  • The purpose of this study were to analyze the changes in kinematic and kinetic parameters and to find biomechanical benefits of Nordic Walking and normal gait performed under the same velocity. Nine participants(age: $26.73{\pm}3.28$ year, height: $182.45{\pm}4.62\;cm$, weight: $76.59{\pm}6.84\;kg$) was chosen. The velocity of gait was set by 5.75 km/h which was made by a Nordic Walking professional. The data were collected by using VICON with 8 cameras to analyze kinematic variables with 200 Hz and force platform to analyze kinetic variables with 2000 Hz. The results of this study were as follows. First, when compared with Normal gait, Nordic Walking group showed decreased Plantarflexion angle and ROM. Second, Nordic Walking group showed decreased knee flexion angle and ROM. Third, Nordic Walking group showed increased hip joint movement. Fourth, Nordic Walking group showed higher active GRF but decreased loading rate from delayed Peak Vertical GRF time and increased impulse. Fifth, Nordic Walking group showed longer ground contact time. Through this study, we found that Nordic Walking showed higher stability and efficiency during gait than normal gait and that Nordic Walking may help people who have walking difficulties.

  • When an almost flat surface under test is measured by an interferometer, the measurement result is largely influenced by systematic errors that include geometrical errors of a reference flat surface. To determine the systematic errors of the interferometer by the conventional method that is called the three flat method, we must take the reference flat surface out from the interferometer and measure it. Because of difficulties to set the reference flat surface to the interferometer exactly and quickly, this method is not practical. On the other hand, the method that measures a surface under test with some shifts in the direction being perpendicular to the optical axis of the interferometer is studied. However, the parasitic pitching, rolling and up-down movement caused by the above shifts brings serious error to the measurement result, and the algorithm by which the influences can be eliminated is not still established. In this paper, we propose the self-calibration algorithm for determining the systematic errors that include geometrical errors of a reference flat surface by several rotation shifts and a linear shift of general surface under test, and verify by a numerical experiment that this algorithm is useful for determining the systematic errors.

  • Out-of-home mobility is necessary for accessing commodities, making use of neighborhood facilities, and participation in meaningful social, cultural, and physical activities. Mobility also promotes healthy aging as it relates to the basic human need of physical movement. Mobility is typically assessed either with standardized performance-based tests or with self-reports of perceived difficulty in carrying out specific mobility tasks. Mobility declines with increasing age, and the most complex and demanding tasks are affected first. Sometimes people cope with declining functional capacity by making changes in their way or frequency of doing these tasks, thus avoiding facing manifest difficulties. From the physiological point of view, walking is an integrated result of the functioning of the musculoskeletal, cardio-respiratory, sensory and neural systems. Studies have shown that interventions aiming to increase muscle strength will also improve mobility. Physical activity counseling, an educational intervention aiming to increase physical activity, may also prevent mobility decline among older people. Sensory deficits, such as poor vision and hearing may increase the risk of mobility decline. Consequently, rehabilitation of sensory functions may prevent falls and decline in mobility. To promote mobility, it is not enough to target only individuals because environmental barriers to mobility may also accelerate mobility decline among older people. Communities need to promote the accessibility of physical environments while also trying to minimize negative or stereotypic attitudes toward the physical activity of older people.

  • The performance of a wooden deck made of refractory materials that have difficulties in achieving target penetrations as stipulated in the specification and quality standards for treated wood in Korea, was assessed via a case study in this research. A wooden deck built in Jinju in 2009 was selected for this study because of its fabrication method using pressure and treated refractory materials. The penetration and retention analysis did not satisfy the domestic standard for treated wood. Inspection of the deck in 2019 revealed that the deck had been attacked by decay fungi. Cap rails showed much deeper and wider checking on their surface compared with the top and base rails, resulting in a severe fungal attack. The decking boards exhibited severe fungal decay primarily in the end parts. However, the rails and balusters without checks and posts were virtually free of fungal attack irrespective of the preservative penetration measures. Copper content in the soil 5 cm away from the deck was less than 150 mg/kg, implying that copper movement in the soil was very limited. These results suggest that the inhibition of surface propagation and the protection of end surfaces are essential factors in increasing the longevity of treated wooden decks; further, the results also showed that the deck was within an acceptable range from the point of copper contamination.

