  • Three-dimensional (3D) video scenes are complex and difficult to control, especially when scene switching occurs. In this paper, we propose two algorithms based on an incremental proportional-integral-derivative (PID) algorithm and a similarity analysis between views to improve the method of bit allocation for multi-view high efficiency video coding (MV-HEVC). Firstly, an incremental PID algorithm is introduced to control the buffer "liquid level" to reduce the negative impact on the target bit allocation of the view layer and frame layer owing to the fluctuation of the buffer "liquid level". Then, using the image similarity between views is used to establish, a bit allocation calculation model for the multi-view video main viewpoint and non-main viewpoint is established. Then, a bit allocation calculation method based on hierarchical B frames is proposed. Experimental simulation results verify that the algorithm ensures a smooth transition of image quality while increasing the coding efficiency, and the PSNR increases by 0.03 to 0.82dB while not significantly increasing the calculation complexity.

  • In this paper, we present two methods of correcting bit errors in constant amplitude multi-code (CAMC) CDMA, which uses the redundant bits only. The first method is a parity-based bit correction with hard-decision, where the received signals despread into n two-dimensional structure with both horizontal parity and vertical parity. Then, an erroneous bit is corrected for each $4{\times}4$ pattern. The second method is a turbo decoding, which is modified from the decoding of a single parity check product code (SPCPC). Experimental results show that, in the second method, the redundant bits in CAMC can be fully used for the error correction and so they are not really a loss of channel bandwidth. Hence, CAMC provides both a low peak-to-average power ratio and robustness to bit errors.

  • In this study, a substrate-bias assisted 2-step pulse programming method is proposed for realizing 4-bit/1-cell operation of the SONOS memory. The programming voltage and time are considerably reduced by this programming method than a gate-bias assisted 2-step pulse programming method and CHEI method. It is confirmed that the difference of 4-states in the threshold voltage is maintained to more than 0.5 V at least for 10-year for the multi-level characteristics.

  • In this paper, a tradeoff between the total energy consumption-per-bit and the end-to-end rate under spatial reuse in wireless multi-hop network is developed and analyzed. The end-to-end rate of the network is the number of information bits transmitted (end-to-end) per channel use by any node in the network that is forwarding the data. In order to increase the bandwidth efficiency, spatial reuse is considered whereby simultaneous relay transmissions are allowed provided there is a minimum separation between such transmitters. The total energy consumption-per-bit includes the energy transmitted and the energy consumed by the receiver to process (demodulate and decoder) the received signal. The total energy consumption-per-bit is normalized by the distance between a source-destination pair in order to be consistent with a direct (single-hop) communication network. Lower bounds on this energy-bandwidth tradeoff are analyzed using convex optimization methods. For a given location of relays, it is shown that the total energy consumption-per-bit is minimized by optimally selecting the end-to-end rate. It is also demonstrated that spatial reuse can improve the bandwidth efficiency for a given total energy consumption-per-bit. However, at the rate that minimizes the total energy consumption-per-bit, spatial reuse does not provide lower energy consumption-per-bit compared to the case without spatial reuse. This is because spatial reuse requires more receiver energy consumption at a given end-to-end rate. Such degraded energy efficiency can be compensated by varying the minimum separation of hops between simultaneous transmitters. In the case of equi-spaced relays, analytical results for the energy-bandwidth tradeoff are provided and it is shown that the minimum energy consumption-per-bit decreases linearly with the end-to-end distance.

  • In underwater communications, to compensate performance degradation induced from rapidly changing channel transfer characteristic, multi-band communication method which allocate the same data to different frequency bands is used. However, the multi-band configuration may have worse performance than the single-band one because performance degradation in a particular band affects the output from the entire bands. This problem can be solved through a receiving end that analyzes error rates of each band, sets threshold values and allocates lower weights to inferior bands. Therefore, this paper proposed a weighting algorithm based on estimated Bit Error Rate (BER) which analyzes reliability of received data based on the performance difference between demodulated and decoded data. Employing turbo codes with coding rate of 1/3, we evaluate the performance of the proposed weighted multi-band transmission model in real underwater environments based on optimal simulation parameters. Through the sea trial experiment, we confirmed error performance was improved by applying the proposed weighting algorithm.

  • This paper proposes a new multi-start scheme that generates guided random bits in selecting initial search points for global optimization with univariate dynamic encoding algorithm for searches (uDEAS). The proposed method counts the number of 1 in each bit position from all the previously generated initial search matrices and, based on this information, generates 0 in proportion with the probability of selecting 1. This rule is simple and effective for improving diversity of initial search points. The performance improvement of the proposed multi-start is validated through implementation in uDEAS and function optimization experiments.

  • For the implementation of a RFID system, an anti-collision algorithm is required to identify multiple tags within the range of a RFID Reader. A Bit-by-Bit algorithm is defined by Auto ID Class 0. In this paper, we propose a SBBB(Stack Bit-by-Bit) algorithm. The SBBB algorithm save the collision position and makes a query using the saved data. SBBB improve the efficiency of collision resolution. We show the performance of the SBBB algorithm by simulation. The performance of the proposed algorithm is higher than that of BBB algorithm. Especially, the more each tag bit streams are the duplicate, the higher performance is.

  • Very low bit rate video coding uses the inter-picture video coding method for high compression. The inter-picture video coding is coded based on the information of the previous frames so any packet loss can lead to reduce the image quality on the transmission. In this paper, we proposed the multi-stream generation method for inter-media synchronization of very low bit rate video based on TCP for reliable transmission. The proposed approach performs a reliable transmission via a TCP based protocol. This method incorporates multi-streams in order to enhance the robustness of delivery and can withstand against network jitter. Moreover, the client bandwidths are fully utilized in a highly efficient way.

  • Multi-level holographic data storage is a candidate for the next generation data storage system, since it can store more than one bit per pixel. It is possible to increase the number of codewords if the number of levels is increased, and the code with an appropriate selection of codewords can also increase the minimum distance. In this paper, we propose three multi-level modulation codes of the code rate 1 bit/pixel and compare the performance according to the minimum distance. The result shows that the code with small number of levels is better than that of large number of levels because it is hard to detect threshold value.
