  • For Ka-band satellite communication system, a new flexible payload technologies which can compensate rain attenuation have to be developed. The Ka-band satellite output power control technology enables to adjust downlink output power of satellite payload in Ka-band (19.8 ~ 22.2 GHz). In this paper, we introduce multi-beam antenna with multi-port amplifiers for Ka-band flexible output power allocation system. We have designed multi-beam antenna with array-fed reflector to form 8 beams on the Korean Peninsula. The target EIRP per beam is more than 59 dBW. The system is designed to present 6 dB boost beams for rainfall areas. Individual beams were optimized by the excited amplitude and phase of feed elements of the feed cluster. The multi-port amplifier(MPA) is one of effective approaches for flexible power allocation in combination with multi-beam antenna. In case of using MPA in multi-beam system, the inter-port isolation characteristic of MPA is important parameter to avoid interference among the output ports. In this paper, we propose a new MPA structure that consists of two $4{\times}4$ Buttler matrixes and phase/amplitude controllable power amplifier modules.

  • This paper presents a new $4{\times}4$ multi-port amplifier(MPA) structure using reconfigurable switching matrices as input and output hybrid matrices(IHM, OHM), and phase/amplitude error calibration circuits. According to the mode selection of the switches, output power can be flexibly and effectively managed since the number of PA's to be used and the number of output port to distribute/combine amplified signals can be controlled. In addition, the proposed structure contains the phase and amplitude error calibration block that helps produce identical amplitudes and desired phase differences to the $4{\times}4$ OHM, resulting in optimizing the port-to-port isolation of the MPA system.

  • Herein, we design a wideband $8{\times}8$ waveguide Butler matrix in order to use in a multi-port amplifiers(MPAs) at Ka-band. To achieve the broadband characteristic, we design a binomial 6-slot 3 dB directional coupler which is used to configure the $8{\times}8$ Butler matrix. The measured results of the fabricated $8{\times}8$ Butler matrix have low insertion loss of less than 0.3 dB, good return loss of over 26 dB and high isolation of over 35 dB within the design bandwidth of 3 GHz.

  • This letter presents a selective wireless power transfer architecture using a reconfigurable multi-port amplifier. The proposed wireless power transfer architecture is composed of a phase shifter part controlled by FPGA, two class-E power amplifiers, a four-port power combiner and two coil loads. Depending on the phase control of FPGA, the power ratio of outputs at the two coil loads becomes 1:1, 2:0 and 0:2. The manufactured system has delivered 1W DC power to loads at 125 kHz. The total DC-to-DC conversion efficiency shows more than 40 % including PA efficiency of 79 %.

  • In this study, we have fabricated a gain flattened erbium-doped optical fiber amplifier. Gain flattening filters were realized by the strain-induced long period fiber gratings, which are made of periodically arrayed metal wires. Using the filter of $550{\mu}m$ period, spontaneous emission amplified at C-band wavelength by a 980nm pumping laser was flattened within 1dB of gain ripple. The performance of the simultaneous multi channel amplification was measured using a fabry-perot laser diode. Amplification ratio was above 20dB. This amplifier can be applied to the long distance transmission system based on a wavelength division multiplexing for boosting an attenuated signal.

  • The National Oceanographic Research Institute of KOREA started to survey for the basic data necessary to territorial sea and EEZ identification and marine development with Multi-Beam Echo Sounder(L3 SeaBeam 2112) since 1996. The Multi-Beam surveys has provided a very new and precise way of describing the morphology and nature of the underwater seabed. Multi-Beam Echo Sounder systems employ sound waves propagating at angles which vary from vertical to nearly horizontal. The locations on the bottom where echoes are generated cover a swath whose port to starboard width may be equal to many times the water depth. Newer Multi-beam bathymetric sonars provide both a beam by beam depth and backscatter amplitude of the bottom. But The backscattered amplitude didn't use for identification of bottom properties because backscatter amplitude effects by the many environmental variables of underwater and seabed. We investigates the utilization of geo-referenced backscatter amplitude and analysis of relationship between The Backscattered Amplitude and Sidescan Sonar imagery from Sea Beam 2112. For the backscattered amplitude imagery mainly represents the properties of sediment, we computed the beam geometry, time-varied amplifier gain, and mainly incidence angle to the topography using bathymetric model at each ping. In this paper, those issues are illustrated, and the angular independent imagery based on swath topographic model is described.
