  • This paper describes current controlled PWM technique of PM synchronous motors for a wide variety of speed control applications. They are however limited in their ability to operate in the power limited regime where the available torque is reduced as the speed is increased above its base value. This paper reviews the operation of the PMSM drives when they are constrained to be within the permissible envelope of maximum inverter voltage and current to produce the rated power and to provide this with the highest attainable rotor speed. The optimal field-weakening control algorithm is the use of phase current and d-axis current feedback to reduce of error between the d-axis current command and real current and to improve the torque characteristics. The improved torque characteristics of speed control strategy with optimal field weakening control algorithm is analyzed and the performance is investigated by the computer simulation and experimental results. • In this paper a control system with a high performance dynamic response for linear induction motors (LIMs) is proposed which takes into account the end-effect in both the machine model and the control system. Primary flux oriented control has two major drawbacks i.e. a lack of decoupling of the thrust and the flux and a possibility of system instability due to the end-effect. Both of these drawbacks have been dealt with in this paper. A flux estimation method is proposed to correct the flux orientation error caused by the end effect. Extensive motor performance evaluations under the proposed control system prove its superiority over conventional vector control.

  • This paper presents a torque ripple reduction algorithm for the switched reluctance motor drives using the fuzzy logic and the sliding mode control. A turn-on angle controller based on the fuzzy logic determines the optimal turn-on angle. In addition, a sliding mode torque control (SMTC) methods reduces torque ripples instantaneously in the commutation region. The proposed algorithm does not require complex system models considering nonlinear magnetizing or demagnetizing periods of the phase current. According to the rotor speed and torque, the proposed controller changes the turn-on angle and reference torque instantaneously until the torque ripples are minimized. The simulation and experimental results verify the validity of minimizing the torque ripple performance.

  • Piezoelectric motors have been successfully developed for various applications like autofocus drives in camera lenses and handling equipment for high-accuracy positioning. In this paper, the travelling-wave motor which used in the camera lense, using bending vibration of a ring was studied. The basic structure of the motor is same but we suggested a few parameters for considering their design. The parameter is different from sine and cosine region of the voltage of the ceramic surface, displacement according to the wave number difference, and the phase difference. Same size of ceramics and aluminium ring were used for the stator. As a result, the displacement is dependent on the wave number.

  • Power converters are widely used in the applications of servo drives of ac and dc motors and power supplies. For the control of the converters carious control algorithms have been proposed and realized by gating signal generation. Software control shemes are being applied to implement the control algorithms, but analog circuits are still used for the gating signal generation because it requires very fast and precise timing. In this paper the gating signal generation with DSP software are proposed for the three phase to three phase PWM converter. Design procedures and software flowcharts are presented and some experimental waveforms are also presented to verify the proposed algorithms.

  • Vibration of disk drive spindle is one of the major limiting factors in achieving higher track densities in hard disk drives. Vibration of a BLDC motor is a coupled phenomenon between mechanical characteristics and magnetic origins through the motor air-gap. In this paper, radial magnetic forces for symmetric and asymmetric BLDC motor are calculated with respect to the various rotor eccentricity using analytic method. Based on the results of the radial magnetic forces, transient whirl responses of the spindle motor are analyzed using finite element and transfer matrices. Results show that an asymmetric motor has a worse effects on unbalanced magnetic forces and vibration when mechanical and magnetic coupling exists.

  • This study presents an electromagnetic model for predicting shaft voltages in a 2-pole field-excited synchronous generator. After the first observations on shaft voltages were made more than a century ago, extensive work has been conducted on eliminating, mitigating, and integrating the aforementioned phenomena. Given that emphasis has been placed on modeling shaft- and bearing-induced voltages in AC motors driven by variable frequency drives, similar efforts toward a model that is dedicated to generators are insubstantial. This work endeavors to improve current physical interpretation and prediction methods for shaft-induced voltages in generators through semi-analytical derivation. Aside from the experimental validation of the model, investigations regarding the behavior of shaft voltages under varying machine complexities and operating conditions clarify previous uncertainties regarding these phenomena. The performance of the numerical method is also assessed for application in eccentricity fault diagnosis.

  • Hip joint simulator which Is an essential device for evaluating the wear of biomaterials (ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene, Co-Cr alloy, alumina, etc.) used in total hip joint replacement was developed. This hip joint simulator mimics the joint motion and joint loading of human gait by adapting the 4 degree of freedom in kinematic motion (flexing/extension, adduction/abduction, Internal rotation/external rotation) and axial loading, Four stations are operated by 8 servo-motors and harmony drives. Joint leading was imposed by displacement control from a ball screw, LM guide, and spring system. Each kinematic link system operates separately or coupled modes. A heater and a thermocouple were installed for keeping the body temperature in each station.
