Fiber Bragg Grating Strain Sensing in Reinforced Concrete Beams (광섬유 BRAGG GRATING SENSOR를 이용한 철근 콘크리트 보의 변형 측정)

  • Fiber Bragg Grating sensors currently attract a great deal of attentions, mainly due to their potentials in health monitoring for civil structures and composite materials. In this experimental study, the strains of reinforced concrete beams were measured to failure In order to verify the applicability of FBG(Fiber Bragg Grating) sensors. The FBG sensors were directly buried in concrete and attached to re-bars at the time of fabrication. In this experiment, the changes of strains in concrete and re-bars were successfully measured as the movement in wavelength of light signals. The FBG sensors may be a very effective tool to investigate the behavior inside of reinforced concrete structures.

  • Generally, underwater gliders do not have separate propellers for their forward movement. They derive a propulsive force due to the difference between their buoyancy and gravity. The attitude of an underwater glider is controlled by changing the relative position of the buoyancy center and mass center. In this study, we derived nonlinear 6-DOF dynamic and mathematical models for the motion controller and buoyancy controller. Using these equations, we performed dynamic underwater glider simulations and verified the suitability of the design and dynamic performance of the proposed underwater glider.

Behavior of Soil-Reinforced Segmental Retaining Walls Subjected to Earthquake Loading (보강토 옹벽의 지진시 거동)

  • This paper presents the results of finite element analysis on the seismic response of a soil-reinforced segmental retaining wall subjected to a prescribed earthquake record. The results of finite element analysis indicate that the maximum wall displacement occurs at the top, exhibiting a cantilever type of wall movement. Also revealed is that the increase in reinforcement force is more pronounced in the upper part of the reinforced zone, resulting in a more or less uniform distribution. None of the design guidelines appears to be able to correctly predict the dynamic force increase when compared with the results of finite element analysis. The calculation model adopted by the NCMA guideline, however, appears to compare better with the results of finite element analysis as well as field survey than the FHWA guideline. Based on the findings from this study, a number of implications to the current design methods are discussed.

  • 본 논문에서는 생물의 2차원영상에서 4가지의 특징을 추출한 다음 약품에 대한 생물의 행동 패턴 반응에 대하여 의사결정나무를 적용하여 패턴의 인식 및 분류를 하였다. 생물의 행동패턴을 대변하는 물리적인 특징인 속도, 방향전환 각도, 이동거리에 대하여 각각 중간이상속도비율, FFT(Fast Fourier Transformation), 2차원 히스토그램 면적, 프렉탈, 무게중심을 사용하여 특징을 추출하였다. 이렇게 추출된 4가지의 특징변수들을 사용하여 의사결정나무 모델을 구성한 다음 생물의 약품 첨가에 대한 반응을 분석하였다. 또한 결과에서는 기존의 생물의 행동패턴 구분에 쓰였던 전형적인 기법(conventional methods)보다 본 연구에서 적용한 의사결정나무가 생물의 행동패턴이 가지는 물리적 요소에 대한 독해력을 가짐을 보임으로써 특정환경에서 이동행동에 대한 분석을 용이하게 하고자 하였다.

  • This study was conducted to assess performances of the developed environmental control systems under various seasons of Korea. In all trials for the environmental control systems, the manure pit ventilation system in the windowless pig-housing with partly slatted floor was used. Consequently, under all seasons of Korea, the complex environmental control systems could comfortably maintain the indoor temperature (14.8~27.2$^{\circ}C$) , concentrations of noxious gases (CO2 gas : 631~1,874ppm, NH3 gas : 0.3~3.2ppm), air velocity (0.11~0.23m/s), air movement, and so on. Therefore, the performances of the complex environmental control systems were evaluated as proper as the intended.

  • An irritable larynx syndrome is characterized by a sudden episodic dyspnea and dysphonia that is difficult to diagnose, and patients are often treated unnecessarily and/or too much. A correct diagnosis can be made by monitoring the larynx closing in the reversed direction during inhalation and posterior chink with videolaryngoscopy and by measuring a decrease in air flow volume during inhalation with a lung function test. Patients can be effectively treated with thorough differential diagnosis. Medications targeting precipitating factors, physical therapy sessions to improve abnormal larynx movement, counseling to reduce patients'anxiety rising from dyspnea, and etc. can effectively alleviate symptoms.

Application of DEM to Simulate Interaction between Soil and Tire Lug

  • Using the modified DEM (Distinct Element Model), which we proposed, the effect of cross section of tire lug on the tire performance was simulated. Though the DEM has an advantage over the FEM when it is applied to simulate the behavior of discrete assembly of particles such as soil, there was still a problem in the case of conventional DEM, that the simulated movement of particles was too free. We constructed a new mechanical model (modified DEM) which can take account of the effect of adhesion between particles. It is shown that the soil deformation is simulated by the modified DEM better than the conventional DEM. Comparing the simulated soil reaction to the tire lug with the experimental results, the adequate DEM parameters were found. It is also indicated possible to find the effect of lug cross section shape on the tractive performance of tire by the DEM simulation.

  • A rheology casting technology has some advantages compared with conventional forming processes such as die casting, squeeze casting and hot/cold forming. The liquid segregation is important on mechanical properties of materials using rheology casting. In this study, so, molecular dynamics simulations were performed for the control of liquid segregation. Because the dynamics of fluid flow about nano-scaled materials is completely different from continuum, molecular dynamics simulations were used. The behavior of particles was far from the truth according to boundary conditions in simple flow. But various movement of particles appear at two or more molecular simulations.

A Study on the Anisotropy of Al 7075 Rolling Material in Fatigue Crack Growth Process (Al 7075 압연재의 피로균열 성장과정에서의 이방성에 관한 연구)

  • The research has extracted two kinds of specimen, one is rolling direction material(R-material) and the other rectangular of rolling direction(V-material), from Al alloy 7075 rolled. We have come to a conclusion by measuring crack propagation behavior with movement type microscope and Replica. 1) R-material shows 130% higher, approx. 39.2MPa in fatigue strength than V-material, approx. 29.4MPa. 2) In crack proportion, contrary to V-material growing directly toward specimen axis, R-material grows neared to shear direction. 3) The life proves that R-material is approx. 122% higher than V-material at 43.1MPa and approx. 135% higher at 47MPa. 4) The correlation between fatigue crack length and fracture life ratio applied to 'log(2a)=A+B ($N/N_f$)'equation shows inappropriate, because property value of Al alloy is low and the difference of chemical composition is high comparing with steel material.

  • Tic disorder show purposeless, repeated, unexpected, involuntary behavior and voice, can be divided into motor, vocal tic. this is about a patient who suffered from motor tic, tachycardia and other symptoms. We treated him with Sa-am acupuncture and other oriental medicine from the viewpoint of weak of kidney power. involuntary movement was estimated by doctor with Yale Global Tic Severity Scale(YGTSS). The patient's motor tic, tachycardia and other symptoms were improved and YGTSS also decresed.
