  • A Computational study was carried out in order to investigate the moving wall effect of a circular cylinder at a Reynolds number of $2.0{\times}10^4$. The viscous-incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and Spalart-Almaras turbulent model of the commercial CFD code were adopted for this numerical analysis. The moving wall was set parallel with the freestream, and moving speed was equal to the freestream velocity. The gap ratio is defined as the distance ratio between the circular cylinder diameter and the height from the moving wall. The results show that there is vortex shedding over the critical gap ratio and aerodynamic loads including amplitude and the Strouhal number change according to the gap ratio.

  • Direct numerical simulations of turbulent channel flows with moving wall conditions on the top wall are performed to examine the effects of the moving wall on the turbulent characteristics. The moving wall velocity only applied to the top wall with the opposite direction to the main flow is systematically varied to reveal the sustained-mechanism for turbulence. The turbulence statistics for the Couette-Poiseuille flow, such as mean velocity, root mean square of the velocity fluctuations, Reynolds shear stress and pre-multiplied energy spectra of the velocity fluctuations, are compared with those of canonical turbulent channel flows. The comparison suggests that although the turbulent activity on the top wall increases with increasing the Reynolds number, that on the bottom wall decreases, contrary to the previous finding for the canonical turbulent channel flows. The increase of the turbulent energy on the top wall is attributed to not only the increase of the Reynolds number but also elongation of the logarithmic layer due to increase of the wall layer on the top wall. However, because the logarithmic layer is shortened on the bottom wall due to the decrease of the wall layer, the turbulence energy on the bottom wall decreases despite of the increase of the Reynolds number.

  • A Computational study was carried out in order to investigate the aerodynamic characteristics of circular cylinder moving near the wavy wall at a low Reynolds number of 50. Lattice Boltzmann method was used to simulate the flow field and immersed boundary method was combined to represent the moving cylinder and wavy wall regardless of the constructed grid in the domain. The aerodynamics characteristics of the cylinder moving near the wavy wall were represented by the comparing the lifting coefficients with various altitudes (H/D) and wave length and amplitudes of wavy wall. It indicated that the twice of increasing-decreasing variations of lifting coefficient are obtained while the cylinder moves near the wavy wall. The first variation is obtained where the cylinder locates near the peak of the wavy wall. Another variation occurs when the distance to the wavy wall becomes longer after passing the peak. It was also classified that three different patterns of relation between the lifting and drag coefficient of the cylinder. However, the classification is limited to the case of the same order of altitude, amplitude and wave length of the wavy wall.

  • A computational study was carried out in order to investigate the ground effect of a circular cylinder in the presence of a moving wall at a Reynolds number of 2.0${\times}$104. The viscous-incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and Spalart-Allmaras turbulent model of the commercial CFD code were adopted for this numerical analysis. The moving wall was set parallel with the freestream, and the speed of motion was equal to the freestream velocity. The gap ratio is defined as the distance ratio between the circular cylinder diameter and the height from the moving wall. The numerical results show that there are the differences among the each of the stages in evidence of the vorticity contours and the polar diagrams of $C_l$ vs. $C_d$. The 4 stages of the gap ratio are defined according to the flow features, whose stages are divided into small, intermediate, large and convergence gap ratios, respectively.

  • A two-dimensional immiscible droplet deformation phenomena on moving wall in a channel has been investigated by using lattice Boltzmann method involving two-phase model. The dependence of the deformation of the droplet with different sizes on the contact angle and the velocity of bottom wall has studied. When the bottom wall starts to move, the deformation of the droplet occurs. For the largest bottom wall velocity, eventually, the deformation of the droplet is classified into the three patterns according to the contact angle.

  • The present study numerically investigates the interaction between a free-surface and flow around a circular cylinder over a moving wall. In order to simulate the flow past the circular cylinder over a moving wall near a free-surface, this study has adopted the direct-forcing/fictitious domain (DF/FD) method with the level set method in the Cartesian coordinates. Numerical simulation is performed for a Reynolds numbers of 100 in the range of $0.25{\leq}g/D{\leq}2.00$ and $0.5{\leq}h/D{\leq}2.00$, where g/D and h/D are the gaps between the cylinder and a moving wall and the cylinder and a free-surface normalized by cylinder diameter D, respectively. According to g/D and h/D, the vortex structures have been classified into three patterns of the two-row, one-row, steady elongation. In general, both of g/D and h/D have the large values which mean the cylinder is far away from the wall and the free-surface, two-row vortex structure forms in the wake. When g/D decreases, the two-row vortex structure gradually transfers into the one-row vortex structure. When the g/D reveals the critical value below which the flow becomes steady state, resulting in the steady elongation vortex.

