In this letter, we propose an efficient near-optimal detection scheme (that makes use of a generalized sphere decoder (GSD)) for blind multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) systems. In practical MU-MIMO systems, a receiver suffers from interference because the precoding matrix, the result of the precoding technique used, is quantized with limited feedback and is thus imperfect. The proposed scheme can achieve near-optimal performance with low complexity by using a GSD to detect several additional interference signals. In addition, the proposed scheme is suitable for use in blind systems.

In multi-user MIMO systems, a base station transmits multiple data to multi-user simultaneously in order to improve performance and bandwidth efficiency. When the base station transmits multiple data to multi-user simultaneously, multi-user interference occurs severely. In this paper, we define a post-processing leakage as the total power leaked from desired user to all other users after combining at the output of each user. Using concept of the post-processing leakage, we also define a performance metric, the so called signal-to-post-processing-leakage-plus-noise ratio (SPPLNR). Assuming that the receiver is the minimum mean square error (MMSE) receiver, we propose an iterative SPPLNR-based beamforming that determines beamforming vectors and combining vectors by using an iterative method. The proposed scheme does not impose a condition on the relation between the number of transmit antennas for the base station and the number of receive antennas for users. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms a beamforming scheme perfectly eliminating the multi-user interference when channel estimation error exists.

In this paper, the new multi-beamforming is proposed for Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Multicarrier-Code division multiple access(MC-CDMA) systems to overcome the decrease of performance due to multiuser interference and multiple-antenna interference. Installing the number of multi-beamformer which is equal to the number of multi-transmitter antennas and exploiting the proposed approach at the receiver of MIMO MC-CDMA, the multi-beams are formed toward each multi-antenna of desired user and null beam are formed to other interference. Therefore, the performance of MIMO MC-CDMA system is improved as removing the interference signal. BER performance improvement is investigated through computer simulation by the proposed approach to MIMO MC-CDMA system.

In this paper, we propose the adaptive beamforming algorithm for the MIMO (Multi-Input Multi-Out)-OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Access)system to improve the performance. The performance of MIMO-OFDMA systems is greatly decreased in the wireless channel environment with multiusers, because the received signals are much distorted by a cochannel interference (CCI) during the space-time decoding. The proposed approach can track the DOA of each signal from the multiple antennas of the desired user without being greatly dependent on the impinging angle. And beams are directed toward the multiple transmitters of the desired user while null beams are directed toward interference directions. Therefore, we can can effectively cancel CCI and mitigate the impairment of delay spread while preserving the STC(space time code) diversity. BER performance improvement is investigated through computer simulation by applying the proposed approach to MIMO-OFDMA system in a multipath fading channel with CCI.
Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication may provide high spectral efficiency through the deployment of a very large number of antenna elements at the base stations. The gains from massive MIMO communication come from the use of multi-user MIMO on the uplink and downlink, but with a large excess of antennas at the base station compared to the number of served users. Initial work on massive MIMO did not fully address several practical issues associated with its deployment. This paper considers the impact of channel aging on the performance of massive MIMO systems. The effects of channel variation are characterized as a function of different system parameters assuming a simple model for the channel time variations at the transmitter. Channel prediction is proposed to overcome channel aging effects. The analytical results on aging show how capacity is lost due to time variation in the channel. Numerical results in a multicell network show that massive MIMO works even with some channel variation and that channel prediction could partially overcome channel aging effects.

In this paper, we propose a distributed user scheduling with transmit power control based on the amount of generating interference to other base stations (BSs) in multi-cell multi-input multi-output (MIMO) networks. Assuming that the time-division duplexing (TDD) system is used, the interference channel from users to other cell BSs is obtained at each user. In the proposed scheduling, each user first generates a transmit beamforming vector by using singular value decompositon (SVD) over MIMO channels and reduces the transmit power if its generating interference to other BSs is larger than a predetermined threshold. Each BS selects the user with the largest effective channel gains among users, which reflects the adjusted power of users. Simulation results show that the proposed technique significantly outperforms the existing user scheduling algorithms.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive coordinated Tx-Rx beamforming scheme for inter-user interference cancellation, when a BS communicates with multiple users that each has multiple receive antenna. The conventional coordinated Tx-Rx beamforming scheme uses a fixed multi-stream per user regardless of the instantaneous channel states, that is, both user with ill-conditioned and well-conditioned channels have the same number of data streams. However, in the proposed adaptive coordinated Tx-Rx beamforming scheme, we select the number of streams per user to solve the inefficient problem of the conventional coordinated Tx-Rx beamforming. As a result of applying the adaptive coordinated Tx-Rx beamforming scheme, the BER performance is improved. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional coordinated Tx-Rx beamforming algorithm by 2.5dB at a target BER of $10^{-2}$.

Recently, a multi-user massive MIMO (MU-Massive MIMO) network has been attracting tremendous interest as one of technologies to accommodate explosively increasing mobile data traffic. The MU-Massive MIMO network can significantly enhance the network capacity because a base station (BS) equipped with large-scale transmit antennas can transmit high-rate data to multiple users simultaneously. In the MU-Massive MIMO network, transmit antenna selection schemes are generally used to decrease the computational complexity and cost of the BS. In this paper, we investigate the energy efficiency of the transmit antenna selection scheme in the MU-Massive MIMO network and the optimal number of selected transmit antennas for maximizing the energy efficiency.

Multiple antenna technique is attracting attention as a core technology for next-generation mobile communication systems to accommodate explosively increasing mobile data traffic. Especially, recent researches focus on multi-user multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO) system where base stations are equipped with several tens of transmit antennas and transmit data to multiple terminals (users) simultaneously. To enhance the performance of MU-MIMO systems, we, in this paper, propose an adaptive user selection algorithm which adaptively selects a user set according to varying channel states. According to Monte-Carlo based computer simulations, the performance of proposed scheme is significantly improved compared to the conventional scheme without user selection and approaches that of exhaustive search-based optimal scheme. On the other hand, the proposed scheme can reduce the computational complexity to $K/(2^K-1)$ compared to the optimal scheme where K denotes the number of total users.

In multi-hop communication systems, two-way relaying is one of the solutions to mitigate the spectral efficiency loss caused by a half-duplex transmission. In this paper, a simple two-way relaying scheme is proposed for two-hop two-user multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems. In the proposed system, a base station and a relay station (RS), both equipped with two antennas, form a point-to-point MIMO channel, while the RS and two single-antenna mobile users form a point-to-multipoint multiuser (MU)-MIMO channel. Numerical examples show that the proposed system achieves a significant sum rate gain as compared to a one-way relaying system as the distance between a relay and the two users decreases. We also show that although we can expand the proposed scheme to more than two users, its performance gain as compared to that of one-way relaying decreases with an increase in the number of users.
