  • This study Is an measurement and prediction of transmission loss through dash panel with multi-path in a vehicle. Measurement results of transmission loss are decided by sound power measured using the sound intensity method under locating a sound source in the anechoic room and reverberant room, respectively. Prediction one is decided by multi-path analysis of dash panel composed by a various part of materials and complicated shape. Finally, two results show a great agreement between measured and predicted transmission loss.

Adaptive Data Association for Multi-Target Tracking using Relaxation

  • This paper introduces an adaptive algorithm determining the measurement-track association problem in multi-target tracking(MTT). We model the target and measurement relationships with mean field theory and then define a MAP estimate for the optimal association. Based on this model, we introduce an energy function defined over the measurement space, that incorporates the natural constraints for target tracking. To find the minimizer of the energy function, we derived a new adaptive algorithm by introducing the Lagrange multipliers and local dual theory. Through the experiments, we show that this algorithm is stable and works well in general environments. Also the advantages of the new algorithm over other algorithms are discussed.

  • The DCPD(Direct Current Potential Drop) method has been adopted for the crack measurement of a structure. The objective of this paper is to develop a multi-channel DCPD system not only for detecting crack depth, but also for determining the accurate shape of the surface crack. For this purpose, an exclusive software was also developed. In order to verify the developed DCPD system it was initially tested on a CT specimen, and subsequently was applied to a wide plate specimen. The developed multi-channel DCPD system was proven to provide an efficient and accurate measurement of a surface crack during the crack growth.

  • The demand on quantitative measurement of the heat flux is motivated in making higher-quality steel product through a water quenching process of plate mill. To improve a spatial degree of heat flux measurement, the multi-point heat flux measurement was carried out by a unique experimental technique that has a combination of the existing single-point heat flux gauge. The corresponding heat flux can be easily determined by Fourier's law in a conventional way. The multi-point heat flux gauge developed in this study can be applicable to measure the surface heat flux, the surface heat transfer coefficient during a water quenching applications of steelmaking process. The results exhibit different heat transfer regimes; such as single-phase forced convection, nucleate boiling, and film boiling, that are occurred in close proximity on the multi-point heat flux gauge quenched by water impinging jet.

  • A quantitative non-contact multi-point measurement system is proposed to the measurement of three-dimensional movement of floating vessels by using digital image processing. The instantaneous three-dimensional movement of a floating structure which is floating in a small water tank is measured by this system and its three-dimensional movement is reconstructed by the measurement results. The validity of this system is verified by position identification for spatially distributed known positional values of basic landmarks set for the camera calibration. It is expected that this system is applicable to the non-contact measurement for an unsteady physical phenomenon especially for the measurement of three-dimensional movement of floating vessels in the laboratory model test.

Magnetic levitation properties of single- and multi-grain YBCO bulk superconductors

  • Single-grain (c-normal or c-parallel) and multi-grain YBCO superconductors were prepared by a melt growth process with/without seeding. The magnetic levitation force and trapped magnetic field at liquid N2 temperature (77 K) of the YBCO superconductors were investigated. Samples for the levitation force measurement were zero-field cooled (ZFC) to 77 K, and samples for trapped field measurement were field-cooled (FC) using Nd magnets. As for the magnetic levitation force, the c-normal, single grain sample showed the largest value, whereas the multi-grain sample showed the lowest value. The trapped magnetic field of the c-normal and c-parallel single-grain samples was 4-5 times that of the multi-grain sample. In addition, as the external magnetic field (the number of magnets) increased, the both properties increased proportionally. These results were explained in terms of the orientation dependence of the levitation forces and the magnetic field trapping capability of the YBCO superconductor.

  • This paper proposes a multi-objective optimal placement method of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) in large electric transmission systems. It is proposed for minimizing the number of PMUs for complete system observability and maximizing measurement redundancy of the buses, simultaneously. The measurement redundancy of the bus indicates that number of times a bus is able to monitor more than once by PMUs set. A high level of measurement redundancy can maximize the system observability and it is required for a reliable power system state estimation. Therefore, simultaneous optimizations of the two conflicting objectives are performed using a binary coded firefly algorithm. The complete observability of the power system is first prepared and then, single line loss contingency condition is added to the main model. The practical measurement limitation of PMUs is also considered. The efficiency of the proposed method is validated on IEEE 14, 30, 57 and 118 bus test systems and a real and large- scale Polish 2383 bus system. The valuable approach of firefly algorithm is demonstrated in finding the optimal number of PMUs and their locations by comparing its performance with earlier works.

Classification of Measurement Methods of Surface Plasmon Resonance Biosensors by SK Index (SK 지수를 이용한 표면 플라즈몬 공명 바이오 센서의 측정방법의 분류)

  • SK (SPR Kinds) index, which can categorize the complicated measurement methods of surface plasmon resonance by simple method, has been proposed and verified. SK index is composed of three digits, where each digit presents the type of immobilized ligand, the type of illumination and the kinds of varying parameter, sequentially. The measurement method of (33#) series among SK indices shows the possibility of the multi-sensing capability, by which the response of 2-dimensional array of immobilized ligands can be detected simultaneously. The proposed possibility of multi-sensing capability has been verified by the modeling that is based on Fresnel reflection model.