  • Immersed boundary method (IBM) is the most effective method to overcome the disadvantage of LBM (Lattice Boltzmann Method) related to the limitation of the grid shape. IBM also make LBM possible to simulate flow over complex shape of obstacle without any treatment on the curved boundary. In the research, IBLBM was used to perform LBM simulation of a flow over a moving circular cylinder to determine the flow feature and aerodynamics characteristic of the cylinder. To ascertain the applicability of IBLBM on the moving obstacle near the wall, it was first simulated for the case of the flow over a fixed circular cylinder in a channel and the results were compared against the solution of moving cylinder in the channel using IBLBM. The simulations were performed in a moderate range of Reynolds number at each moving cylinder to identify the flow feature and aerodynamic characteristics of circular cylinder in a channel. The drag and lift coefficients of the cylinder were calculated from the simulation results. We have numerically confirmed that the critical Reynolds number for vortex shedding is Re=50 and the result is the same as the case of fixed cylinder. As the cylinder approaching to a wall (${\gamma}<2.5$), the 2nd vortex is developed by interacting with the wall boundary-layer vorticity. When the cylinder is very closed to the wall, ${\gamma}<0.6$, the cylinder acts like blockage to block the flow between the cylinder and wall so that the vortex developed on the upper cylinder elongated and time averaged lifting and drag coefficients abruptly increase.

  • This paper studies the dynamics of the lineal-located time-harmonic moving-with-constant-velocity load which acts on the hydro-elastic system consisting of the elastic plate, compressible viscous fluid - strip and rigid wall. The plane-strain state in the plate is considered and its motion is described by employing the exact equations of elastodynamics but the plane-parallel flow of the fluid is described by the linearized Navier-Stokes equations. It is assumed that the velocity and force vectors of the constituents are continuous on the contact plane between the plate and fluid, and impermeability conditions on the rigid wall are satisfied. Numerical results on the velocity and stress distributions on the interface plane are presented and discussed and the focus is on the influence of the effect caused by the interaction between oscillation and moving of the external load. During these discussions, the corresponding earlier results by the authors are used which were obtained in the cases where, on the system under consideration, only the oscillating or moving load acts. In particular, it is established that the magnitude of the aforementioned interaction depends significantly on the vibration phase of the system.

  • CMBT(Curved Moving Boundary Treatment) is a newly developed scheme for the treatment of a no slip condition on the curved solid wall of moving obstacle in a flow field. In our research CMBT was used to perform LBM simulation of a flow over a moving circular cylinder to determine the flow feature and aerodynamics characteristic of the cylinder. To ascertain the applicability of CMBT on the complex shape of the obstacle, it was first simulated for the case of the flow over a fixed circular cylinder in a channel and the results were compared against the solution of Navier-Stokes equation with deforming mesh technique. The simulations were performed in a moderate range of reynolds number at each moving cylinder to identify the flow feature and aerodynamic characteristics of circular cylinder in a channel. The drag coefficients of the cylinder were calculated from the simulation results. We have numerically confirmed that the critical reynolds number for vortex shedding is ar Re=250 and the result is the same as the case of fixed cylinder. As the cylinder approaching to one wall, the 2nd vortex is developed by interacting with the wall boundary-layer vorticity. As the velocity ratio increase the third vortex are generated by interacting with the 2nd vortexes developed on the upper and lower wall boundary layer. The resultant $C_d$ decrease as reynolds number increasing and the Cd approached to a value when Re>1000.

  • The paper studies the fluid flow profile contained between the orthotropic plate and rigid wall under the action of the moving load on the plate and main attention is focused on the fluid velocity profile in the load moving direction. It is assumed that the plate material is orthotropic one and the fluid is viscous and barotropic compressible. The plane-strain state in the plate and the plane flow of the fluid is considered. The motion of the plate is described by utilizing the exact equations of elastodynamics for anisotropic bodies, however, the flow of the fluid by utilizing the linearized Navier-Stokes equations. For the solution of the corresponding boundary value problem, the moving coordinate system associated with the moving load is introduced, after which the exponential Fourier transformation is employed with respect to the coordinate which indicates the distance of the material points from the moving load. The exact analytical expressions for the Fourier transforms of the sought values are obtained, the originals of which are determined numerically. Presented numerical results and their analyses are focused on the question of how the moving load acting on the face plane of the plate which is not in the contact with the fluid can cause the fluid flow and what type profile has this flow along the thickness direction of the strip filled by the fluid and, finally, how this profile changes ahead and behind with the distance of the moving load.
