  • For the accurate analysis of induction motors driven by PWM-type inverter, a time-stepping finite element method is presented in this paper. Since the PWM-type source voltage is not sinusoidal, the time harmonic method can not be used. Therefore, we used a time-stepping method, where the space harmonics due to the slot structure can be analyzed and each time-step size is determined from each increase of rotor position. As a numerical example, an induction motor of 20 Hp, 3 phase and 6 pole is analyzed. First, numerical results of the time-stepping finite element analysis are compared to those of conventional equivated circuit analysts. Next, the stator current characteristic obtained from PWM voltage source is compared to that from sinusoidal voltage source.

Development of A Small VCM Focusing Actuator Using Curved Suspensions (곡선 서스펜션을 사용한 초소형 VCM 포커싱 구동기 개발)

  • This paper proposes small VCM(voice coil motor) type, auto-focusing and zoom actuators for mobile information devices. In order to meet the large output displacement within small height restriction, the proposed auto-focusing actuator adopts curved suspensions, which are similar to a leaf-spring type suspension of optical disk drives. The sensitivity of design parameters on output displacement and dynamic performance is implemented using ANSYS (3D FEM tool) to determine the optimal geometry and stiffness of the curved suspensions. This paper also investigates a new zoom actuator without a suspension supporting a bobbin. The zoom actuator uses a moving rail and a stoper mechanism by generating rotational force at lens holder. Magnetic flux density of the zoom actuator are calculated by both the FEM and permeance method. Experiments using prototypes of the proposed focusing and zoom models show that both actuators meet the required displacement and performance.

Design and Fabrication of a Digital Protection Relay for Reverse-Open Phase (디지털 역결상 보호 계전기의 설계 및 제작)

  • Induction motors connected with a three-phase AC system may malfunction due to reverse phase or open phase faults. Conventional overcurrent relays and overheating relays are used to prevent such accidents; however, their drawbacks include a low response speed and false operation. Therefore, in this study, a digital relay for the reverse-open phase was designed and fabricated. This relay can detect the reverse phase and open phase faults and send a trigger signal to the control circuit. The proposed relay was developed based on a microcontroller. The detection times of the reverse phase and open phase were verified as 320ms and 80ms, respectively. Compared with conventional relays that only protect the motor from one type of fault, the proposed relay can detect both, reverse phase and open phase faults. In addition, the fault detection, identification criterion, and trigger signal patterns can be modified by programming according to the requirements of users.

Passivity-Based Control System of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors Based on Quasi-Z Source Matrix Converter

  • Because of the shortcomings of the PID controllers and traditional drive systems of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs), a PMSM passivity-based control (PBC) drive system based on a quasi-Z source matrix converter (QZMC) is proposed in this paper. The traditional matrix converter is a buck converter with a maximum voltage transmission ratio of only 0.866, which limits the performance of the driven motor. Therefore, in this paper a quasi-Z source circuit is added to the input side of the two-stage matrix converter (TSMC) and its working principle has also been verified. In addition, the controller of the speed loop and current loop in the conventional vector control of a PMSM is a PID controller. The PID controller has the problem since its parameters are difficult to adjust and its anti-interference capability is limited. As a result, a port controlled dissipative Hamiltonian model (PCHD) of a PMSM is established. Thereafter a passivity-based controller based on the interconnection and damping assignment (IDA) of a QZMC-PMSM is designed, and the stability of the equilibrium point is theoretically verified. Simulation and experimental results show that the designed PBC control system of a PMSM based on a QZMC can make the PMSM run stably at the rated speed. In addition, the system has strong robustness, as well as good dynamic and static performances.

