The advantages of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) are high spectral efficiency, resiliency to RF interference, and lower multi-path distortion. To further utilize vast channel capacity of the multiuser OFDM, one has to find the efficient adaptive subchannel and bit allocation among users. In this paper, we propose an 0-1 integer programming model formulating the optimal subchannel and bit allocation problem of the multiuser OFDM. We employ a dual-decomposition method that provides a tight linear programming (LP) relaxation bound. Simulation results are provided to show the effectiveness of the 0-1 integer programming model. MATLAB simulation on a system employing M-ary quardarature amplitude modulation (MQAM) assuming a frequency-selective channel consisting of three independent Rayleigh multi-paths are carried with the optimal subchannel and bit allocation solution generated by 0-1 integer programming model.
This paper presents a practical method to evaluate the effective length factors for columns in multi-storey unbraced frames based on the concept of storey-based elastic buckling by means of decomposing a multi-storey frame into a series of single-storey partially-restrained (PR) frames. The lateral stiffness of the multi-storey unbraced frame is derived and expressed as the product of the lateral stiffness of each storey. Thus, the stability analysis for the multi-storey frame is conducted by investigating the lateral stability of each individual storey, which is facilitated through decomposing the multi-storey frame into a series of single-storey PR frames and applying the storey-based stability analysis proposed by the authors (Xu and Liu 2002) for each single-storey PR frame. Prior to introducing decomposition approaches, the end rotational stiffness of an axially load column is derived and rotational stiffness interaction between the upper and lower columns is investigated. Three decomposition approaches, characterized by means of distributing beam-to-column rotational-restraining stiffness between the upper and lower columns, are proposed. The procedure of calculating storey-based column effective length factors is presented. Numerical examples are then given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed procedure.
In this paper, an adaptive MEMD based modal identification technique for linear time-invariant systems is proposed employing multiple vibration measurements. Traditional empirical mode decomposition (EMD) suffers from mode-mixing during sifting operations to identify intrinsic mode functions (IMF). MEMD performs better in this context as it considers multi-channel data and projects them into a n-dimensional hypercube to evaluate the IMFs. Using this technique, modal parameters of the structural system are identified. It is observed that MEMD has superior performance compared to its traditional counterpart. However, it still suffers from mild mode-mixing in higher modes where the energy contents are low. To avoid this problem, an adaptive filtering scheme is proposed to decompose the interfering modes. The Proposed modified scheme is then applied to vibrations of a reinforced concrete road bridge. Results presented in this study show that the proposed MEMD based approach coupled with the filtering technique can effectively identify the parameters of the dominant modes present in the structural response with a significant level of accuracy.
The empirical mode decomposition (EMD) method is well-known for its ability to decompose a multi-component signal into a set of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). The method uses a sifting process in which local extrema of a signal are identified and followed by a spline fitting approximation for decomposition. This method provides an effective and robust approach for decomposing nonlinear and non-stationary signals. On the other hand, the IMF components do not automatically guarantee a well-defined physical meaning hence it is necessary to validate the IMF components carefully prior to any further processing and interpretation. In this paper, an attempt to use the EMD method to identify properties of nonlinear elastic multi-degree-of-freedom structures is explored. It is first shown that the IMF components of the displacement and velocity responses of a nonlinear elastic structure are numerically close to the nonlinear normal mode (NNM) responses obtained from two-dimensional invariant manifolds. The IMF components can then be used in the context of the NNM method to estimate the properties of the nonlinear elastic structure. A two-degree-of-freedom shear-beam building model is used as an example to illustrate the proposed technique. Numerical results show that combining the EMD and the NNM method provides a possible means for obtaining nonlinear properties in a structure.

