A collision-free trajectory planning algorithm is proposed to optimally coordinate two robots working in a common 3-D workspace. Each link of the two robots is modeled as a line segment and by their motion priority, one of the two robots is chosen as the master and the other the slave. And the one-step-ahead minimum distance between the two robots is computed by moving the master to the next location on its specified trajectory. Then the nominal trajectory of the slave is modified such that the distance between the next locations of the master and the slave must be larger than a prespecified allowable minimum distance. Here the weighted sum of the trajectory error and the joint motions of the slave is minimized by using the linear programming technique under the constraints that joint angle and velocity limits are not violated. To show the validity of the proposed algorithm, a numerical example is illustrated by employing a two dof's and a three dof's planar robots.
In this paper, a robust feature compensation method to deal with the environmental mismatch is proposed. The proposed method applies energy based weights according to the degree of speech presence to the Mean subtraction, Variance normalization, and ARMA filtering (MVA) processing. The weights are further smoothed by the moving average and maximum filters. The proposed feature compensation algorithm is evaluated on AURORA 2 task and distant talking experiment using the robot platform, and we obtain error rate reduction of 14.4 % and 44.9 % by using the proposed algorithm comparing with MVA processing on AURORA 2 task and distant talking experiment, respectively.
It is shown that there exists a nonlinear mappping which transforms features and their changes to the desired camera motion without measurement of the relative distance between the camera and the part, and the nonlinear mapping can eliminate several difficulties encountered when using the inverse of the feature Jacobian as in the usual feature-based visual feedback controls. And instead of analytically deriving the closed form of such a nonlinear mapping, a fuzzy membership function (FMF) based neural network is then proposed to approximate the nonlinear mapping, where the structure of proposed networks is similar to that of radial basis function neural network which is known to be very useful in function approximations. The proposed FMF network is trained to be capable of tracking moving parts in the whole work space along the line of sight. For the effective implementation of proposed IMF networks, an image feature selection processing is investigated, and required fuzzy membership functions are designed. Finally, several numerical examples are illustrated to show the validities of our proposed visual servoing method.

In order to design an effective foot surface which can provide adequate friction for a self-propelled medical microrobot moving inside the small intestine, frictional mechanisms between the small intestine inner wall and the foot surface of the robot must be understood. In this paper, mechanical interlocking effect was considered to design the surface of the foot that can generate the desired frictional force. The concept of the design was derived from the hookworm that lives inside the small intestine. Hookwarms are known to adhere to the small intestine wall by interlocking with villi on the surface of the small intestine. The interlocking mechanism was considered as the main frictional mechanism for the design of the microrobot foot surface in this work. 2 mm and 6 mm diameter solid and hollow cylindrical shaped foot specimens were designed and tested to assess the frictional force between the specimens and the porcine small intestine specimen.
In this paper, a new target extraction algorithm is proposed, in which the coordinates of target are obtained adaptively by using the difference image information and the optical BPEJTC(binary phase extraction joint transform correlator) with which the target object can be segmented from the input image and background noises are removed in the stereo vision system. First, the proposed algorithm extracts the target object by removing the background noises through the difference image information of the sequential left images and then controlls the pan/tilt and convergence angle of the stereo camera by using the coordinates of the target position obtained from the optical BPEJTC between the extracted target image and the input image. From some experimental results, it is found that the proposed algorithm can extract the target object from the input image with background noises and then, effectively track the target object in real time. Finally, a possibility of implementation of the adaptive stereo object tracking system by using the proposed algorithm is also suggested.
This paper presents the method of AGV(Automatic guided vehicle)'s moving environment(plane, corner, edge) recognition using SONAR sensor configuration. As for the SONAR sensor, the Crosstalk effect has been generally considered as an inevitable noisy phenomenon in the indoor environment. However, this effect can be used as a clue for classifying and localizing targets in the indoor environment if those can be controlled and used well. EERUF(error eliminate rapid ultrasonic firing) is a method for firing multiple ultrasonic sensors in mobile robot application and multi-echo mode of POLARIOD Device can reduce the Crosstalk effect. Here, Crosstalk effect was reduced using EERUF and applied to the AGV with a simple wall-following algorithm in the indoor environment. This method was tesed by a typical AGV with multi SONAR sensors in the laboratory environment.
This paper presents the design of attachments for dual arms of disaster responding heavy machine. The heavy machine handles a variety of tasks such as cutting, shredding, picking and moving in unstructured environment. Despite the need for rapid response, the heavy machine has difficulty in repeatedly replacing the attachment depending on the task. Thus, we propose a method to solve this physical and functional contradiction relation by using TRIZ separation principles. Above all, the existing equipment and the required working scenarios were surveyed and summarized in order to separate the attachments functionally for right-handed, left-handed and two-handed operation. Then, we proposed the design directions and conceptual design as following: multi function type attachment A, for precise operation and various operations; grab type attachment B, for grasping irregular objects and auxiliary device for both arms to handle bulky objects.
The objective of this paper is, based upon the principles of artificial life, to induce emergent behaviors of multiple autonomous mobile robots which form from simple local rules to complex global intelligence. Here, we propose an architecture of neural network learing with reinforcement signals which perceives the neighborhood information and decides the direction and the velocity of movement as mobile robots navigates in a group. As results of the simulations, the optimum weights are obtained in real time, which not only prevent from the collisions between agents and obstacles in the dynamic environment, but also have the mobile robots move and keep in various patterns.

In this paper, we propose the novel behavior control algorithm by using the efficient searching method based on the characteristic of the swarm robots in unknown space. The proposed method consists of identifying the position and moving state of a robot by the dynamic modelling of a wheel drive vehicle, and planing behavior control rules of the swarm robots based on the sensor range zone. The cooperative search for unknown space is carried out by the proposed behavior control. Finally, some experiments show the effectiveness and the feasibility of the proposed method.
A special purpose automated storage and retrieval system is developed in which information media such as compact disc or video tapes can be stored. Hardware system includes rack, stacker crane with robot arm, conveyor, and bar code reader. Software system includes database for address management, user interface for quick scanning of information media by displaying moving image, and algorithms for selecting the closest open location. Such system is widely applicable to CD library or broadcasting station in the forthcoming information age. In this paper we present detailed procedure and tools that are used in designing and implementing such a special AS/R system.
