  • This paper presents a new infinite element for modeling far-field region in dynamic analysis of a fluid-saturated two-phase medium. The infinite element method combined to the infinite element method has been effectively applied to several engineering problems where the full space or half-space medium should be modeled. However, the currently available infinite element for dynamic analysis of two-phase porous medium has a limitation that Pl and P2 waves can only be Included in shape function expressing behavior ol the body. In this paper, the infinite element method is extended to simulate arbitrary number of multi-component waves. For this purpose, the far-field of the porous medium is assumed to be a layered half-space, while the near-field Includes structures as well as irregular soil medium. The accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed element have demonstrated using 1-D and 2-D wave propagation problems.

  • 3D body scan data are used widely in various fields to make products and living spaces for superior human body fitness. Based on the 3D measurements of human bodies for teens in Size Korea 2013, this research provides a way of finding the representative body sizes and 3D body scan data. First, a multi-dimensional vector space consisting of many measurement items was projected onto a 2D vector space with circumference and length components via factor analysis. The representative body sizes and 3D scan data close to these values were obtained via the Mahalanobis distance in 2D space. Considering the adolescent growth pattern shown on this 2D space, males were divided into 4 age groups and females were divided into 3 age groups. Using the eigenbodies corresponding to the column vectors of the component score coefficient matrix, the representative body sizes of 13 measurement items (male) and 14 measurement items (female) for each age group were calculated. The representative body sizes and 3D scan data are very useful for modeling representative 3D human figures.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data for the leisure space planning desirable for adolescents through survey on their using leisure space. Four hundred sixty-six middle and high school students living in Chongju city, Gwesan-gun and Eumsung-gun responded the first basic questionnaire and 160 students among them answered again the second questionnaire for more information on the site of leisure space they want. Frequency, percentage, $x^2-test$ and Multi-Dimensional Scale were methods of analysis. The results are as follows. Adolescents are wasting their leisure time because of insufficient facilities for productive activities. They use the time, when observed in one week, roaming around downtown, studying in off-school academies, visiting shops and playing in the game rooms. And when observed in a month, they use time meeting friends in coffee shops, visiting restaurants, studying in the libraries, playing in the ground and visiting sports facilities. Adolescents' leisure time were different according to sex, age, father's educational level, mother's occupation, household income, and living area. Students hoped the leisure spares to be located in the neighborhood where they can access easily, and facilities they wanted were small shop-buildings, game rooms, off-school academies, schools, sports facilities, studying moms and libraries. It is necessary that adolescents have opportunities to learn how to use their leisure time healthy in the leisure space. And consideration on adolescents living in the remote rural area have to be dealt importantly in the beginning of various planning.

  • The SPACE code that is based on a multi-dimensional two-fluid, three-field model is under development for licensing purposes of pressurized water reactors in Korea. Among the participating research and industrial organizations, KAERI is in charge of developing the physical models and correlation packages for the constitutive equations. This paper introduces a developed wall-to-fluid heat transfer package for the SPACE code. The wall-to-fluid heat transfer package consists of twelve heat transfer subregions. For each sub-region, the models in the existing safety analysis codes and the leading models in literature have been peer reviewed in order to determine the best models which can easily be applicable to the SPACE code. Hence a wall-to-fluid heat transfer region selection map has been developed according to the non-condensable gas quality, void fraction, degree of subcooling, and wall temperature. Furthermore, a partitioning methodology which can take into account the split heat flux to the continuous liquid, entrained droplet, and vapor fields is proposed to comply fully with the three-field formulation of the SPACE code. The developed wall-to-fluid heat transfer package has been pre-tested by varying the independent parameters within the application range of the selected correlations. The smoothness between two adjacent heat transfer regimes has also been investigated. More detailed verification work on the developed wall-to-fluid heat transfer package will be carried out when the coupling of a hydraulic solver with the constitutive equations is brought to completion.

  • Three-dimensional integrated circuits (3D ICs), starting with memory cubes, have entered the mainstream recently. The benefits many predicted in the past are indeed delivered, including higher memory bandwidth, smaller form factor, and lower energy. However, 3D ICs have yet to find their deployment in aerospace applications. In this paper we first present key design tools and methodologies for high performance, low power, and reliable 3D ICs that mainly target terrestrial applications. Next, we discuss research needs to extend their capabilities to ensure reliable operations under the harsh space environments. We first present a design methodology that performs fine-grained partitioning of functional modules in 3D ICs for power reduction. Next, we discuss our multi-physics reliability analysis tool that identifies thermal and mechanical reliability trouble spots in the given 3D IC layouts. Our tools will help aerospace electronics designers to improve the reliability of these 3D IC components while not degrading their energy benefits.

  • A two dimensional visco-plastic finite element model capable of handling the multistep excavaton was developed for investigating the effect of excavation-support sequences on the behaviour of underground openings in the jointed rock mass. Ubiquitous joint pattern was considered in the model and joint properties in each set were assumed to be identical. Passive, fully-grouted rockbolts were considered in the model. Visco-plastic deformations of joints and rockbolts were assumed to be governed by Mohr-Coulomb and von Mises yield criteria, respectively. With the ability of removing elements, the model can von Mises yield criteria, respectively. With the ability of removing elements, the model can simulate the multi-step excavation-support sequences. The reliability of the model to the stability analysis for the underground excavation in practice was checked by simulating the behavior of underground crude oil storage caverns under construction.

  • The star ${\zeta}$ Ophiuchi (HD 149757) is one of the brightest massive stars in the northern hemisphere and was widely studied in various wavelength domains. We report the analysis results of far ultraviolet (FUV) observations with other wavelengths for around ${\zeta}$ Ophiuchi. We study the correlation of between multi wavelength observations. We have developed a Monte Carlo code that simulates dust scattering of light including multiple encounters. The code is applied to the present Oph HII region to obtain the geometrical information of dust such as distance and thickness. Also We apply three-dimensional photoionization code to model Wisconsin $H{\alpha}$ Mapper observations of the H II region surrounding the star.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the structure of consumption emotions that consumers experienced in the process of consuming apparel products. Data was collected from 144 female college students living in Busan, and analyzed by salience, diversity, H-index, Clamor's V, and multi-dimensional scaling. The results showed as following; 1. The consumption emotions related to apparel products appeared three dimensions; ‘Relaxed-tense’ dimension, ‘Pleasant-unpleasant’ dimension, and ‘Outward-inward’ dimension. Considering elements of consumption system, the dimensions of consumption emotions in relation to apparel performances were 'Pleasant-unpleasant' and ‘Outward-inward’. The dimensions of consumption emotions experienced in usage situations were ‘Relaxed-tense’ and ‘pleasant-unpleasant’. The consumption emotions related to specific products were composed of ‘Pleasant-unpleasant’ dimension and ‘Outward-inward’ dimension. 2. As the multi-dimension map of this study has much space, it suggested that the scope of consumption emotions related to apparel products was more limited than those related to general situations and products. 3. The structure of consumption emotions in relation to apparel performances appeared to be bisected, while those related to usage situations showed relatively to be dispersed. 4. Although Pleasant-unpleasant dimension was consistent with results of prestudies, the dimensions of ‘Relaxed-tense’ and ‘Outward-inward’ were newly confirmed as the dimensions of consumption emotions related to apparel products. Therefore, consumer's consumption emotions of apparel products were composed of three dimensions, tended to be more limited than those of general consumption situations and products, and differentiated across apparel performances, usage situation, and specific products.
