  • Almost all existing controllers for nonholonomic mobile robots are designed without considering the motor dynamics. This is because the presence of the motor dynamics increases the complexity of the system dynamics, and makes difficult the design of the controller. In this paper, we propose a simple controller for trajectory tracking of mobile robots including motor dynamics. For the simple controller design, the dynamic surface control methodology is applied and extended to multi-input multi-output systems (i.e., mobile robots) that the number of inputs and outputs are different. Finally, simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

  • The methodology of micromechanical finite element method (MFEM) is proposed to calculate the micromechanical strains on fiber and matrix under mechanical and thermal loadings. For micromechanical analysis, composite structure is idealized the square and hexagonal unit cells. Boundary conditions are determined to calculate the effective material properties of composites and the strain magnification matrix. And they are verified by comparing with the results from multi cells, and the strain distributions of the unit cells are in accordance with those of the multi cells. Finally, the effective material properties of composite structure are obtained with respect to its fiber volume fraction and compared with results from rules-of-mixture.

  • The purpose of this study is to define masculinity as a shilling concept, stemming from the process of power groups controlling the conscious and unconscious of human beings to diffuse their ideologies, and to examine how masculinity has been reflected in aesthetic images in men's bodies and fashion. As for the research methodology, literary research and demonstrative studies through the analysis of pictures and photos were undertaken. Emerging in the wake of the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century, the absolute powers such as the bourgeois elite, males and the Wet emphasized the importance of reason, and made aesthetic images such as authority, robustness and modernization in men's fashion. In the conversion to the Information Society, poweres horizintally spread out over society. By using non-reason, diverse power groups have broken down traditional masculinity and express diverse aesthetic images in men's fashion such as eroticism, multi-culturalism and liberation.

  • The purpose of this study is to explain innovative changes of men's fashion in 'a cyber society', which has come with the advent of internet revolution and where we have witnessed social changes in view of sex, race and class. As for the research methodology, literary research was under taken to study characteristics of cyber society. And demonstrative studies on men's fashion were undertaken through the analysis of photos. 'Cyber space' is defined as 'a communication network of informations and opinions' or 'pseudo world created by computer technology'. Our current world, which has continuous interaction with cyber space, can be understand as cyber society. In a cyber society, transcendental structure is not accepted, feminine characteristics appear more frequently, and western-biased territorial features lose its ground. These characteristics are rooted in ideological characteristics of cyber society, such as opposition and composition. Considering the characteristics of cyber society, the aesthetic images of men's fashion in cyber society can be explained with de-authoritarianism, metrosexualism and multi-culturalism.

  • To perform the integrity evaluation of RPV more realistically, it is necessary to evaluate the metallurgical microstructure and residual stress considering more real phenomena such as multi-pass welding process and PWHT. Accordingly, firstly, this paper proposes the integrated assessment methodology systematically developed for residual stress on weldment of RPV by using thermodynamics, diffusion theory, finite element method and validation experiment. Also, the residual stress on circumferential weldment of reactor pressure vessel is calculated considering multi-pass welding process by the commercial finite element package, ABAQUS.

  • This paper describes a new method for the design of adaptive model-following control systems. This design concept is developed using the theory of slide mode. Authors present new results on the sliding control methodology to achieve accurate tracking for a class of multi-input multi-output, time-varying systems in the presence of parameter variations and disturbances. This algorithm can be easily applied to the multivariable control systems and obtained a smoother control signal in comparison to variable structure model following control systems. The design technique is easy and the control structure is simple. The design requires little computational effort. The control system is less sensitive to plant parameter variations and noise disturbances.

  • This paper presents a piezoelectric shunt methodology to reduce unwanted vibration of optical disk drive(O.D.D.). After briefly investigating a second-order mechanical vibration absorber model, the O.D.D. structure is incorporated with the piezoelectric shunt circuit. In order to evaluate feasibility of multi-mode passive damping of the structure, admittance measurement of piezoceramic is undertaken. The parameters are optimally tuned by admittance measurement results on the basis of the circuit model and displacement transmissibility is evaluated. To verify validity of admittance measurement result, experiment is performed and vibration reduction is achieved at two different modes.

  • The ever increasing demands for enhanced competitiveness of engineered products require a "designing-in-quality" strategy that can effectively and efficiently incorporate multiple design objectives into design. Robust design can be viewed as a multi-characteristic design problem requiring tradeoffs between mean and variance characteristics. Firstly this paper analyzes the intrinsic preference of the traditional SN ratio on mean and variance, and secondly presents a new design metric for a robust design using concepts from utility theory to accurately capture designer′s intent and preference on mean and variance. The steps to apply the proposed design metric as the robust design criterion in an orthogonal array based engineering experimentation is presented with the aid of a demonstrative case study. The performance of the proposed design metric is tested, and the results are discussed.

  • In this paper, we introduce the architecture of Genetic Algorithm(GA) based Feed-forward Polynomial Neural Networks(PNNs) and discuss a comprehensive design methodology. A conventional PNN consists of Polynomial Neurons, or nodes, located in several layers through a network growth process. In order to generate structurally optimized PNNs, a GA-based design procedure for each layer of the PNN leads to the selection of preferred nodes(PNs) with optimal parameters available within the PNN. To evaluate the performance of the GA-based PNN, experiments are done on a model by applying Medical Imaging System(MIS) data to a multi-variable software process. A comparative analysis shows that the proposed GA-based PNN is modeled with higher accuracy and more superb predictive capability than previously presented intelligent models.

  • This paper deals with a centralized warehouse problem with multi-item and capacity constraint. The objective of this paper is to decide the number and location of centralized warehouses and determineorder quantity (Q), reorder point (r) of each centralized warehouse to minimize holding, setup, penalty, and transportation costs. Each centralized warehouse uses continuous review inventory policy and its budget is limited. A SA (Simulated Annealing) approach is developed and its performance is tested by using some computational experiments.
