In this paper, an adaptive speed controller with an FNN(Feedforward Neural Network) is proposed for servo motor drives. Generally, the motor system has nonlinearities in friction, load disturbance and magnetic saturation. It is necessary to treat the nonlinearities for improving performance in servo control. The FNN can be applied to control and identify a nonlinear dynamical system by learning capability. In this study, at first, a robust speed controller is developed by Lyapunov stability theory. However, the control input has discontinuity which generates an inherent chattering. To solve the problem and to improve the performances, the FNN is introduced to convert the discontinuous input to continuous one in error boundary. The FNN is applied to identify the inverse dynamics of the motor and to control the motor using coordination of feedforward control combined with inverse motor dynamics identification. The proposed controller is developed for an SR motor which has highly nonlinear characteristics and it is compared with an MRAC(Model Reference Adaptive Controller). Experiments on an SR motor illustrate te validity of the proposed controller.

A hgih efficiency and good dynamic performance drive system of an induction motor is presented in this paper using vector control technique. If the induction motor is driven under light loads with rated flux, the iron loss is excessively large compared with the copper loss, resulting in poor motor efficiency. High efficiency drive of an induction motor can be achieved by adjusting the flux level which leads the total motor loss to be a minimum value. Generally reducing the flux degrades the dynamic performance, but the dynamic performance of the proposed system is also maintained high. If the d-axis is coincident with rotor flux phasor in synchronous rotating reference frame, the stator current can be decoupled as flux component and torque component. At steady state, the developed motor torque is proportional to the product of the flux and torque component. The combination of the two components minimizing the motor loss could be found with numerical method. As the procedure to obtain the optimal combination is too hard, it is found experimentally. The system block diagram is suggested for maximum efficiency control. The proposed system is studied through digital simulation and verified with experiment. The experimental results show the possiblity of a high efficiency drive with good dynamic performance of maximum efficiency control.

The purpose of this paper is to find an effective control system for a hydraulic motor-load system using matlab. The Hydraulic control system consists of a hydraulic pump, a hydraulic proportional control valve, hydraulic pipelines, a hydraulic motor and a load system. The simulation models were verified by comparing the simulation results with measured data from the real hydraulic proportional position control system. In order to compensate the nonlinear friction characteristics in a hydraulic motor-load system, a discrete time PD controller and Friction torque observer has been applied.
In order to develop a deep-underground great train express (GTX) in South Korea, the specifications decision and development of a traction control system (including an inverter and a traction motor), which considers a variety of route conditions, must be advanced. In this study, we examined the running resistance properties of a high-speed traction system based on a variety of tunnel types and vehicle organization methods. Then, we studied the power requirements necessary for the traction motor to maintain balanced speed in the high-speed traction system. From this, we determined the design criteria for the development of a high-speed traction system for use in the deep-underground GTX. Finally, we designed a linear induction motor (LIM) for a propulsion system, and we used the finite element method (FEM) to analyze its performance as it travelled through deep-underground tunnels.
In robot operation, a motor with multi-degree of freedom motion control and an encoder for motor control are needed. To perform precise motion, location, and velocity control, the operation of motor and encoder with superior performance is important. In this paper, we studied performance evaluation system that can evaluate the performance of motor and encoder. The performance of motor and encoder can be evaluated in terms of disconnection check, signal variation count, and U, V, W signal check. Disconnection check verifies signal connection between a motor and an encoder, signal variation check verifies A, B signal by counting the number of signal A, B when a motor revolves, and U, V, W signal check verifies operating direction of a motor. The result is shown at graphic LCD integrated in system, and can be checked in PC with PC communication.

