  • "Tracking" here refers to the estimation of a moving object with some degree of accuracy where at least one measurement is given. The measurement, which is the sensor-obtained output, contains systemic errors and errors that are due to the surrounding environment. Tracking filters play the key role of the target-state estimation after the updating of the tracking system; therefore, the type of filter that is used for the conduction of the estimations is crucial in the determining of the reliability of the updated value, and this is especially true since the performances of different filters vary when they are subjected to different environmental and initial conditions. The purpose of this paper is the conduction of a comparison between the performances of the ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter and the Kalman filter regarding an ARPA-system tracking module that is used on board high-dynamic warships. The comparison is based on the capability of each filter to reduce noise and maintain a stable response. The residual error is computed from the difference between the true and predicted positions and the true and estimated positions for the given sample. The results indicate that the tracking accuracy of the Kalman filter is higher compared with that of the optimal ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter; however, the response of the optimal ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter is more stable.

  • This paper proposes a new algorithm for a mobile robot that detects and tracks a moving target, keeping it in the view range of the robot. The sensor system consists of a camera and a line light source. The camera system is placed so that the line light projected into the ground from the light source forms its image along the horizontal center line of the CCD array of the camera. The deformation of the line image from the horizontal center line contains the information on existence of a moving object, its velocity, and position. Since the proposed algorithm reduces the region of the image to be searched, it reduces the computational complexity significantly comparing to the conventional image processing algorithms. The performance of the proposed algorithm has been tested by implementing on a mobile robot.

  • A bistatic radar using the pulse chasing can detect a target to track successive transmitted pulses using a receive beam for effectively scanning the cosite search area. When tracking a transmitted pulse with the receive beam, some beam pointing errors within pulse-to-pulse can cause the timing error in received pulse and the variation of the signal strength. In this paper, we have proposed that some errors due to the receive beam pointing error could limit the MTI filter's performance and derived that the relationship between the MTI performance and the geometric factors which are the inherent properties in bistatic configuration. Through the simulation, we have considered the limitations of the improvement performance restricted by the receiving beam pointing error and confirmed the contribution to the performance improvement in maintaining the receiving beam pointing error of under 0.5 degrees.

  • In this paper, a spatio-temporal gradient (STG) method with generalized least square estimation (GLSE) is proposed for the detection of an object motion in an image sequence corrupted by white Gaussian noise. The proposed method is applied to an automatic target tracker using a high speed 16-bit microprocessor in order to track one moving target in real time. Experimental results show that the proposed method has much better performance over the conventional one with least square estimation (LSE).

  • Recently, the increase in the elderly population due to an aging society has led to a relative increase in senile diseases such as vascular dementia or Alzheimer's disease, and the social burden for rehabilitation has increased. In addition, studies have been conducted for the risk assessment and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders. The purpose of this study is to suggest a system that can be used to help with dementia prevention training by tracking the movement of motion and virtual reality contents for the risk factors of musculoskeletal disorders of the elderly. We propose a training method for preventing dementia through musculoskeletal motion analysis algorithm and virtual reality content. Through motion recognition algorithm based on motion region design, we will track and analyze the moving radius of the target joint. The purpose of this study is to calculate and evaluate scores based on the time to accomplish the goals on virtual reality contents for the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders and the support of dementia prevention training, and the degree of difficulty, and to analyze the correlation between the results of performing K-MMSE and VR contents.

  • In recent years, there has been increased interest in characterizing and extracting 3D information from 2D images for human tracking and identification. In this paper, we propose a single view-based framework for robust estimation of height and position. In the proposed method, 2D features of target object is back-projected into the 3D scene space where its coordinate system is given by a rectangular marker. Then the position and the height are estimated in the 3D space. In addition, geometric error caused by inaccurate projective mapping is corrected by using geometric constraints provided by the marker. The accuracy and the robustness of our technique are verified on the experimental results of several real video sequences from outdoor environments.

  • In recent years, video detection systems have been implemented in various infrastructures such as airport, public transportation, power generation system, water dam and so on. Recognizing moving objects in video sequence is an important problem in computer vision, with applications in several fields, such as video surveillance and target tracking. Segmentation and tracking of multiple vehicles in crowded situations is made difficult by inter-object occlusion. In the system described in this paper, the mean shift algorithm is firstly used to filter and segment a color vehicle image in order to get candidate regions. These candidate regions are then analyzed and classified in order to decide whether a candidate region contains a license plate or not. And then some characters in the license plate is recognized by using the fuzzy ARTMAP neural network, which is a relatively new architecture of the neural network family and has the capability to learn incrementally unlike the conventional BP network. We finally design a license plate recognition system using the mean shift algorithm and fuzzy ARTMAP neural network and show its performance via some computer simulations.

  • In this paper, an 2D spatial-map construction for workers identification and avoidance of AGV using the detection scheme of the spatial coordinates based on stereo camera is proposed. In the proposed system, face area of a moving person is detected from a left image among the stereo image pairs by using the YCbCr color model and its center coordinates are computed by using the centroid method and then using these data, the stereo camera embedded on the mobile robot can be controlled for tracking the moving target in real-time. Moreover, using the disparity map obtained from the left and right images captured by the tracking-controlled stereo camera system and the perspective transformation between a 3-D scene and an image plane, depth map can be detected. From some experiments on AGV driving with 240 frames of the stereo images, it is analyzed that error ratio between the calculated and measured values of the worker's width is found to be very low value of 2.19% and 1.52% on average.

  • Recently, a self-camera that generates and distributes a large amount of moving images has been rapidly increasing due to the appearance of SNS such as Facebook, Instagram, and Tweet using mobile. In particular, the amount of SNS connections using mobile phones is significantly increasing in terms of usage, number of connections, and usage time. However, the use of a self-recording system using a smartphone by itself is extremely limited not only in terms of usage but also in frequency of use. In addition, the conventional unattended recording system is a very expensive system that automatically records and tracks an object to be photographed using an infrared signal. Therefore, this paper developed a low cost unmanned recording system using mobile phone. The system consists of a commercial mobile camera, a servomotor for moving the camera from side to side, a microcontroller for controlling the motor, and a commercial wireless Bluetooth earset for video audio input. And it is an unmanned automation system using mobile, and anyone can record image by self image tracking.

  • This paper proposes a stable gain scheduling method of linear time invariant controllers for tracking servo system. In order to read and write the data on the optical disc, the pick-up head should be moved to the exact track quickly and follow the track immediately. Two different controllers are used for each moving and track-following. In pull-in period, a transition period from moving to track-following, the head might slip and miss the target track. This brings on another searching process and increases the total time. One way to avoid slipping is to extend the bandwidth of the track-following controller. But, extending the bandwidth could degrade the following performance. More prevalent way is to use one more controller in this pull-in period and switch to the following controller. In general, however, switching or scheduling of stable controllers cannot guarantee the stability. This paper suggests an scheduling method guaranteeing the overall stability not only in a generalized form but also in special form for SISO system. The sufficient condition is derived from the fact that Q factor of a stable controller should be stay in $RH_{\infty}$ space. In the experiment, the proposed method shows better performance than the switching method such as shorter time and lower current consumption.