In this paper, we propose a new scheme to generate multi-view images utilizing depth map decomposition and adaptive edge smoothing. After carrying out smooth filtering based on an adaptive window size to regions of edges in the depth map, we decompose the smoothed depth map into four types of images: regular mesh, object boundary, feature point, and number-of-layer images. Then, we generate 3-D scenes from the decomposed images using a 3-D mesh triangulation technique. Finally, we extract multi-view images from the reconstructed 3-D scenes by changing the position of a virtual camera in the 3-D space. Experimental results show that our scheme generates multi-view images successfully by minimizing a rubber-sheet problem using edge smoothing, and renders consecutive 3-D scenes in real time through information decomposition of depth maps. In addition, the proposed scheme can be used for 3-D applications that need the depth information, such as depth keying, since we can preserve the depth data unlike the previous unsymmetric filtering method.

Thin-walled multicell box girders subjected to an eccentric load can be produced the three global behaviors of flexure, torsion, and distortion. But it is very difficult to evaluate each influences of major behaviors numerically. If we can decompose an eccentric load P into flexural, torsional, and distortional forces, we can execute quantitative analysis each influences of major behaviors. Decomposition of Applied Load for Thin-walled Rectangular multi-cell box girders is researched by Park, Nam-Hoi(Development of a multicell Box Beam Element Including Distortional Degrees of Freedom, 2003). But researches about thin-walled trapezoidal multi-cell section is insufficient. So, this paper deals with decomposition process and independent analysis method of multi-cell box girders include trapezoidal section.
Exploiting block diagonal geometric mean decomposition (BD-GMD) for the multi-user MIMO broadcast channels, each user can achieve identical received SNRs for its subchannels. Thus, equal rate modulation can be applied to each user. Using BD-GMD, we can apply an adaptive modulation to each user with the required bit error rate (BER). In this paper, we propose an adaptive modulation algorithm for the multi-user MIMO broadcast channels with BD-GMD to maximize the system throughput satisfying the required BER performance.
The computational efficiency of flow simulations with Multi-resolution analysis (MRA) was enhanced via the boundary treatment of the computational domain. In MRA, an adaptive dataset to a solution is constructed through data decomposition with interpolating polynomial and thresholding. During the decomposition process, the basis points of interpolation should exceed the boundary of the computational domain. In order to resolve this problem, the weight coefficients of interpolating polynomial were adjusted near the boundaries. By this boundary treatment, the computational efficiency of MRA was enhanced while the numerical accuracy of a solution was unchanged. This modified MRA was applied to two-dimensional steady Euler equations and the enhancement of computational efficiency and the maintenance of numerical accuracy were assessed.

SVD(Singular Value Decomposition) filter for the suppression of EMG in multi-lead stress ECG is studied. SVD filter consists of two parts. In the first part, the basis vectors were chosen from the averaged singular vectors obtained from the decomposed noise-free ECG. The singular vector is computed from the stress ECG and is compared itself with basis vectors to know whether the noise exist in stress ECG. In the second part, the existing elimination method is used, when one(or two) channels is(or are) contaminated by noise. But the proposed enhanced SVD filter is used in case of having the noise in the many channels. During signal decomposition and reconstruction, the noise-free channel or the least noisy channel have the weight of 1, the next less noisy channel has the weight of 0.8. In this way, every channel was weighted by decreased of 0.2 in proportion to the amount of the added noise. For the evaluation of the proposed enhanced SVD filter, we compared the SNR computed by the enhanced SVD filter with the standard average filter for the noise-free signal added with artificial noise and the patient data. The proposed SVD filter showed better in the SNR than the standard average filter. In conclusion, we could find that the enhanced SVD filter is more proper in processing multi-lead stress ECG.

In this work, a multi-block/multi-partitioning method is suggested for a multi-block parallelization. It has an advantage of uniform load balance via subdividing of each block on each processor. To make a comparison of parallel efficiency according to domain decomposition method, a multi-block/single-partitioning and a multi-block/ multi-partitioning methods are applied to the flow analysis solver. The multi-block/ multi-partitioning method has more satisfactory parallel efficiency because of optimized load balancing. Finally, it has applied to the CFDS code. As a result, the computing speed with sixteen processors is over twelve times faster than that of sequential solver.
