An Adaptive De-blocking Algorithm in Low Bit-rate Video Coding (저 비트율 비디오를 위한 적응적 블록킹 현상 제거 기법)

  • Most video codecs including the international standards use the block-based hybrid structure for efficient compression. But for low bit-rate applications such as video transmission through wireless channels, the blocking artifacts degrade image qualify seriously. In this paper, we propose an adaptive de-blocking algorithm using characteristics of the block boundaries. Blocking artifacts contain the high frequency components near the block boundaries, therefore the lowpass filtering can remove them. However, simple lowpass filtering results into blurring by removing important information such as edges. To overcome this problem, we determine the modes depending upon the characteristics of pixels adjacent to block boundary then proper filter is applied to each area. Simulation results show that proposed method improves de-blocking performance compared to that of MPEG-4.

Error Concealment Based on Semantic Prioritization with Hardware-Based Face Tracking

  • With video compression standards such as MPEG-4, a transmission error happens in a video-packet basis, rather than in a macroblock basis. In this context, we propose a semantic error prioritization method that determines the size of a video packet based on the importance of its contents. A video packet length is made to be short for an important area such as a facial area in order to reduce the possibility of error accumulation. To facilitate the semantic error prioritization, an efficient hardware algorithm for face tracking is proposed. The increase of hardware complexity is minimal because a motion estimation engine is efficiently re-used for face tracking. Experimental results demonstrate that the facial area is well protected with the proposed scheme.

Video Content Manipulation Using 3D Analysis for MPEG-4

  • This paper is concerned with realistic mainpulation of content in video sequences. Manipulation of content in video sequences is one of the content-based functionalities for MPEG-4 Visual standard. We present an approach to synthesizing video sequences by using the intermediate outputs of three-dimensional (3D) motion and depth analysis. For concreteness, we focus on video showing 3D motion of an observer relative to a scene containing planar runways (or roads). We first present a simple runway (or road) model. Then, we describe a method of identifying the runway (or road) boundary in the image using the Point of Heading Direction (PHD) which is defined as the image of, the ray along which a camera moves. The 3D motion of the camera is obtained from one of the existing 3D analysis methods. Then, a video sequence containing a runway is manipulated by (i) coloring the scene part above a vanishing line, say blue, to show sky, (ii) filling in the occluded scene parts, and (iii) overlaying the identified runway edges and placing yellow disks in them, simulating lights. Experimental results for a real video sequence are presented.

  • In this paper, a new approach is proposed for the error detection dedicated to MPEG-4 video coding by using the digital watermarking. In the process of encoding, the proposed scheme abstracts the macroblock features of headers, motion vectors, and Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) coefficients, which are embedded in the quantized DCT coefficients as the digital watermarks. The decoder performs the accurate error detection through the watermark extraction. Simulation results demonstrate that the error detection ability of the proposed approach can be significantly enhanced, and that digital watermark embedding incurs little degradation to the picture quality.

  • Efficient video data storage and search techniques are essential for DVR-based security systems. We have designed appropriate data structures and search techniques for efficient image storage and search, in this study. The date and time can be saved and searched as a folder form. The overall system is designed for MPEG4 CODEC. It can handle variable sizes of frames (100bytes $^{\sim}$ 6Kbytes) produced by MPEG4 CODEC without errors. We also have developed image transmission techniques through inter-net networking.

  • In this paper, we proposed that technique for reducing trailing artifact in MPEG-4 video. low bit-rate video is occured trailng artifact which remain part of moving object. Because MEMC doesn't work well in the degraded video. The proposed trailing artifact reduction approach has at its core three main steps. First step is to detect trailing artifact. Second step is applied intra block coding to remove trailing artifact. Finally, bit-rate control algorithm is used. Experimental result using an MPEG-4 based encoder indicate that the proposed method has overhead(bits) of about 2 percent and proposed method effective reduce or eliminate trailing artifact

  • With the developing of current multimedia broadcasting, user will be provided for lots of various content through the various channel and media. Content provider and consumer want the various service using content with the better quality which is fit to users' preference. For transmitting this content in the limited transmission channel capacity, it needs to transmit the highly compressed content. The content of 3D mesh model-based on MPEG-4 enables the various content service that provides the lower size and the resonable quality, and Personalize(Targeting) service just provide the contents that user more wants and likes. This paper presents the study on the targeting service using compression of 3D mesh model-based on MPEG-4 and the adaptation of Embedded Graphic application program using it.

  • 본 논문에서는 동영상의 계층적 부호화의 효율을 높이기 위한 방안에 대해 연구하였다. 단일 계층부호화에 비해 다 계층부호화는 계산량이 많아진다. 따라서 계층적 부호화의 장점을 살리고 단점을 보완하는 방안을 제시하였다. 우선 인코더에서 고급계층의 복잡도를 줄이기 위하여 고급계층의 참조 형태를 P-VOP (Prediction-Video Object Plane)만으로 정한다. 고급계층의 참조 영역으로 사용되는 업샘플링된 VOP의 횟수를 줄여서 업샘플링에 따른 계산량을 줄인다. 그리고 고급계층의 비트율을 조절하여 Traffic shaping 효과도 얻을 수 있다. 이러한 방법들을 통해 단일 계층 부호화에 비해 다 계층부호화의 장점을 살리고 단점을 보완하는 코덱을 제안한다.

2D Image-Based Individual 3D Face Model Generation and Animation (2차원 영상 기반 3차원 개인 얼굴 모델 생성 및 애니메이션)

  • 본 논문에서는 사람의 정면 얼굴을 찍은 컬러 동영상에서 얼굴의 각 구성 요소에 대한 특징점들을 추출하여 3차원 개인 얼굴 모델을 생성하고 이를 얼굴의 표정 움직임에 따라 애니메이션 하는 방법을 제시한다. 제안된 방법은 얼굴의 정면만을 촬영하도록 고안된 헬멧형 카메라( Head-mounted camera)를 사용하여 얻은 2차원 동영상의 첫 프레임(frame)으로부터 얼굴의 특징점들을 추출하고 이들과 3차원 일반 얼굴 모델을 바탕으로 3차원 얼굴 특징점들의 좌표를 산출한다. 표정의 변화는 초기 영상의 특징점 위치와 이 후 영상들에서의 특징점 위치의 차이를 기반으로 알아낼 수 있다. 추출된 특징점 및 얼굴 움직임은 보다 다양한 응용 이 가능하도록 최근 1단계 표준이 마무리된 MPEG-4 SNHC의 FDP(Facial Definition Parameters)와FAP(Facial Animation Parameters)의 형식으로 표현되며 이를 이용하여 개인 얼굴 모델 및 애니메이션을 수행하였다. 제안된 방법은 단일 카메라로부터 촬영되는 영상을 기반으로 이루어지는 MPEG-4 기반 화상 통신이나 화상 회의 시스템 등에 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.

  • To develop the broadcasting application for DMB, the programmers have to aggregate the content. In this case of content such as news, it would be hard to provide successively updated content. This paper introduces a creation system which can automatically create the news application for data broadcasting on DMB based on the web news content updated immediately. The designed creation system aggregates the news content using RSS based XML and produces the news application by transcoding the web content which can be applied on DMB.
