  • A new method to calculate the aeroacoustic pressure of a centrifugal fan was developed The fan consists of an impeller, diffuser and circular casing. Due to the high rotating velocity and the small gap between the impeller and diffuser, the centrifugal fan makes very high noise level at BPF and its harmonic frequencies. The aeroacoustic pressure is calculated acoustic analogy In this paper, only dipole term is considered in the equation. The acoustics generated by moving impeller and stationary diffuser is calculated separately. The unsteady flow field data is calculated by the vortex method The predicted acoustic pressure agrees very well to the measured data. The difference of the two is smaller than 3dBA.

  • Stress and deformation on forklift happened at loading, unloading or moving freight are studied by structural and fatigue analysis in this study. As model 1 as closing type between forks has lower stress and stain than model 2 at opening type, model 1 has more durability than model 2. Among the cases of nonuniform fatigue loads, 'SAE bracket history' with the severest change of load becomes most unstable but 'Sample history' becomes most stable. In case of 'SAE bracket history' with the severest change of load at model 1 and 2, maximum life is shown with Cycle. Minimum damage with 854 at model 2 becomes much higher than model 1. As the gap between forks becomes open, the damage probability becomes higher. The structural result of this study can be effectively utilized with the safe and stable design of forklift by investigating prevention and durability against its damage.

  • This paper deals with a moving coil type linear motor for fast access of the miniature ODD. This slim-line motor is composed of the mover supported by guide mechanism, the coil wound into it, and the yoke attached to the permanent magnet for stator. The driving force is generated by the PM of the stator and the current in the coil of the mover. Magnetic circuit analysis and Finite Element Method are applied to estimate force at air gap. • The capacitive sensor has a simple structure, compact size and low cost, but a small dynamic range. The small range is caused by use of gap variation. If the sensor takes area variation type with one plate moving horizontally, it can have a large measurable range. While the area variation has relatively low sensitivity, some studies have found methods to improve the sensitivity. Even though the methods are effective, parameters of the results are limited and 2 dimensional. This study provides more practical and 3 dimensional analysis and suggests relations between parameters. Using the results, the optimized design parameters of a high dynamic range capacitive sensor can be found.

  • The Electro-Rheological (ER) fluid has been used to the ultraprecision polishing of single crystal silicon as new polishing slurry whose properties such as yield stress and particle structure changed with the application of an electric field. In this work, it is aimed to find the effective parameters in the ER fluid on material removal in the polishing system whose structure is similar to that of the simple hydrodynamic bearing. The generated pressure in the gap between a moving wall and a workpiece, as well as the electric field-induced stress of the mixture of ER fluid-abrasives, is evaluated experimentally, and their influence on the polishing of single crystal silicon is analyzed. Moreover, the behavior of abrasive and ER particles is described.

  • By tilting the reference mirror of Twynman-Green interferometer having a reference mirror and a moving mirror, firinge pattern composed of bright and dark parallel lines can be obtained and the fringe pattern is shifted according to the displacement of the mowing mirror. Several studies are executed for displacement measurement by detecting the intensity of the fringe with photo-diodes having small detecting area. In this study, to improve the sensitivity and robustness, the intensity of fringe is detected by using a large-area quadratic photo-diode masked with a grating panel having four kinds of binary grating having phase-difference of 0, {\pi}$/4, {\pi}$/2, 3 {\pi}$/4. The phase of the fringe is calculated with a simple 4-buckets algorithm. A experimental result shows that standard deviation of 5.653 nm is obtained comparing with a capacitive type gap sensor having nearly 1 nm accuracy.

  • For the efficient utilization of the solar thermal energy to overcome the time gap between to supply and demand, an efficient heat storage technique, especially high density-latent-heat storage system, is necessary. In this study, the performance of a panel type latent heat storage equipment during heat discharging process was analyzed theoretically and experimentally. In order to find out the performance of the system, computer simulation programs were developed by finite difference method. The governing equations were constructed by two dimensional heat conduction model with moving boundary. The results of the experimental and the theoretical analysis were reasonably well agreed. The efficiencies of the double pipe type and the panel type latent heat storage equipment were compared.

  • The electrochemical machining of carbon steel was carried in various electrolytes which contain NACl and $NaCIO_3$. Though electrolyte containg NaCl yields fast machining rate, dimensional control is rather difficult. In the case of electrolyte with $NaCIO_3$, dimensional control of anode shape can be obtained through modification of cathode design. Mathematical modeling is also performed for these systems and agreements are good compared with experimental date. The constant gap experiment butween two electrode yielded faster machining rate than constant cathode moving rate experiment.

  • A lot of robot trajectory tracking methods are proposed to enhance the tracking error, but irregular tracking errors are always accompanied and very hard to reduce it. Up to now, these irregular tracking errors are reduced by introducing more complicated control algorithms. But, it is intuitively obvious to reduce only the big errors selectively in the irregular ones for the better performance instead of using more complicated control algorithms. By the characteristics of the robot, big tracking errors of the end-effector are generated mostly due to the fast moving of joint. So, in this paper, we introduce a new method which reduce the big tracking errors by clippings the joint velocity with the constraint of given path. Using this method, desired trajectory tracking is obtained within the far reduced error bound. Also, this method is successfully applied to generate the path-constrained error reducing trajectories for 2-axis SCARA type robot.
