  • Multi-layered stone masonry monuments, such as stone pagoda can be modeled as a multi-degrees of freedom system. The dynamic behavior of these structures are mainly influenced by contour condition of contacting surface of stones. In this case the mass of the system can be easily estimated, mean while the estimation of stiffness at junction is not simple. In this paper a method for estimating the spring constant at the contacting surface of stone in proposed. This paper describes a method of computational modelling technique for structural analysis of stone pagodas using measurement of natural frequency and eigenvalue analysis. For this purpose Five story stone pagoda in Cchongnimsa site was selected as a model.

  • The number of the PV systems installed in south korea has been gradually increasing. Interest of operation & management of PV System is rising up as PV System installation trends to increase. The vital function of operation & management is the monitoring system. Most monitoring systems are only available for equipment of suppliers and manufacturers. In this study, a monitoring system was implemented to support multi-domain equipment (inverter, junction box, water distribution board, environmental sensors) that are not limited to specific manufacturers. Monitoring system includes a visualization function, which makes it easy for users to check the power generation and the operation status of the equipment of PV System. In the future, this monitoring system will be utilized as an operation & maintenance foundation element in the PV system industry.

  • This paper provides a loss analysis and comparison of high power semiconductor devices in 5MW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) Medium Voltage (MV) Wind Turbine Systems (WTSs). High power semiconductor devices of the press-pack type IGCT, module type IGBT, press-pack type IGBT, and press-pack type IEGT of both 4.5kV and 6.5kV are considered in this paper. Benchmarking is performed based on the back-to-back type 3-level Neutral Point Clamped Voltage Source Converters (3L-NPC VSCs) supplied from a grid voltage of 4160V. The feasible number of semiconductor devices in parallel is designed through a loss analysis considering both the conduction and switching losses under the operating conditions of 5MW PMSG wind turbines, particularly for application in offshore wind farms. This paper investigates the loss analysis and thermal performance of 5MW 3L-NPC wind power inverters under the operating conditions of various power factors. The loss analysis and thermal analysis are confirmed through PLECS Blockset simulations with Matlab Simulink. The comparison results show that the press-pack type IGCT has the highest efficiency including the snubber loss factor.

  • The thermal behavior of power modules is an important criterion for the design of cooling systems and optimum thermal structure of these modules. An important consideration for high power and high frequency design is the spacing between semiconductor devices, substrate structure and influence of the boundary condition in the case. This study focuses on the thermal behavior of hybrid power modules to establish a simplified method that allows temperature estimation in different module components without decapsulation. This study resulted in a correction of the junction temperature values estimated from the transient thermal impedance of each component operating alone. The corrections depend on mutual thermal coupling between different chips of the hybrid structure. A new experimental technique for thermal mutual evaluation is presented. Notably, the classic analysis of thermal phenomena in these structures, which was independent of dissipated power magnitude and boundary conditions in the case, is incorrect.

  • We have investigated the Josephson vortex dynamics in $Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O{8+\delta}$ intrinsic Josephson junctions subjected to a magnetic field parallel to $CuO_2$ planes. We investigated mesas with $40\times40{\mu}m^2$ in size and containing 6 and 20. intrinsic junctions. The zero field I-V characteristics exhibited a typical hysteretic, multi-branched nature of the intrinsic Josephson effect. At high magnetic fields (H>1.5 T), I-V characteristics showed flux flow steps. The Swihart velocity obtained from this observation was about $4.2\times10^5$ m/s, which was the lowest mode electromagnetic wave velocity of N coupled stack. The experimental I-V curves fitted well into the simple model of Cherenkov radiation including Ohmic and non-linear dissipation terms. This suggests that the dissipation mechanism of Josephson vortex be due to both Cherenkov radiation and quasiparticle tunneling current.

  • ZnTe semiconductor is very attractive a material for optoelectronic devices in the visible green spectral region because of it has direct bandgap of 2.26 eV. The prototypes of ZnTe light emitting diodes (LEDs) have been reported [1], showing that their green emission peak closely matches the most sensitive region of the human eye. The optoelectronic properties of ZnTe:O film allow to expect a large optical gain in the intermediate emission band, which emission band lies about 0.4-0.6 eV below the conduction band of ZnTe [2]. So, the ZnTe system is useful for the production of high-efficiency multi-junction solar cells [2,3]. In this work, the ZnTe:O thin films were deposited on Al2O3 substrates by using the radio frequency magnetron sputtering system. Three sets of samples were prepared using argon and oxygen as the sputtering gas. The deposition chamber was pre-pumped down to a base pressure of 10-7 Torr before introducing gas. The deposition pressure was fixed at 10-3 Torr throughout this work. During the ZnTe deposition, the substrate temperature was 300 oC. The optical properties were also investigated by using the ultraviolte-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer.

  • An experimental study was conducted to investigate the interaction phenomena of droplet array combustion in ambient environment. The droplet with 1 mm in diameter was supported from an optical fiber and ignited with a hot wire. Combustion lifetimes and burning rate constants were measured for fuel of nheptane according to parameters, which were junction and suspender spacings, and array configuration. Results show that the burning process considerably depends on the initial away configuration. The d$^2$-law is found to be correct when applied to both of the droplets in away and the single droplet. For separation distance of about 5mm, there exists a critical state. So the transition from a merged flame to separated flames occurs and burning velocity is much faster than before. Combustion lifetime of the lower droplet is shorter than that of the upper droplet in the two-dimensional arrays combustion. Burning rate constants of the droplets in arrays are smaller than that of the single droplet, while they become higher as separation distance increases. Combustion lifetimes of the droplets in arrays are longer than that of the single droplet and decrease as separation distance increase. It is concluded that the array configuration and the mergedness of the flame are the most important factors governing multi-droplet combustion.

  • Design optimization of the heat sink with 7${\times}$7 square pin-fins is performed numerically using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and the Computer Aided Optimization (CAO). In the pin-fins heat sink, the optimum design variables for fin height (h), fin width (w), and fan-to-heat sink distance (c) can be achieved when the thermal resistance ($\theta$$_{j}$) at the junction and the overall pressure drop ($\Delta$p) are minimized simultaneously. To complete the optimization, the finite volume method for calculating the objective functions, the BFGS method for solving the unconstrained non-linear optimization problem, and the weighting method for predicting the multi-objective problem are used. The results show that the optimum design variable for the weighting coefficient of 0.5 are as follows: w=4.653 mm, h=59.215 mm, and c=2.667 mm. In this case, the objective functions are predicted as 0.56K/W of thermal resistance and 6.91 Pa of pressure drop. The Pareto optimal solutions are also presented.re also presented.d.

  • To make cost-effective solar cells, We have to use low cost material or make short process time or high temperature process. In solar cells, formation of emitter is basic and important technique according to build-up P-N junction. Diffusion process using spin-on dopants has all of this advantage. In this paper, We investigated n+ emitter formation spin-on dopants to apply crystalline silicon solar cells. We known variation of sheet resistance according to variation of temperature and single-crystalline and multi-crystalline silicon wafer using Honeywell P-8545 phosphorus spin-on dopants. We obtain uniformity of sheet resistance within 3~5% changing RPM of spin coater.
