news efficiently.

  • 본 논문은 다양한 멀티미디어 응용을 위한 재구성가능(reconfigurable) 구조의 프로세서 설계에 대해서 연구하였다. 설계된 프로세서는 RISC 코어 프로세서와 코스-그레인(coarse-grain) 구조의 재구성가능 셀들의 배열로 이루어진 처리 유닛으로 구성되었다. 여기서 사용된 RISC 코어 프로세서는 하드웨어 구조를 간단히 하기 위하여 MIPS 명령어들 중에서 사용빈도가 높은 것들만 고려하였으며, 재구성가능 처리를 위한 별도의 명령어를 추가하였다. 본 논문에서 제시한 재구성가능 프로세서는 VHDL로 모델링하여 실행을 검증하였으며, 하드웨어의 유연성을 증가하여 다양한 멀티미디어 응용에 적용함과 아울러 속도향상에 기여함을 볼 수 있었다.

  • This paper is the introduction of our work on distributed load scheduling in single-level tree network. In this paper, we derive a new calculation model in single-level tree network and show a closed-form formulation of the time for computation system. There are so many examples of the application of this technology such as distributed database, biology computation on genus, grid computing, numerical computing, video and audio signal processing, etc.

  • For applications in multimedia to which genuine RISC microprocessors are not suitably applicable, a new generation of fast and flexible microprocessors is required. In this paper, as a technique of integrating DSP functionality in a general RISC processor, a RISC that can execute DSP extension instructions is developed to improve the performance of multimedia application execution. This processor can execute DSP instructions in parallel with the execution of ALU instructions for efficient and fast execution. In addition, the execution ability of integer instructions is improved by enhancing the RISC core itself.

  • 현재 해외뿐만 아니라 국내에서도 큐레이션 서비스가 활발히 운영중이다. 폭발적으로 증가한 어플리케이션 마켓 시장에서 사용자들은 자신에게 맞는 앱을 찾고 설치하기 어려워지고 있다. 이에 대응하여 본 논문에서는 어플리케이션 큐레이션 서비스인 Appingpot 시스템을 제안한다. Appingpot에서는 사용자들로부터 수집된 앱 로그데이터와 Facebook 친구 정보를 기반으로 Hadoop과 Spark를 통해 사용자들에게 적합한 앱을 추천하는 서비스를 제공한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 SMS(Short Message Service)로부터 발전하여 WAP(Wireless Application Prorocol)을 이용한 픽처 메시지 및 간단한 에니메이션 서비스의 단계를 지나 데이터의 포맷이나 형식을 가리지 않는 멀티미디어 데이터 정보를 메시징할 수 있는 서비스 센터의 구현에 관한 내용을 기술한다. MMS(Multimedia Messaging Service)기술은 IS-95C 및 IMT-2000에서 통신 속도가 빨라짐에 따라서 발생할 수 있는 여러 서비스 중의 하나로 기존의 메시징 시스템의 한계를 극복하고 보다 크고 다양한 정보를 전달할 수 있는 인프라 역할을 하면서 더욱 새로운 서비스를 만들어 낼 수 있을 것이다.

Teaching a Database Course with Collaborative Team Projects

  • This paper describes and effective teaching approach to an undergraduate database course. This research draws on practical experience based on the hands-on practice approach which leads students to develop a database application utilizing various tools. Students not only learn concepts, methodologies and tools of database technology in class and through online multimedia learning aids, but also practice how to integrate them through collaborative team projects. The course employs collaborative learning approach and multimedia and internet technologies. Students are encouraged to work collaboratively on assignments and projects and to learn independently through online multimedia learning aids.
