  • We fabricated multi-scale such as macro-, micro-, and multi-scale wrinkles by using repetitive volume dividing (RVD) method and thermal curing process. Also wrinkle surface was modified with coating of a self-assembled monolayer (SAM). We measured the contact angle of each wrinkled surface, and observed the behavior of droplets on sloping surface. Through experimental study, we found out that the contact angle was much higher in case of multi-scale and SAM coated wrinkles. And micro-scale wrinkle showed a high contact angle comparing with that of macro-scale wrinkle. Dynamic behaviors of a water droplet like sliding velocity on diverse wrinkled surfaces were dependent on their static contact angles. These results showed that hydro-dynamic characteristics were changed depending on the wrinkle structure and the material forming the wrinkle. These dynamic characteristics can be utilized in bio-chip, microfluidics, and many others in order to control easily chemical reactivity.

  • This paper presents a novel approach that describes the first-order (linear elastic) partial interaction analysis of members formed by multi-components based on the Generalised Beam Theory (GBT). The novelty relies on its ability to accurately model the partial interaction between the different components forming the cross-section in both longitudinal and transverse directions as well as to consider the cross-sectional deformability. The GBT deformations modes, that consist of the conventional, extensional and shear modes, are determined from the dynamic analyses of the cross-section represented by a planar frame. The partial interaction is specified at each connection interface between two adjacent elements by means of a shear deformable spring distributed along the length of the member. The ease of use of the model is outlined by an application performed on a multi-component member subjected to an eccentric load. The values calculated with an ABAQUS finite element model are used to validate the proposed method. The results of the numerical applications outline the influence of specifying different rigidities for the interface shear connection and in using different order of polynomials for the shape functions specified in the finite element cross-section analysis.

  • This study aims to analyze, by forming an experimental area of artificial soil green area that is of equal scale and analyzing the characteristics of runoff water in accordance with the cross-section configuration, applied the benefits in an actual multi-housing case study complex. In examining the measurement test results of the runoff water infiltration amount and surface runoff amount of a low-profile type green area(Dish type) and a general type green area(Mound type), Dish type was seen to have 1.5-times higher runoff water infiltration amount than Mound type during heavy rainfalls and showed about a 50% reduction with respect to the surface runoff amount. In other words, artificial soil green area offers the benefit of reduction of surface runoff amount and suggests, in actuality even with a change to the cross-sectional configuration of artificial soil green area alone at the time of construction of multi-housings, the possibility of benefits and reduction of costs spent on existing rainwater management facilities.

  • In this paper digital phase-shifter for multi-arm spiral antennas was designed by using Hilbert transform. All frequency components in input signal are phase-shifted for 90 degree by Hilbert transform, and the transform is implemented by FIT and IFIT. Digital phase-shifter generates two signals with phase difference of 90 degree by using Hilbert transform from input signals sampled by analog-digital converter(ADC), and then the input signal is phase-shifted for a given phase by using two signals. Hilbert transform based on digital phase-shifter is designed by Xilinx System generator, and the effects of input noise, FIT point, sampling period, initial phase of input signal, and shifted phase are simulated and its results are compared with Matlab results.

  • As the thickness of mobile communication devices is getting thinner, the size of the internal parts is also getting smaller. Among them, the battery case requires a high-level deep drawing technique because it has a rectangular shape with a large aspect ratio. In this study, the initial blank shape was optimized to minimize earing in a multi-stage deep drawing process using an artificial neural network(ANN). There has been no reported case of applying artificial neural network technology to the initial blank optimal design for a square case with large aspect ratio. The training data for ANN were obtained though simulation, and the model reliability was verified by performing comparative study with regression model using random sample test and goodness-of-fit test. Finally, the optimal design of the initial blank shape was performed through the verified ANN model.

  • Distributed massive MIMO systems, which have high bandwidth efficiency and can accommodate a tremendous amount of traffic using algorithms such as zero-forcing beam forming (ZFBF), may be deployed in large public venues with the antennas mounted under-floor. In this case the channel gain matrix H can be modeled as a multi-banded matrix, in which off-diagonal entries decay both exponentially due to heavy human penetration loss and polynomially due to free space propagation loss. To enable practical implementation of such systems, we present a multi-banded matrix inversion algorithm that substantially reduces the complexity of ZFBF by keeping the most significant entries in H and the precoding matrix W. We introduce a parameter p to control the sparsity of H and W and thus achieve the tradeoff between the computational complexity and the system throughput. The proposed algorithm includes dense and sparse precoding versions, providing quadratic and linear complexity, respectively, relative to the number of antennas. We present analysis and numerical evaluations to show that the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) increases linearly with p in dense precoding. In sparse precoding, we demonstrate the necessity of using directional antennas by both analysis and simulations. When the directional antenna gain increases, the resulting SIR increment in sparse precoding increases linearly with p, while the SIR of dense precoding is much less sensitive to changes in p.

  • In this paper, we provide efficient spectrum sensing technology for smooth use of frequency and energy charge of multi-copter. The proposed structures focus on improving performance of spectrum sensing that is based on Ad-hoc network. First, we explain basic principles and disadvantages of cooperative spectrum sensing and ad-hoc based spectrum sensing. To solve these problems, in this paper, we employ the beamforming technology that guarantees higher transmit primary users' signal power to secondary users in ad-hoc network. The performance of proposed algorithm is analyzed in terms of detection probabilities, and the results of this paper can be applied to the various ad-hoc based Cognitive Radio system.

  • An interest-based P2P constructs the peer connections based on similarities for efficient search of resources. A clustering technique using peer similarities as data is an effective approach to group the most relevant peers. However, the separation of groups produced from clustering lowers the scalability of a P2P network. Moreover, the interest-based approach is only concerned with user-level grouping where topology-awareness on the physical network is not considered. This paper proposes an efficient scalable search for the interest-based P2P system. A scalable multi-ring (SMR) based on fuzzy clustering handles the grouping of relevant peers and the proposed scalable search utilizes the SMR for scalability of peer queries. In forming the multi-ring, a minimized route function is used to determine the shortest route to connect peers on the physical network. Performance evaluation showed that the SMR acquired an accurate peer grouping and improved the connectivity rate of the P2P network. Also, the proposed scalable search was efficient in finding more replicated files throughout the peer network compared to other traditional P2P approaches.

  • The ADF-S (AKARI Deep Field - South) toward South Ecliptic Pole is one of the deep survey fields designed for the study of Cosmic Infrared Background (CIB). Owing to the easy accessibility with space missions and its low background brightness, the deep extragalactic survey was initiated by AKARI deep far-infrared observations and it will be performed by other future missions (e.g., Euclid, NISS, SPHEREx). The recent optical survey with KMTNet enabled us to identify the optical counterparts for dusty star-forming galaxies such as ULIRG, DOG, SMG. In addition, the NISS will perform the valuable spectro-photometric survey in the ADF-S. Those multi-wavelength data sets helps to trace the major galaxy population contributing to the CIB. Here, we introduce the extragalactic survey with the NISS and report the current status of the multi-wavelength extragalactic studies in the ADF-S.

  • In this paper, we implement a digital multi-beamformer using FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) which has advantages in parallel and real-time data processing. This is accomplished through the use of not only high-speed data communication but also multiple beam forming, which is currently required by MFR(Multi Function Radar). As a result, the beamformer can process 24 Gbps throughput in real-time and form 5 digital beams at the same time. It is also compared to the results of Matlab simulations. We demonstrate how an implemented beamformer can be used in an MFR system by using a digital array antenna.
