  • The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the plan reflecting the place in cultural regeneration was implemented and whether it was a change of place in culture through culture analyze. Mullae-dong has changed its urban structure into a textile factory, a manufacturing industry, an ironworks+artistic complex, and the Mullae art factory has been organizing a festival that has been created by artists and residents alike in the Mullae creative village. However, prior to the creation of the Mullae art factory in the social element, self-sustaining programs of Mullae creative villages were derived, but now commercial space is mainly derived. Therefore, it is necessary to plan for coexistence of ironworks, cultural space and commercial space rather than expanding into commercial space. Geumcheon-gu Geumcheon-gu Geumcheon Art Factory has become an integrated complex where various industries coexist in industrial complex. Geumcheon Art Factory also holds an artist support program every year and actively works as an international creative exchange center in Seoul. However, programs that act as a mediator are not implemented since 2014, and the Open Studio stops once a year. Therefore, Geumcheon-gu needs to expand programs that can include local programs and programs that can be combined with local cultural media.

This study found out the new possibility of not only artist network, but also networks of local villagers and iron factory workers, and considered in-depth analysis of new genre public art in Mullae art village focusing on their active participations in art programs. By analyzing the artists' stories through interviews, low-cost rental accommodation brought a influx of artists into the village, and they formed their artist networks working by themselves. At this point, this could be judged a critical phenomenon in accordance with Adorno's mimesis. However, by external pressures such as government policies for setting up Mullae Art factory or downtown redevelopment, artists sought independent role in Mullae-dong and doing active public art programs grounded on mimesis. Artists were seeking a way to cope with the economy mechanism doing new genre of public art based on mimesis, and found out the possibility of formation of relationships with local residents and iron factory workers. This study was seemed to suggest the direction of new genre of public art through Mullae art village case, and considers new political measure plans for culture and art policy.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of visitors' sense of place on regeneration space using idle industrial facilities on visitors' satisfaction and length of stay. For this purpose, this study selected Mullae Art Village in Seoul as a study site and conducted a questionnaire survey focused on visitors. The results of an exploratory factor analysis (EFA), reliability analysis and multiple regression analysis show that among the sense of place factors of Mullae Art Village 'Attractiveness' and 'Meaningfulness' have a positive influence on visitor satisfaction and length of stay. 'Attractiveness' was found to be the most influential factor. 'Historicity' was found to have no effects on visitor satisfaction and length of stay. In addition, visitor satisfaction has a positive influence on duration of stay. These results suggest that it is important to analyze the sense of place of idle industrial facilities. It will be a useful guide for urban space planners in revitalizing and establishing a marketing strategy for these spaces.

  • This research is aimed at providing the possibility for overcoming the current people's status of exclusion and fragmented spaces of urban regions. In this context, it needs to be considered that how the social movements, which are in collusion with spatial characteristics, are proceeding in urban societies. In order to find the clue to such problems, this study is going to investigate the social practice especially based on Lefebvre's theory. Because of the abstract characteristics of Lefebvre's issue, an explicit case of that social theory must be contemplated for practical use of his concepts. For the purpose of proposing such practices, this research has been striving to analyze the case of Mullae Art Village through the method of intelviewing the artists of that place and using the statistical data. And then this research has tried to draw the clue about how to overcome the status of exclusion by considering their spatial movements.

  • Gentrification is the process by which a working class or other disadvantaged area of a city changes into a middle class residential or commercial district. Gentrification, which has received much attention in arts management in recent years as part of a concern with urban regeneration, carries a generally negative connotation. In this paper, we interrogate this negative view of gentrification to explore ways arts entrepreneurship can convert the perceived threat of gentrification into opportunity. To this end, we examine the Mullae Cultural Salon in the gentrifying district of the Mullae Creative Village. Through a literature review of gentrification and arts entrepreneurship, we propose seven elements of art entrepreneurs responding to gentrification as an analytic framework for research. Our findings indicate that arts entrepreneurs were able to extend the maturity phase of gentrification and thus enhance the cultural and artistic value of the region for other artists and arts entrepreneurs.
