  • An iterative modal analysis approach is developed to determine the effect of transverse open cracks on the dynamic behavior of simply supported pipe conveying fluid subject to the moving mass. The equation of motion is derived by using Lagrange's equation. The influences of the velocity of moving mass and the velocity of fluid flow and a crack have been studied on the dynamic behavior of a simply supported pipe system by numerical method. The presence of crack results in higher deflections of pipe. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments i.e. the crack is modelled as a rotational spring. Totally, as the velocity of fluid flow and the crack severity are increased, the mid-span deflection of simply supported pipe conveying fluid is increased. The time which produce the maximum dynamic deflection of the simply supported pipe is delayed according to the increment of the crack severity.

  • In this paper, a dynamic behavior of spring supported cantilever beam with a crack and a moving mass is presented. Based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, the equation of motion can be constructed by using the Lagrange's eauation. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments i.e. the crack is modelled as a rotational spring. This flexibility matrix defines the relationship between the displacements and forces across the crack section and is derived by applying fundamental fracture mechanics theory. And the crack is assumed to be in the first mode of fracture. As the depth of the crack is increased the tip displacement of the cantilever beam is increased.

This flexibility matrix defines the relationship between the displacements and forces across the crack section, and is derived by applying a fundamental fracture mechanics theory. As the depth of the crack is increased, the mid-span deflection of the simply-supported beam, with the moving mass, is increased. The crack is positioned in the middle point of the pipe, and the mid-span defection of the simply-supported pipe represents maximum deflection.

  • The paper constitutes the second part of the author's study. The first part (Podworna 2010) formulates four fundamental tasks in dynamics of the bridge-track-train systems. The following cyclic moving loads are considered: a concentrated forces stream (model P), an unsprung masses stream (model M), a single-mass viscoelastic oscillators stream (model $M_o$) and a double-mass viscoelastic oscillators stream (model $MM_o$). Three problems precluding to the numerical simulations have been developed, i.e., prediction of the forced resonances, the parameters of integration of equations of motion, the output results. A computer programme was written in Pascal and numerical research in the scope of the fundamental tasks was worked out. The investigations were focused on adequacy evaluation of the moving load models, P, M, $M_o$, $MM_o$, in predicting dynamic processes in railway bridges.

  • In this paper, the vibration of a moderately thick plate to a moving mass is investigated. Pasternak foundation with a variable subgrade modulus is considered to tackle the shortcomings of Winkler model, and an analytical-numerical solution is proposed based on the eigenfunction expansion method. Parametric studies by using both CPT (Classical Plate Theory) and FSDT (First-Order Shear Deformation Plate Theory) are carried out, and, the differences between them are also highlighted. The obtained results reveal that utilizing FSDT without considering the rotary inertia leads to a smaller deflection in comparison with CPT pertaining to a thin plate, while it demonstrates a greater response for plates of higher thicknesses. Moreover, it is shown that CPT is unable to properly capture the variation of the plate thickness, thereby diminishing the accuracy as the thickness increases. The outcomes also indicate that the presence of a foundation contributes more to the dynamic response of thin plates in comparison to moderately thick plates. Furthermore, the findings suggest that the performance of the moving force approach for a moderately thick plate, in contrast to a thin plate, appears to be acceptable and it even provides a much better estimation in the presence of a foundation.

  • In this paper, a theoretical and numerical study on bridge simultaneous damage detection procedure for identifying both the system parameters and input excitation mass, are presented. This method is called 'Adjoint Variable Method' which is an iterative gradient-based model updating method based on the dynamic response sensitivity. The main advantage of proposed method is inclusion of an analytical method to augment the accuracy and speed of the solution. Moving mass is a model which takes into account the inertia effects of the vehicle. This interaction model is a time varying system and proposed method is capable of detecting damage in this variable system. Robustness of proposed method is illustrated by correctly detection of the location and extension of predetermined single, multiple and random damages in all ranges of speed and mass ratio of moving vehicle. A comparison study of common sensitivity and proposed method confirms its efficiency and performance improvement in sensitivity-based damage detection methods. Various sources of errors including the effects of measurement noise and initial assumption error in stability of method are also discussed.

  • Nearby young moving groups (NYMGs hereafter) are gravitationally unbound loose young stellar associations located within 100 pc of the Sun. Since NYMGs are crucial laboratories for studying low-mass stars and planets, intensive searches for NYMG members have been performed. For identification of NYMG members, various strategies and methods have been applied. As a result, the reliability of the members in terms of membership is not uniform, which means that a careful membership re-assessment is required. In this study, I developed a NYMG membership probability calculation tool based on Bayesian inference (Bayesian Assessment of Moving Groups: BAMG). For the development of the BAMG tool, I constructed ellipsoidal models for nine NYMGs via iterative and self-consistent processes. Using BAMG, memberships of claimed members in the literature (N~2000) were evaluated, and 35 per cent of members were confirmed as bona fide members of NYMGs. Based on the deficiency of low-mass members appeared in mass function using these bona fide members, low mass members from Gaia DR2 are identified. About 2000 new M dwarf and brown dwarf candidate members were identified. Memberships of ~70 members with RV from Gaia were confirmed, and the additional ~20 members were confirmed via spectroscopic observation. Not relying on previous knowledge about the existence of nine NYMGs, unsupervised machine learning analyses were applied to NYMG members. K-means and Agglomerative Clustering algorithms result in similar trends of grouping. As a result, six previously known groups (TWA, beta-Pic, Carina, Argus, AB Doradus, and Volans-Carina) were rediscovered. Three the other known groups are recognized as well; however, they are combined into two new separate groups (ThOr+Columba and TucHor+Columba).

  • This paper presents the series multiple tuned mass dampers (STMDs) to suppress the resonant vibrations of railway bridges under the passage of high-speed trains (HSTs). A STMD device consisting of two spring-mass-damper units connected each other in series is installed on the bridge. In solution, bridge is modeled as a simply-supported Euler-Bernoulli beam with constant cross-section, and vehicle is simulated as a series of moving forces with constant speed. By the assumed mode method, the governing equations of motion of the beam-TMD device coupled system traversed by a moving train are obtained. The optimum values for the parameters of the STMD device are obtained for the criterion based on the minimization of the maximum dynamic displacement of the beam at its midspan. Single TMD and multiple TMDs in parallel are also considered for demonstration of the STMD device's performance. The results show that STMDs are effective in bridge vibration suppression and robust to parameters' change in the main system and the absorber itself.