  • A one-touch descending lifeline that can easily be installed and rapidly evacuated in the event of a fire accident in high-rise buildings was proposed to overcome difficulties of conventional descending lifeline such as complex installation methods and procedures. However, this lifeline exhibits limitations such as restrictions in installation location and large apparatus size. Therefore, this paper proposes a sliding-type descending lifeline, which has a similar operation to that of current one-touch descending lifeline and solves the aforementioned limitations. A double square link mechanism including a sliding four-bar linkage is proposed and the descending lifeline support is redesigned to unfold in two different planes, allowing 3D movement. Additionally, the shape of the support frame is designed to obtain two attachment surfaces that can be attached to a wall, irrespective of the angle between the window and the inner wall. FEA analysis using ABAQUS is performed to ensure that the robustness of the presented support complies with the Fire Control Act Enforcement Decree. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed sliding one-touch descending lifeline is verified through fabrication.

  • In this paper, we try to solve the difficulties of the location of the structure for the movement of the wire - based pesticide spraying equipment designed for field farming. To do this, we apply earth resistivity measurement method and analysis technique which can indirectly grasp the earth structure. Electrodes are installed on the field in a selected farming area, and multi-switches built in the control board are driven to automatically acquire ground resistivity data. Then, the optimal point suitable for the actual structure installation is selected through the site analysis using the 2D image restoration algorithm.

  • Robots are used in various industrial sites, but traditional methods of operating a robot are limited at some kind of tasks. In order for a robot to accomplish a task, it is needed to find and solve accurate formula between a robot and environment and that is complicated work. Accordingly, reinforcement learning of robots is actively studied to overcome this difficulties. This study describes the process and results of learning and solving which applied reinforcement learning. The mission that the robot is going to learn is bottle flipping. Bottle flipping is an activity that involves throwing a plastic bottle in an attempt to land it upright on its bottom. Complexity of movement of liquid in the bottle when it thrown in the air, makes this task difficult to solve in traditional ways. Reinforcement learning process makes it easier. After 3-DOF robotic arm being instructed how to throwing the bottle, the robot find the better motion that make successful with the task. Two reward functions are designed and compared the result of learning. Finite difference method is used to obtain policy gradient. This paper focuses on the process of designing an efficient reward function to improve bottle flipping motion.

  • Fire must be extinguished as quickly as possible because they cause a lot of economic loss and take away precious human lives. Especially, the detection of smoke, which tends to be found first in fire, is of great importance. Smoke detection based on image has many difficulties in algorithm research due to the irregular shape of smoke. In this study, we introduce a new real-time smoke detection algorithm that reduces the detection of false positives generated by irregular smoke shape based on faster r-cnn of factory-installed surveillance cameras. First, we compute the global frame similarity and mean squared error (MSE) to detect the movement of smoke from the input surveillance camera. Second, we use deep learning algorithm (Faster r-cnn) to extract deferred candidate regions. Third, the extracted candidate areas for acting are finally determined using space and temporal features as smoke area. In this study, we proposed a new algorithm using the space and temporal features of global and local frames, which are well-proposed object information, to reduce false positives based on deep learning techniques. The experimental results confirmed that the proposed algorithm has excellent performance by reducing false positives of about 99.0% while maintaining smoke detection performance.

  • Purpose : To provide the understanding of abdominal hollowing exercise, this study reviewed literatures related with TrA and AHE. Methods : We reviewed the prior studies related with TrA and AHE. Results : Crook lying is easier to facilitate isolated contraction of TrA from EO than the others. The contraction of the TrA is shown to be the highest muscle activity in prone lying. Additionally, wall support standing(or standing) is shown a higher contraction of entire abdominal muscle than the others. However, learning and teaching correct AHE have innate difficulties in four positions. Conclusion : We have to consider that Rehabilitative Ultrasonic Imaging(RUSI) can facilitate accurate AHE. In the country, physical therapists will be necessary more training and efforts to use ultrasound because very few use ultrasound in clinical field. It will be necessary to study the effects of RUSI feedback and examine effects of exercises in combination with AHE.