In this paper, human motor behaving model based sensory motor coordination(SMC) algorithm is implemented on robotic grasping task. Compare to conventional SMC models which connect sensor to motor directly, the proposed method used biologically inspired human behaving system in conjunction with SMC algorithm for fast grasping force control of robot arm. To characterize various grasping objects, pressure sensors on hand gripper were used. Measured sensory data are simultaneously transferred to perceptual mechanism(PM) and long term memory(LTM), and then the sensory information is forwarded to the fastest channel among several information-processing flows in human motor system. In this model, two motor learning routes are proposed. One of the route uses PM and the other uses short term memory(STM) and LTM structure. Through motor learning procedure, successful information is transferred from STM to LTM. Also, LTM data are used for next moor plan as reference information. STM is designed to single layered perception neural network to generate fast motor plan and receive required data which comes from LTM. Experimental results showed that proposed method can control of the grasping force adaptable to various shapes and types of greasing objects, and also it showed quicker grasping-behavior lumining time compare to simple feedback system.
Light Rail Transit (LRT) is optimized vehicle system for complex urban circumstance. LRT systems have many merits such as improved accuracy and safety. There are many LRT systems such as monorail, tram, automated guideway transit, linear induction motor propulsion and so on. These systems have been operated in Japan and other advanced countries. In Korea, local government has many projects to apply the advanced LRT system. But there are no standards regulation, performance test regulation and construction regulation for monorail system, linear induction motor system and tram in Korea. We expect that standardization brings economical construction and safety. The linear induction motor system has been usually applied to subway in Japan and ART(Advanced Rapid Transit) in Canada. In Korea, the linear induction motor system has been adopted for Yong-In LRT and currently under construction. This paper presents signalling system and TCMS(train control and monitoring system) of linear induction motor system.

Ultra precision positioning mechanism has widely been used on semiconductor manufacturing equipments, optical spectrum analyzer and cell manipulations. Ultra precision positioning mechanism is consisted of several actuators, sensors, guides and control systems. Its efficiency depends on each performance of components. The object of this study is to design, analysis and manufacture all of the inchworm linear motor system, which is one of the equipments embodied in ultra precision positioning mechanism. Inchworm linear motor system is consisted of a controller system and an inchworm linear motor, and its driving form is similar to a motion of spanworm. A design and manufacture of inchworm linear motor, which is consisted of three PZT actuators, a rod, two columns and a guide plate, are performed. Minimizing the von-Mises stress of the hinge using Taguchi method and simulation by FEM software optimizes the structural design in a column of flexure hinge. The designed columns and guide plates are manufactured by a W-EDM and NC-milling. A controller system, which is an apparatus to drive inchworm linear motor, can easily adjust driving conditions by varying resonance frequency and input-output voltage of actuators and amplifiers. The performance of manufactured inchworm linear motor system is verified and valuated. In the future, inchworm linear motor system will be used to make a more precision positioning by reinforcing a sensor and feedback system.
48-V ISG (Integrated Starter Generator) system has attracted attention to improve the fuel efficiency of ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicle. One of the key components that significantly affects the cost and performance of the 48-V ISG system is the motor. In an ISG motor, the core and copper loss make the motor efficiency change because the motor has a broad driving operated range and more diverse driving modes compared with other motors. When designing an ISG motor, the selection of an electrical steel sheet is important, because the electrical steel sheet directly influences the efficiency of the motor. In this paper, the efficiency of the ISG motor, considering core loss and copper loss, is analyzed by testing different types of electrical steel sheets with respect to the driving speed range and mode. Using the results of a finite element method (FEM) analysis, a method to select the electrical steel sheet is proposed. This method considers the cost of the steel sheet and the efficiency according to driving mode frequency during the design process of the motor. A wound rotor synchronous machine (WRSM) was applied to the ISG motor in this study.
Air Management System is composed by Pump, Fan, Compressor and Blower In general their performances depend on the capability of the motor, power converter device and controller. Especially, it should be noticed upon designing Air Management System using for Fuel Cell System, that Pump, Fan, Compressor and Blower satisfy the condition of the high performance, high efficiency, high density and reasonable price considering the safety and Economic Efficiency. In order for this, it should be studied that which kind of Motor is the most suited for Air Management System for Fuel Cell, such as Induction Motor, Brushless DC Motor, and Switched Reluctance Motor which is widely using in industry. This paper presents the designing and manufacturing of Outer Rotor Type BLDC Motor and Driver for Air Blower of Air Management System. Experimental results from a laboratory prototype arc presented to validate the feasibility of the proposed Air Blower Motor and Driver.
