  • This study was carried out to investigate the suitable place for growth by analyzing the ecological environment of multi-use tree species to be spontaneous in Chungbuk Province, and derive the suitable place for forestation. At the test of the independence of multi-use tree species, as the significant correlation of the other tree species except Quercus acutissima - Zanthoxylum schinifolium was different by the survey location, it is concluded that the share relation of the ecological niche among tree species is largely influenced not only by the affinity of tree species but the growth environment. As the result of the correlation analysis between environment factors and tree clusters, it was analyzed that tree clusters were much influenced by the topography and the altitude among the variable environment factors; the topography, altitude, the direction of hillside, the slope and the number of tree species appearing. It was investigated that the cluster of Acer mono - Betula costata was distributed to the valley from low hillside to have high altitude, and the clusters of Kalopanax pictus - Ulmus davidiana var. japonica and Fraxinus rhynchophylla - Rhus trichocarpa were sporadically distributed to broad location because their geographical adaptation powers are high.

  • Ever since the R-tree was proposed to index multi-dimensional data, many efforts have been made to improve its query performances. One common trend to improve query performance is to parallelize query processing with the use of multi-core architectures. To this end, a GPU-base R-tree has been recently proposed. However, even though a GPU-based R-tree can exhibit an improvement in query performance, it is limited in its ability to handle large volumes of data because GPUs have limited physical memory. To address this problem, we propose MGR-tree (Multi-GPU R-tree), which can manage large volumes of data by dividing nodes into multiple GPUs. Our experiments show that MGR-tree is up to 9.1 times faster than a sequential search on a GPU and up to 1.6 times faster than a conventional GPU-based R-tree.

  • Recently, It has been increased to use a multi-dimensional data in various applications with a rapid growth of the computing environment. In this paper, we propose the vector approximate tree for content-based retrieval of multi-dimensional data. The proposed index structure reduces the depth of tree by storing the many region information in a node because of representing region information using space partition based method and vector approximation method. Also it efficiently handles 'dimensionality curse' that causes a problem of multi-dimensional index structure by assigning the multi-dimensional data space to dynamic bit. And it provides the more correct regions by representing the child region information as the parent region information relatively. We show that our index structure outperforms the existing index structure by various experimental evaluations.

  • WMN is one of efficient solutions to provide Internet services for users by forming wireless backbone networks with wireless links. The dominant technology for WMNs is the IEEE 802.11, which provides multi-channel and multi-rate capabilities. One of important issues in WMNs is the network capacity and it is essential to design a multi-channel protocol that leverages the network capacity. However, when wireless links that use different data rates operate on the common channel, the performance of high-rate links is severely degraded by the presence of the low-rate links, which is often referred as performance anomaly. In this paper, we propose a Tree-based Channel Assignment (TreeCA) protocol to mitigate the performance anomaly problem by distributing data rates over multiple channels. TreeCA performs channel assignments based on the tree WMN architecture to accommodate the Internet traffics efficiently. Parent nodes on the tree distribute their child nodes over multiple channels so that the performance anomaly is reduced. Through simulations, we observed that the proposed TreeCA outperforms the existing multi-channel protocols for WMNs.

  • Among the multi-dimensional query types, ranking query is needed if we want the object one by one until we satisfy for the result. In multi-dimensional indexing structures like R-tree or its variants, not many methods are introduced in this area. In this paper, we introduce new ranking query processing algorithm which use the filtering mechanism in the R-tree variants.

  • A new decision tree generator MEC is proposed in this paper, which uses the difference of multi-base entropy as a consistent criterion for discretization and selection of attributes. To evaluate the performance of the proposed generator, it is compared to other generators which use criteria based on entropy and adopt different discretization styles. As an experimental result, it is shown that the proposed generator produces the most efficient classifiers, which have the least number of leaves at the same error rate, regardless of whether attribute values constituting the training set are discrete or continuous.

  • In this research, a multi-tree coder at 9.6Kbits/sec using a novel scheme for adaptation of the short-term coefficients is developed. The overall delay of the tree coder is maintained at 2.5 msec(16 samples at the 6.4KHz sampling frequency). This coder produces good quality speech over ideal channels, and it is very robust to channel errors up to a bit error rate (BER) of $10^{-3}$. This robustness is achieved by using a parallel adaptation scheme in combination with the use of a smoothed version of the received excitation sequence for adaptation of the short-term prediction coefficients. For the multi-tree coder, reconstructed output speech is evaluated using signal-to-quantization noise ratios (SNR), segmental SNRs, and informal listening tests.

  • NAND flash systems require deletion operation and do not support in-place update, so the storage systems should use Flash Translation Layer (FTL). However, there are a lot of memory consumptions using mapping table in the FTL, so recently, many studies have been proposed to resolve mapping table overhead. These studies try to solve update propagation problem in the nand flash system which does not use mapping table. In this paper, we present a novel index structure, called CL-Tree(Cache List Tree), to solve the update propagation problem. The proposed index structure reduces write operations which occur for an update propagation, and it has a good performance for search operation because it uses multi-list structure. In experimental evaluation, we show that our scheme yields about 173% and 179% improvement in insertion speed and search speed, respectively, compared to traditional B+tree and other works.

  • In this paper, we propose a multi-label classification method in which multi-label classification estimation techniques are applied to resolving location prediction problem. Most of previous studies related to location prediction have focused on the use of single-label classification by using contextual information such as user's movement paths, demographic information, etc. However, in this paper, we focused on the case where users are free to visit multiple locations, forcing decision-makers to use multi-labeled dataset. By using 2373 contextual dataset which was compiled from college students, we have obtained the best results with classifiers such as bagging, random subspace, and decision tree with the multi-label classification estimation methods like binary relevance(BR), binary pairwise classification (PW).

  • Open space planners and designers should consider scientific and quantified functions of trees when they have to locate where to plant the tree. However, until now, most planners and designers could not consider them because of lack of tool for considering scientific and quantitative tree functions. This study introduces a tree location supporting tool which focuses on the multi-objective including scientific function using ACO (Ant colony optimization). We choose shading effect (scientific function), shielding, and openness as objectives for test application. The results show that when the user give a high weight to a particular objective, they can obtain the optimal results with high value of that objective. When we allocate higher weight for the shading effect, the tree plans provide larger shadow value. Even when compared with current tree plan, the study result has a larger shading effect plan. This result will reduce incident radiation to the ground and make thermal friendly open space in the summer. If planners and designers utilize this tool and control the objectives, they would get diverse optimal tree plans and it will allow them to make use of the many environmental benefits from trees.
