Recently, the noise environmental issue in compound residential areas like apartments becomes a very critical factor fer the building designers. In order to satisfy the customer need to live in a quiet environment, several interior structures for buildings are being introduced. The multi-layered composite floor plate is one of them. This structure is designed to prevent the noise generated by an object collision. (omitted)

In order to measure sound transmission loss (STL) of a shipboard window of small size, a special partition is built into the test opening between two reverberation rooms and the specimen is placed in that partition. For high sound insulation, the filler wall often has multi-layered structure such as double-brick wall or buckhead structure with thick steel plate, absorptive material, and sandwich panels. This paper discusses the installation method of a multi-layered filler wall that consist of gypsum boards, lead plates, and glass wool. The experimental results of various wall structures are introduced. The comparison between the results show that the sound bridge effect plays a significant role in lowering the maximum STL of the filler wall. It is also found that the higher the sound insulation performance of the filler wall is, the more important the franking transmission through other side wall of the test facility is.
The purpose of the present work is to study the parametric nonlinear vibration behavior of three layered symmetric laminated plate. In the analytical formulation; both normal and shear deformations are considered in the core layer by means of the refined higher-order zig-zag theory. Harmonic balance method in conjunction with Galerkin procedure is adopted for simply supported laminate plate, to obtain its natural and damping properties. For these aims, a set of complex amplitude equations governed by complex parameters are written accounting for the geometric nonlinearity and viscoelastic damping factor. The frequency response curves are presented and discussed by varying the material and geometric properties of the core layer.

Various modeling techniques for ultrasonic wave propagation and scattering problems in finite solid media are presented. Elastodynamic boundary value problems in inhomogeneous multi-layered plate-like structures are set up for modal analysis of guided wave propagation and numerically solved to obtain dispersion curves which show propagation characteristics of guided waves. As a powerful modeling tool to overcome such numerical difficulties in wave scattering problems as the geometrical complexity and mode conversion, the Boundary Element Method(BEM) is introduced and is combined with the normal mode expansion technique to develop the hybrid BEM, an efficient technique for modeling multi-mode conversion of guided wave scattering problems.

In this paper, a multi-layered finite element model for laminated glass plates is introduced. A layer-wise theory is applied to the analysis of laminated glass due to the combination of stiff and soft layers; the independent layers are connected via Lagrange multipliers. The von $K{\acute{a}}rm{\acute{a}}n$ large deflection plate theory and the constant Poisson ratio for constitutive equations are assumed to capture the possible effects of geometric nonlinearity and the time/temperature-dependent response of the plastic foil. The linear viscoelastic behavior of a polymer foil is included by the generalized Maxwell model. The proposed layer-wise model was implemented into the MATLAB code and verified against detailed three-dimensional models in ADINA solver using different hexahedral finite elements. The effects of temperature, load duration, and creep/relaxation are demonstrated by examples.

The sound radiation responses of multi-layer composite plates subjected to harmonic mechanical excitation in hygrothermal environment is numerically investigated. A homogenized micromechanical finite element (FE) based on the higher-order mid-plane kinematics replicating quadratic function as well as the through the thickness stretching effect together with the indirect boundary element (IBE) scheme has been first time employed. The isoparametric Lagrangian element (ten degrees of freedom per node) is used for discretization to attain the hygro-thermo-elastic natural frequencies and the modes of the plate via Hamilton's principle. The effective material properties under combined hygrothermal loading are considered via a micromechanical model. An IBE method is then implemented to attain structure-surrounding coupling and the Helmholtz wave equation is solved to compute the sound radiation responses. The effectiveness of the model is tested by converging it with the similar analytical/numerical results as well as the experimentally acquired data. The present scheme is further hold out for solving diverse numerical illustrations. The results revealed the relevance of the current higher-order FE-IBE micromechanical model in realistic estimation of hygro-thermo-acoustic responses. The geometrical parameters, volume fraction of fiber, layup, and support conditions alongside the hygrothermal load is found to have significant influence on the vibroacoustic characteristics.

In this paper, the equivalent circuit model of a Rosen-type multilayer piezoelectric transformer(MPT) has been proposed based on the Mason's equivalent circuit model and the principle of single layer piezoelectric plate. From the piezoelectric direct and converse effects, the symbolic expressions between the electric inputs and outputs of the MPT have been derived from the equivalent circuit model. A simplified equivalent circuit model of the MPT whose driving part has a single input form has been proposed. The symbolic expressions of the driving part have been derived from the simplified equivalent circuit model and the model was compared with the multi-input equivalent circuit model through the simulation. In the comparisons between the simulation results and the experimental data, output voltage is 630 Vp-p in case of 11-layered MPT and 670 Vp-p for 13-layered MPT over the experiment range. As the load resistance increases, output voltage increases and saturates over $300k{\Omega}$ and the resonant frequency changes from 102 kHz to 103 kHz. The simulation and the experimental results agree well over different load resistances and frequencies.
The spudcan requires the suitable design considering the soil, platform, and environmental conditions. Its shape needs to be designed to secure sufficient reaction of soil so that it can prevent overturning accidents. Its shape also has to minimize the installation and extraction time. Even in the same soil condition, the reaction of soil may be different depending on the shape of spud can, mainly the slope of top and bottom plates. Therefore, in this study, the relation between the slope of plates and the reaction of soil with and without water jetting is analyzed to better understand their interactions and correlations. For the investigation, a wind turbine installation jack-up rig (WTIJ) is selected as the target platform and the Gulf of Mexico is considered as the target site. A multi layered (sand overlying two clays) soil profile is applied as the assumed soil condition and the soil-structure interaction (SSI) analysis is performed by using ANSYS to analyze the effect of the slope change of the bottom plate and water jetting on the reaction of soil. This kind of investigation and simulation is needed to develop optimal and smart spudcan with water-jetting control in the future.
This paper presents a high accuracy Finite Element approach for delamination modelling in laminated composite structures. This approach uses multi-layered shell element and cohesive zone modelling to handle the mechanical properties and damages characteristics of a laminated composite plate under low velocity impact. Both intralaminar and interlaminar failure modes, which are usually observed in laminated composite materials under impact loading, were addressed. The detail of modelling, energy absorption mechanisms, and comparison of simulation results with experimental test data were discussed in detail. The presented approach was applied for various models and simulation time was found remarkably inexpensive. In addition, the results were found to be in good agreement with the corresponding results of experimental data. Considering simulation time and results accuracy, this approach addresses an efficient technique for delamination modelling, and it could be followed by other researchers for damage analysis of laminated composite material structures subjected to dynamic impact loading.
Ultrasonic pulse echo method comes to be difficult to apply to the multi-layered structure with very thin layer, because the echoes from the top and the bottom of the layer are overlapped. Conventionally method, deconvolution technique has been used for the decomposition of overlapped UT signals, however it has disabilities when the waveform of the transmitted signal is distorted according to the propagation. In this paper, the wavelet transform based deconvolution (WTBD) technique is proposed as a new signal processing method that can decompose the overlapped echo signals in A-Scan signal with superior performances compared to the conventional deconvolution technique. Performances of the proposed method are shown by through computer simulations using model signal with noise and are demonstrated by through experiments for the fabricated acryl rod with a thin steel plate bonded to it.
