In this paper, we propose closures for multi-phase flow models, which satisfy boundary conditions and conservation constraints. The models governing the evolution of the fluid mixing are derived by applying an ensemble averaging procedure to the microphysical equations characterized by distinct phases. We consider compressible multi species multi-phase flow with surface tension and transport.
Secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) was fascinated by a quantitative analysis and a depth profiling and it was convinced of a in-depth analysis of multi-layer films. Precision determination of the interfaces of multi-layer films is important for conversion from the original SIMS depth profiling to the compositional depth profiling and the investigation of structure of multi-layer films. However, the determining of the interface between two kinds of species of the SIMS depth profile is distorted from original structure by the several effects due to sputtering with energetic ions. In this study, the feasibility of 50 atomic % definition for the determination of interface between two kinds of species in SIMS depth profiling of multilayer films was investigated by Si/Ge and Ti/Si multi-layer films. The original SIMS depth profiles were converted into compositional depth profiles by the relative sensitivity factors from Si-Ge and Si-Ti alloy reference films. The atomic compositions of Si-Ge and Si-Ti alloy films determined by Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS).

Shrimps infected with WSSV(White Spot Syndrome Virus) generally exhibit white spots in their inner space of carapaces as an acute clinical sign. In an effort to identify the correlation between this acute clinical sign and the condition, the index factors (RNA/DNA concentration and ratio, trypsin activity) were analyzed. A total 580 farmed Fenneropenaeus chinensis and 130 Lithopenaeus vannamei were collected from western and southern fifteen outdoor ponds in Korea. The status of the white spot pathology was divided into four stages (stage 0, stage I, stage II, and stage III), in accordance with the clinical signs as to the size and area of white spots. A significant decrease in RNA concentration and RNA/DNA ratio for multi-infected fleshy prawn (WSSV and vibrio sp.) occurred during the stage III (the whole carapace is covered with a white spot). In particular, RNA/DNA ratio was significantly lower as $1.47{\pm}0.04$ than other groups. A similar trend was also found in the single infection (WSSV), but the decrease was less than the multi-infection. In the species comparison, both species were vulnerable to the multi-infection, but L. vannamei was more sensitive than F. chinensis(ANOVA, p<0.05): A significant decrease in RNA concentration and RNA/DNA ratio was first found in stage II for the former species, while it was found in stage III for the latter species. Trypsin activity was also showed a similar tendency with nucleic acid variation. Multi-infected shrimp showed drastically decrease of trypsin activity. According to the results, clinical signs of the white spot under carapace have an only physiological effect on shrimp if they covered entirely with white spots.
Karyotype analysis and chromosomal localization of 5S and 45S rDNAs using multi-color fluorescence in situ hybridization (McFISH) technique were carried out in two Angelica species. The numbers of diploid chromosomes were the same in two same in two species as 2n=22, however the lengths of chromosomes were varied from 4.25 to 6.50 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in A gigas and 4.95 to 8.50 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in A acutiloba. The chromosomes of A. gigas were composed of five metacentric and six submetacentric pairs, while those of A. acutiloba were six metacentic, one submetacentric and four subtelocentric paris. In FISH experiments, the numbers and size of 45S rDNA signals were varied between two species, however dach signal of the 5S rDNA was observed in two species.

