The meshing of the domain has long been the major bottleneck in performing the finite element analysis. Research efforts which are so-called meshfree methods have recently been directed towards eliminating or at least easing the requirement for meshing of the domain. In this paper, a new meshfree method for solving nonlinear boundary value problem, based on the bubble packing technique and Delaunay triangle is proposed. The method can be efficiently implemented to the problems with singularity by using formly distributed nodes.
A method is presented for generating the path which significantly reduces residual vibration of the redundant, flexible robot manipulator in the presence of obstacles. The desired path is optimally designed so that the system completes the required move with minimum residual vibration, avoiding obstacles. The dynamic model and optimal path are effectively formulated and computed by using special moving coordinate, called VLCS, to represent the link flexibility. The path to be designed is developed by a combined Fourier series and polynomial function to satisfy both the convergence and boundary condition matching problems. The concept of correlation coefficients is used to select the minimum number of design variables. A planar three-link manipualtor is used to evaluate this method. Results show that residual vibration can be drastically reduced by selecting an appropriate path, in the presence of obstacles.
This paper presents a simplified analytical formulation for computing acoustic power radiation from a rectangular plate exposed to random forces such as turbulent boundary layer pressure fluctuations and arbitrary mechanical force in a subsonic flow field. The expression for the acoustic power is derived using modal expansion method and light fluid loading is assumed on the plate. In order to simplify the formulation for acoustic power due to combined excitations of mechanical forces and turbulent pressures, it is assumed that the structural damping of the plate is small and excitations are broadband random forces having frequency spectra above the convective coincidence. Under these assumptions, an approximate solution for the broadband acoustic power radiation from a plate excited by both turbulent pressures and arbitrary mechanical forces is obtained and evaluated considering the effect of modal coupling on the radiated acoustic power. An efficient method is also suggested to compute modal acoustic impedance in a moving fluid medium by using averaged Green function.

The motion of a floating body and the free surface flow are the most important design considerations for ships and offshore platforms. In the present research, a numerical method is developed to simulate the motion of a floating body and the free surface using a fixed rectilinear grid system. The governing equations are the continuity equation and Naviere-Stokes equations. The boundary of a moving body is defined by the interaction points of the body surface and the centerline of a grid. To simulate the free surface the Modified Marker-Density method is implemented. Ships advancing in regular waves, the interaction of waves by a fixed circular cylinder array and the response amplitude operators of an offshore platform are simulated and the results are compared with published research data to check the applicability. The numerical method developed in this research gives results good enough for application to the initial design stage.
With continued miniaturization and development of new devices, the highly nonuniform oxidation of three-dimensional non-planar silicon structures plays an increasingly important role. In this paper, the three-dimensional finite element numerical simulator. Grwoth of oxide is a coupled process of diffusion of oxidant and deformation of oxide. Because boundaries of oxide are moved in each time step and LOCOS structure is formed three-dimensional shape of sruface, it is necessary to develope an efficient node control algorithm that can locally generate and eliminate the node. Therefore we have developed the optimized three-dimensional mesh generator which is cpable of refining and eliminating the meshes at the moving boundary of oxide, and hve developed three-dimensional finite element oxidation solver.
The FDS-HCIB method is expanded to simulate water-oil-air flows around oil booms under relative motion, which is intended to increase the thickness of contained oil. The FDS scheme captures discontinuity in the density field and abrupt change of the tangential velocity across an interface without smearing. The HCIB method handles relative motions of thin oil booms with ease. To validate the developed FDS-HCIB code for water-oil-air flow around a moving body, the computed results are compared with the reported experimental results on the shape, length, and thickness of the oil slicks under towing. It is observed that the increase in pressure field between two barriers lifts the oil slick and the interfacial wave propagates and reflects as one barrier gets closer to the other barrier.
The screen doors installed in the station of subway are subject to the train-wind pressure caused by the operation of trains. The train-wind pressure has to be correctly estimated for the design of safe structure of screen doors. As three-dimensional numerical flow analysis technology has been significantly developed, the analysis on the train-wind pressure with diverse variables such as train specifications, train speed, tunnel and station configurations, and blockage ratio can be effectively carried out with three-dimensional numerical method. In this study, computational analysis of train-induced wind in a subway tunnel employing the screen doors are carried out by using the three-dimensional numerical method with the model of the moving boundary for the run of trains. While the numerical analysis of train-wind pressure was applied on the one island-type station in the Seoul Subway Line 2, maximum pressure of 494 Pa was estimated on the screen door when two trains pass each other at the speed of 80km/h in the platform.
This article described the numerical investigation of shear-thinning blood flow characteristics when subjected to longitudinal and transverse vibrations and delineated the underlying mechanisms of the flow rate enhancements, respectively. In order to fully consider the mechanical vibrations of the capillary, a moving wall boundary condition was adopted. The present numerical results showed that the longitudinal vibration caused a significant increase of wall shear rates, which resulted in a decrease of viscosity and the subsequent increase of flow rates. However, the shear rate for the transverse vibration was slightly increased and the calculated flow rate was underestimated comparing with the previous experimental results.
For the estimation of chatter lobe boundary it is very important to calculate the natural mode of cutting process. There are many time series algorithms for getting the natural mode of structural endmilling dynamics considering the cutting process. In this study, we have compared several time series methods such as AR algorithm, ARX, ARMAX, ARMA, Box Jenkins, Output Error, Recursive ARX, Recursive ARMAX considering the sampling frequency. As a results, the ARX, ARMAX and IV 4 are more desirable algorithms for the calculation of modal parameters such as natural frequency and damping ratio In endmilling operation. Also these algorithms may be adopted for the natural mode estimation of endmilling operation for chatter lobe prediction.
Nd:YAG pulse laser fillet welding of stainless steel plate was simulated to find welding condition by using commercial finite element code MARC. Full model of AISI 304 stainless steel plate was considered and user subroutines were applied to boundary condition for the heat transfer. Material properties such as conductivity, specific heat, mass density and latent heat were given as a function of temperature. As results, Three dimensional heat source model for pulse laser beam conditions of fillet welding has been designed by the comparison between the finite element analysis results and experimental data on AISI 304 stainless steel plate. Nd:YAG laser welding for AISI 304 stainless steel was successfully simulated and it should be useful to determine optimal welding condition.
