  • A new idea of the wavelength locking module for DWDM application was investigated in the present research. Only one etalon photo-diode is generally used in the internal/external wavelength locking system. For the internal wavelength locking module with 50 GHz applications, an algle tuning method of the etalon commonly applied. However, the alignment process of the etalon with the angle tuning method is limited because the lock performance is extremely sensitive accoriding to the change of the tilting angle. In an optical viewpoint, the alignment tolerance of the locker module with the etalon PD array block was good, and the precise tuning of the wavelength was possible. The characteristics of free spectral range (FSR) and peak shift of wavelength according to the tilting angle with the locker module was investigated. For the present module, the optimized initial tilting angle was experimentally obtained.

  • The Hiroshima Astrophysical Science Center (HASC) was founded in 2004 at Hiroshima University, Japan. The main mission of this institute is the observational study of various transient objects including gamma-ray bursts, supernovae, novae, cataclysmic variables, and active galactic nuclei by means of multi-wavelength observations. HASC consists of three divisions; the optical-infrared astronomy division, high-energy astronomy division, and theoretical astronomy division. HASC is operating the 1.5m optical-infrared telescope Kanata, which is dedicated to follow-up and monitoring observations of transient objects. The high-energy division is the key operation center for the Fermi gamma-ray space telescope. HASC and the high-energy astronomy group in the department of physical science at Hiroshima University are closely collaborating with each other to promote multi-wavelength time-domain astronomy. We report the recent activities of HASC and some science topics pursued by this multi-wavelength collaboration.

  • How does the presence of an AGN influence the total SFR estimates of galaxies and change their distribution with respect to the Galaxy Main Sequence? To contribute to solving this question, we study a sample of 1133 sources detected in the North Ecliptic Pole field (NEP) by AKARI and Herschel. We create a multi-wavelength dataset for these galaxies and we fit their multi-wavelength Spectral Energy Distribution (SED) using the whole spectral regime (from 0.1 to $500{\mu}m$). We perform the fit using three procedures: LePhare and two optimised codes for identifying AGN tracers from the SED analysis. In this work we present an overview of the comparison between the estimates of the Infrared bolometric luminosities (between 8 and $1000{\mu}m$) and the AGN fractions obtained exploiting these different procedures. In particular, by estimating the AGN contribution in four different wavelength ranges ($5-40{\mu}m$, $10-20{\mu}m$, $20-40{\mu}m$ and $8-1000{\mu}m$) we show how the presence of an AGN affects the PAH emission by suppressing the ratio $\frac{L_{8{\mu}m}}{L_{4.5{\mu}m}}$ as a function of the considered wavelength range.

  • The optical system of lens must be designed to tramsmit light over wide wavelength range and to have lower reflectivity in order to obtain higher spectral transmittance. However, the reflection color light appears due to the remain-reflection light in any optical system of lens. The wavelength of the reflection color light can be controlled by the structure of the number of layers, thickness of layer, reflective index, wavelength of incidence, and substrate etc. In the optical systems of the single layer and the double layers, the reflection color light appears in the condition of the anti-reflection of ${\lambda}s/{\lambda}$ = 1.0 by the color mixture of the remain-reflection lights in the ranges of the longer wavelength side and the shorter one of the ${\lambda}s/{\lambda}$ = 1.0, and of the double layers and triple layers, the reflection color light positioned at P1 < ${\lambda}s/{\lambda}$ < P2 appears in the condition of the antireflection of ${\lambda}s/{\lambda}$ = $PI{\ll}1$ and $P2{\gg}1$. In the optical system of the multi-layers, many antireflection points are existed at the various s/ values, and the reflection color light by the color mixture of the remain-reflection lights in the ranges except for the antireflection points.

  • Transmittance and resistivity is investigated according to bending of ITO (indium tin oxide)film with four other multi-barrier film. Transmission data of ITO film with four ITO films showed there was about large 90% transmission above 550 nm wavelength at three multi-barrier structures. But, both -side hard coated structure showed relatively low 75% transmission above 550 nm wavelength. Also, resistivity change of four other multi-barrier film showed there was the lowest change at oneside hard coated structure. Subsequently, with result of resistivity change according to position, it was known the resistivity change of the center increased rapidly than that of the edge.

  • To set up the arrays system of FBG(Fiber Bragg Grating) Hydrophone sensor and realize the multi-point signal detection for the wide scope underwater, using WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) method and Passive band-pass filter system, underwater acoustic signal detection of the newly designed two FBG Transducers is successfully experimented. As a result of the experiment, it was possible each signal with different frequent signals is detected for the multi-point up to 1.3KHz in underwater. We can, therefore, prove the possibility on the system design of Hydrophone sensor arrays, using the newly made FBG Transducers.

  • Polarimetric measurements of the sky radiation by the PSR-I000, which is the multi-spectral polarimeter developed by the Opt Research Corporation and has the same wavelength regions (443nm, 490nm, 565nm, 670nm, 765nm and 865nm) as the ADEOSII/POLDER sensor, have been carried out at the ground station in Kanazawa city, Japan from March to May. First of all, the wavelength dependency of degrees of polarization is examined and it is shown that degrees of polarization measured under the hazy dust cloud are lower than those measured in the clear sky and decrease as the wavelength increases. Next, a new method for estimating optical properties, such as the optical thickness, the number size distribution and the refractive index, of the Asian dust and the ground reflectance from degrees of polarization measured by PSR-I000 is described. Finally, this method is applied to polarization data acquired on April 15,2002. As a result, it is shown that our estimation algorithm provides a good result.

  • The most important factor in enhancing the performance of an optical device is to minimize reflection and increasing transmittance of light for a broad wavelength range. The choice of appropriate coating material is crucial in decreasing reflection losses at the substrate. The purpose of this review is to highlight anti-reflection coating (ARC) materials that can be applied to silicon solar cell and glass substrate for minimizing reflection losses. The optical and electrical behavior of ARC on a substrate is highly dependent on thickness and refractive index (RI) of ARC films that are being deposited on it. The coating techniques and performance of single and multi-layered ARC films after coated on a substrate in a wide range of wavelength spectrum will be studied in the paper.