Aquaculture is one of the fastest growing food producing sectors; however, intensive farming techniques of finfish have raised environmental concerns, especially through the release of excessive nutrients into surrounding waters. Biodiversity has been widely shown to enhance ecosystem functions and services, but there has been limited testing or application of this key ecological relationship in aquaculture. This study tested the applicability of the biodiversity-function relationship to integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA), asking whether species richness can enhance the efficiency of macroalgal bioremediation of wastewater from finfish aquaculture. Five macroalgal species (Chondrus crispus, Fucus serratus, Palmaria palmata, Porphyra dioica, and Ulva sp.) were cultivated in mono- and polyculture in water originating from a lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) hatchery. Total seaweed biomass production, specific growth rates (SGR), and the removal of ammonium (NH4+), total oxidised nitrogen (TON), and phosphate (PO43-) from the wastewater were measured. Species richness increased total seaweed biomass production by 11% above the average component monoculture, driven by an increase in up to 5% in SGR of fast-growing macroalgal species in polycultures. Macroalgal species richness further enhanced ammonium uptake by 25%, and TON uptake by nearly 10%. Phosphate uptake was not improved by increased species richness. The increased uptake of NH4+ and TON with increased macroalgal species richness suggests the complementary use of different nitrogen forms (NH4+ vs. TON) in macroalgal polycultures. The results demonstrate enhanced bioremediation efficiency by increased macroalgal species richness and show the potential of integrating biodiversity-function research to improve aquaculture sustainability.
The objectives of this study were to determine the effects of stream nutrient regime, N:P ratios and suspended solids on fish tolerance/trophic compositions and stream ecosystem health, based on multi-metric model, during 2008-2013. Also, stream ecosystem health was evaluated in relation to chlorophyll-a (CHL) as a measure of algal productivity or indicators of trophic state to water chemical parameters. Total number of sampled fish species were 50 and showed a decreasing trend from 2008 to 2013. The minnow of Zacco platypus, based on the catch per unit effort (CPUE), was the most dominant species (25.9%) among the all species. Spatial heterogeneity was evident in the fish tolerance guilds that showed the dominance of sensitive species (89%) in the headwaters (S1) and the dominance of tolerant species (57%) in the urban. These conditions were directly influenced by concentrations of nutrients and organic matter (COD). The N:P ratios, as a barometer of water pollution, had a negative linear function (R2 = 0.40, P < 0.01) with CHL, and the ratios had an important role in changes of COD concentration (R2 = 0.40, P < 0.01). Under the circumstances, the N:P ratio directly influenced the relative proportions of fish trophic/tolerance compositions. According to the regression analysis of omnivore (Om) and insectivore sp. (In) on total nitrogen and total phosphorus, nitrogen had no significant influences (P > 0.05) to the two compositions, but phosphorus influenced directly the two guilds [slope (a) = -32.3, R2 = 0.25, P < 0.01 in the In; a = 40.7, R2 = 0.19, P < 0.01 in the Om]. Such water chemistry and fish trophic guilds determined the stream ecosystem health, based on the multi-metric fish model.
A multi-species model based on the Nernst-Planck equation has been developed by using a finite volume method. The model makes it possible to simulate transport due to an electrical field or by diffusion and to predict chloride penetration through water saturated concrete. The model is used in this paper to assess and analyse chloride diffusion coefficients and chloride binding isotherms. The experimental assessment of the effective chloride diffusion coefficient consists in measuring the chloride penetration depth by using a colorimetric method. The effective diffusion coefficient determined numerically allows to correctly reproduce the chloride penetration depth measured experimentally. Then, a new approach for the determination of chloride binding, based on non-steady state diffusion tests, is proposed. The binding isotherm is identified by a numerical inverse method from a single experimental total chloride concentration profile obtained at a given exposure time and from Freundlich's formula. In order to determine the initial pore solution composition (required as initial conditions for the model), the method of Taylor that describes the release of alkalis from cement and alkali sorption by the hydration products is used here. Finally, with these input data, prediction of total and water-soluble chloride concentration profiles has been performed. The method is validated by comparing the results of numerical simulations to experimental results obtained on various types of concretes and under different exposure conditions.
Due to emission of vehicles during loading/unloading, ventilation system in Roll-on/Roll-off ship is inevitable; however it is very difficult to predict the ventilation performance before it is finally built in. Although the requirements for the ventilation system include air change rate and maximum allowable concentration of CO in the cargo holds, even prototype tests are hardly able to quantify the ventilation performance. In the present paper, a new method to assess the ventilation performance of Roll-on/Roll-off ship is proposed by using computational fluid dynamics. The air exchange is modeled by introducing multi-species transport of existing air In the holds and new air from the ventilation system. Conservation of multi-species as well as 3D Navier-Stokes equation are solved numerically in time dependent manner. Several cases of different configuration are considered. The results include predicted mass fraction of new air in the holds. It is also presented that CO concentration can be estimated based on the predicted air change performance. Due to the lack of experimental data, the computed results are not verified; however the proposed method can be applied as au assessment tool.

Bacillus is a diverse genus consisting of more than 200 species with extensive genetic diversity. Their beneficial effects in industrial shrimp farming have been well documented. However, little is known about the biodiversity of the Bacillus spp. in this aquaculture system. Taxonomic analysis by 16S rRNA sequencing does not always allow species-level identification of Bacillus spp. In this study, 26 Bacillus isolates from two industrial Litopenaeus vannamei shrimp ponds in Bac Lieu Province, Vietnam, were analyzed for their genetic diversity by multi-locus sequence typing (MLST). A total of 22 sequence types were identified and segregated into four distinct clusters, corresponding to B. subtilis, B. velezensis, B. siamensis, and B. licheniformis. Bacillus subtilis and B. velezensis accounted for more than 73% of the Bacillus isolates. Notably, the MLST scheme exhibited high discriminatory power and might be further simplified to be a convenient method to identify species of the genus Bacillus.
Deep learning approach is emerging as a new way to improve the accuracy of tree species identification using bark image. However, the approach has not been studied enough because it is confronted with the problem of acquiring a large volume of bark image dataset. This study solved this problem by utilizing a pretrained off-the-shelf DCNN model. It compares the discrimination power of bark features extracted by each DCNN model. Then it extracts the features by using a selected DCNN model and feeds them to a multi-layer perceptron (MLP). We found out that the ResNet50 model is effective in extracting bark features and the MLP could be trained well with the features reduced by the principal component analysis. The proposed approach gives accuracy of 99.1% and 98.4% for BarkTex and Trunk12 datasets respectively.
