  • In this paper we have investigated a novel approach applying low-density parity-check coding to a COFDM-CDMA system, which operates in a multi-path fading mobile channel. Developed as a linear-block channel coder, the LDPC code is known for a superior signal reception capability in AWGN and/or flat fading channels with respect to increased encoding rates, however, its performance degrades when the communication channel becomes multi-path fading. For a typical multi-path fading mobile channel with a SNR of 16㏈ or lower. in order to obtain a BER lower than 1 out of 10000, the LDPC code with encoding rates below 1:3 requires not only the inherent parity check information but also the piloting information for refreshing front-end equalizer taps of COFDM-CDMA, periodically. For instance, while the 1:3-rate LDPC coded transmission symbol is consisted of data bits and parity-check bits in 1 to 3 proportion, on the other hand, in the proposed method the same rate LDPC transmission symbol contains data bits, parity check bits, and pilot bits in 1 to 2 to 1 proportion, respectively. The included pilot bits are effective not only for channel estimation and channel equalization but for symbol decoding by assisting the parity-check bits, hence, improving SNR vs BER performance over the conventional 1:3-rate LDPC code. The proposed system performance has been verified using computer simulations in multi-path, Rayleigh fading channels, and the results show us that the proposed method out-performs the general LDPC channel coding methods in terms of SNR vs BER measurements.

  • Because of superior division among sub-channels, DWT MC-CDMA is less interference with neighborhood channel. In our newly proposed multi-carrier CDMA data transmission method, lIR CMFB filter banks sharply divide sub-bands and reduces spectral overlaps among neighboring sub-channels. In experiment result, proposed filter is better ability of sub-band division than FIR filter. Since the proposed cosine modulated filter banks lIR filter having wavelet property is designed to response sharp transition band, the ISI and ICI between neighboring sub-channels can be effectively reduced. And robustness about narrow band interference of CMFB IIR MC-CDMA almost same FIR DWT MC-CDMA.

  • In this study, we design a reconfigurable frequency selective surface (FSS) using fluidic channels to use the FSS in multi-frequencies. Effective permittivity can be changed using water as the fluid of fluidic channels in a dielectric slab, and the frequency characteristics of FSS can be controlled. We optimize the dimensions of the fluidic channel to design a reconfigurable FSS and measure its transmission characteristics.

  • We present a space-time trellis coded OFDM system in slow fading channels. Generalized principal ratio combining (GPRC) is also analyzed theoretically in frequency domain. The analysis shows that the decoding metric of GPRC includes the metrics of maximum likelihood(ML) and PRC. The computer simulations with M-PSK modulation are obtained in frequency flat and frequency selective fading channels. The decoding complexity and simulation running times are also evaluated among the decoding schemes.

  • One of the main challenges for future 21-cm observations is to remove foregrounds which are several orders of magnitude more intense than the HI signal. We propose a new technique for removing foregrounds of the redshifted 21-cm observations. We consider multi-frequency interferometer observations. We assume that the 21-cm signals in different frequency channels are uncorrelated and the foreground signals change slowly as a function of frequency. When we add the visibilities of all channels, the foreground signals increase roughly by a factor of N because they are highly correlated. However, the 21-cm signals increase by a factor of sqrt{N} because the signals in different channels contribute randomly. This enables us to obtain an accurate shape of the foreground angular power spectrum. Then, we obtain the 21-cm power spectrum by subtracting the foreground power spectrum obtained this way. We describe how to obtain the average power spectrum of the 21-cm signal.

  • Developing an interactive satellite multimedia system, such as a digital video broadcasting (DVB) return channel via satellite (RCS) system, is gaining popularity over the world To accommodate the increasing traffic demand we are motivated to investigate an alternative for improving return channel utilization We develop an efficient method for optimal packet scheduling in an interactive satellite multimedia system using hybrid CDMA/TDMA channels. We formulate the timeslot-code assignment problem as a binary integer programming (BIP) problem, where the throughput maximization is the objective, and decompose this BIP problem into two sub-problems for the purpose of solution efficiency. With this decomposition, we promote the computational efficiency in finding the optimal solution of the original BIP problem Since 2001, ETRI has been involved in a development project where we have successfully completed an initial system integration test on broadband mobile Internet access via Ku-band channels using the proposed resource allocation algorithm.

  • The wireless mesh network (WMN) has attracted significant interests as a broadband wireless network to provide ubiquitous wireless access for broadband services. Especially with incorporating multiple orthogonal channels and multiple directional antennas into the WMN, each node can communicate with its neighbor nodes simultaneously without interference between them. However, as we allow more freedom, we need a more sophisticated algorithm to fully utilize it and developing such an algorithm is not easy in general. In this paper, we study a joint channel assignment, link scheduling, routing, and rate control problem for the WMN with multiple orthogonal channels and multiple directional antennas. This problem is inherently hard to solve, since the problem is formulated as a mixed integer nonlinear problem (MINLP). However, despite of its inherent difficulty, we develop an algorithm to solve the problem by using the generalized Benders decomposition approach [2]. The simulation results show the proposed algorithm provides the optimal solution to maximize the network utility, which is defined as the sum of utilities of all sessions.

  • In this paper, the design requirement and the electrical circuit analysis are performed to construct the multi-channel cardiac activation pre-amplifier necessary for a signal conditioning circuit. The general 64 channel configuration is expanded into 128 channels to enhance the spatial resolution on the mapped surface of the heart. The 128 channels pre-amplifier consists of input circuit, differential amplifier, right leg driven circuit and main-amplifier with notch filter part.

  • The numerical methods for finding the optimal parameters in 640 Gbps (16 channels $\times$ 40 Gbps) WDM system with optical phase conjugator (OPC) are proposed, which effectively compensate the distorted overall WDM channels. The considered optimal parameters are the OPC position and the dispersion coefficient of fibers. The numerical approaches are accomplished through two different procedures. One of these procedures is that the optimal OPC position is previously searched and then the optimal dispersion coefficient is searched at the obtained optimal OPC position. The other is the reverse of the above procedure. From the numerical results, it is confirmed that two optimal parameters depend on each other, but less related with the searching procedure. The methods proposed in this research will be expected to alternate with the method of making a symmetrical distribution of power and local dispersion in real optical link which is a serious problem of applying the OPC into multi-channels WDM system.

  • A critical issue in applications involving networks of wireless sensors is their ability to synchronize, and mitigate the fading propagation channel effects. Especially when distributed 'slave' sensors (nodes) reach-back to communicate with the 'master' sensor (gateway), low power cooperative schemes are well motivated. Viewing each node as an antenna element in a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) multi-antenna system, we design pilot patterns to estimate the multiple carrier frequency offsets (CFO), and the multiple channels corresponding to each node-gateway link. Our novel pilot scheme consists of non-zero pilot symbols along with zeros, which separate nodes in a time division multiple access (TDMA) fashion, and lead to low complexity schemes because CFO and channel estimators per node are decoupled. The resulting training algorithm is not only suitable for wireless sensor networks, but also for synchronization and channel estimation of single- and multi-carrier MIMO systems. We investigate the performance of our estimators analytically, and with simulations.
