In this study, the velocity characteristics of liquid elements formed by two impinging jets is analysed using double pulse image capturing technique. For the droplets formed by low speed impinging jets, the droplet velocities are higher with smaller azimuthal and impingement angle. The maximum droplet velocities are about 25 % lower than jet velocity. With an increase of azimuthal angle, the shedding angles increases but remains lower than azimuthal angle. The velocities of ligaments formed by high speed impinging jets gradually decreases with an increase of azimuthal angle. The maximum ligament velocities are about 40 % lower than jet velocity. Higher impingement angles produce lower ligament velocities. The shedding angles of ligament almost increases with the same value of azimuthal angle, which implies that the moving direction of ligaments is radial from the origin as the impingement point.

The bending process for the "ㄱ" section product can be developed by the hot metal extrusion machine with the two punches moving in the different velocity. The bending phenomenon can be controlled by difference of velocity at the die exit section by the different velocity of billets through the two-hole container. The results of the experiment show that "ㄱ" section product can be bended by the extrusion process and that the curvature of the product can be controlled by the velocity of punch and that the defects such as the distortion of section and the thickness change of the product and the folding and wrinkling of the product did not happen after the bending processing by the extrusion bending machine.

When a straight channel formed by two parallel porous plates, through which two immiscible liquids occupying different heights are flowing a secondary motion is set up. The motion is caused by moving the upper plate with a uniform velocity about an axis perpendicular to the plates. The solutions are exact solutions. Here we discuss the effect of suction parameter and the position of interface on the flow phenomena in case of Couette flow. The velocity distributions for the primary and secondary flows have been discussed and presented graphically. The skin-friction amplitude at the upper and lower plates has been discussed for various physical parameters.
In the recent years flow around bridges are investigated using computer modeling. Selvam (1998), Selvam and Bosch (1999), Frandsen and McRobie (1999) used finite element procedures. Larsen and Walther (1997) used discrete vorticity procedure. The aeroelastic instability is a major criterion to be checked for long span bridges. If the wind speed experienced by a bridge is greater than the critical wind speed for flutter, then the bridge fails due to aeroelastic instability. Larsen and Walther (1997) computed the critical velocity for flutter using discrete vortex method similar to wind tunnel procedures. In this work, the critical velocity for flutter will be calculated directly (free oscillation procedure) similar to the approaches reported by Selvam et al. (1998). It is expected that the computational time required to compute the critical velocity using this approach may be much shorter than the traditional approach. The computed critical flutter velocity of 69 m/s is in reasonable comparison with wind tunnel measurement. The no flutter and flutter conditions are illustrated using the bridge response in time.
Cu-matrix sintered brake pads and low-alloy heat-resistant steel are commonly applied to basic brake systems in high-energy moving machines. In this research, we analyzed the tribological characteristics to determine the influence of the air velocity between the disk and pad. At a low brake pressure with airflow, the friction stability was decreased as a result of the lack of tribofilm formation at the disk surface. However, there were no significant changes in the friction coefficient under any of the test conditions. The wear rates of the friction materials were decreased with an increase in the airflow velocity. As a result, the airflow velocity influenced the friction stability, as well as the wear rate of the friction materials and disk, but not the friction coefficient.

This research presents several velocity modification methods for collision avoidance of two manipulators in a common workspace. Due to the distinct nature of collision avoidance between the two manipulators, a new classification of collision situations is presented and utilized in planning a collision-free path. Concepts of a collision map and velocity modification are applied for realizing collision-free motion planning. An example is shown for velocity modification of a trajectory, which shows the significance of the proposed approaches in collision-free motion planneng of two moving robots.
In the velocimeter, the ultrasonic pulse signal is used for measuring the profile velocity of moving targets distributed in space because of the merits of its high distance resolution and harmless affect to the human body. The velocity reading in conventional ultrasonic pulsed velocimeter depends on the wave pattern reflecting the spatial distribution of scatters and includes observational error due to the signal processing of analyzing pulse signal. In this paper, we evaluate an influence of the received waveform of pulsed signal on the velocity information by setting a model. Subsequently, in order to improve the distance resolution and to obtain precise velocity information without the influence of the spatial distribution of scatterers, we propose a new method for the analysis of Doppler pulsed signal, in which the pulsed signal is transformed into a phase function with local data. Finally, it is confirmed that the performance of the velocimeter is more improved in the proposed method than in the conventional one.

The dynamic particle image velocimetry (PIV) is consisted of a high frequency pulse laser, high speed cameras and a timing controller. The three velocity components of flow downstream of an axial flow fan for PC cooling system are measured using the dynamic PIV system. An Axial flow fan has seven blades of 72 mm in diameter. The rotating speed is 1800 rpm. The downstream flow is visualized by smoke particles of about $0.3-1\;{\mu}m$ in diameter. The three-dimensional instantaneous velocity fields are measured at three downstream planes. The swirl velocity component was diffused downstream and the change in time-mean vorticity distribution downstream was also discussed. The spatio-temporal change in axial velocity component with the blades passing is recognized by the instantaneous vector maps. And the dynamic behavior of vorticity moving with the rotating blades is discussed using the unsteady vorticity maps.

A new algorithm for measuring 3-D velocity components of high speed flows were developed using a digital image processing technique. The measuring system consists of three CCD cameras an optical instrument called AOM a digital image grabber and a host computer. The images of mov-ing particles arranged spatially on a rotation plate are taken by two or three CCD cameras and are recorderd onto the image grabber or a video tape recoder. The three-dimensionl velocity com-ponents of the particles are automatically obtained by the developed algorithm In order to verify the validity of this technique three-dimensional velocity data sets obtained from a computer simu-lation of a backward facing step flow were used as test data for the algorithm. an uncertainty analysis associated with the present algorithm is systematically evaluated, The present technique is proved to be used as a tookl for the measurement of unsteady three-dimensional fluid flows.