  • To cater to the transition from single-color to multicolor/multi-material printing, this paper proposes a cartridge-replacing type multi-nozzle Fused Depositon Modeling(FDM) three-dimensional (3D) printer. In the test printing run, tool change failure/wobble/layer shift occurred. It was confirmed that improper support was the cause of this tool change failure. As a solution, spline and electromagnetic cartridges were designed. Wobble was caused by machine vibration and the motor stepping out. To minimize wobble, an additional Z-axis was installed, and the four-point bed leveling method was used instead of the three-point bed leveling method. The occurrence of layer shift was ascribed to the eccentricity of the Z-axis lead screw. Therefore, slit coupler was replaced with an Oldham type. In addition to the mechanical supplementation, the control environment was integrated to prevent accidents and signal errors due to wire connections. Before the final test printing run, a rectifier circuit was added to the motor to secure precise control stability. The final test printing run confirmed that the wobble/layer shift phenomenon was minimized, and the maximum error between layers was reduced to 0.05.

The Improvement of Electrical Point Machine Wiring Set (선로전환기(NS)의 배선세트 개선)

  • An Electrical Point Machine (NS:New-type Switch), which is equipped and operated at railways in Korea, has been used since the 1960s after being imported from Japan. On the other hand, although the mechanical configuration has improved the position motor control circuit, the electrical connection has not been improved, so NS may have a problem, such as the interlocking system of automatic train operation. In addition, NS is the most vulnerable part in the railway system and a huge train accident may occur due to minor defects. The existing NS wiring set of the circuit controller should be checked only if fixed. Therefore, an excessive inspection time only by a Railroad Signal expert is required. In this paper, the improvement of electrical connection in a NS wiring set, such as the position motor control circuit, was developed and the prototype was installed at Seoul Metro in the distance to go section. The results can be used to help make appropriate adjustments. The improvement of the NS wiring set enhance the maintenance efficiency, passenger service and the stability of the signal system as well as reducing the maintenance cost.

A Study on PWM Speed Controller for Long line Fishing Motor (어로 작업용 연승기 전동기의 PWM 속도제어기에 관한 연구)

  • The long line fishing machine is combined with motor and two disc rollers has used on the small size fishing-boat under 1 ton located in near Jeollanam-do seaside. The long line fishing motor is controlled only one direction because the fishing line is loaded heavily at pulling up. On this paper we made the long line fishing 400W power motor controller which it was usually applied under 1 ton fishing boat, and designed the controller using PWM chip, Half bridge driver and MOSFET for one direction motor control. Furthermore some user convenience devices were added like battery indicator and safety protection circuit for battery overdischarge and battery source wire mismatch connection. So we protected the battery from overdicharging when the battery voltage was below 11.5V and fishermen didn't need to worry about source lines misconnection anymore. We confirmed the test version of controller was the good working condition at land and sea.

Tribological Failure Examples Involving Hydraulic Unit, Sensor, Computer of Anti-lock Brake System in Passenger Cars (승용차 ABS의 하이드로릭 유닛, 센서, 컴퓨터에 관련된 트라이볼로지적인 고장사례 고찰)

  • In this paper, we present our analysis of tribological failure examples for an anti-lock brake system(ABS) in a car. The study range of this paper is to improve the quality of ABS system by analyzing with sensor, computer, actuator and oil lines. In the first example, the brake leak from hydraulic supply line in a caliper on the rear left side of the ABS hydraulic modulator. This produces the sponge phenomenon, where the car does not brake even when the driver operates the brake pedal. The hydraulic unit operating ABS is actuator that play role regulating drive condition according with the oil pressure supplied with wheel of a car. In the second example, the service man does not completely tighten the fixed bolt after repairing the car. This causes the ABS warning lamp to light up as the ABS wheel speed sensor cannot detect whether the ABS has been activated. In the third example, the ABS electronic control unit is separated from the soldered part of the inner circuit board. Consequently, the ABS fails in control because the ABS motor pump receives no-signal for the hydraulic unit. The wheel speed sensor has to large durability because of giving signal of acting condition to computer by detected the acceleration and deceleration of wheel of a car. In the fourth example, the ABS warning lamp lights up of when cracks propagate in the circuit board soldering part. The circuit of this computer is very important part for input and output the operating signal of system. Such failures can aggravate the durability of the ABS. Thus, the ABS needs to be optimized to eliminate malfunction phenomenon.

  • This paper deals with the nodal admittance approach steady-state frequency domain analysis of the three-phase self-excited induction generator (SEIG) driven by the variable speed prime mover as the wind turbine. The steady-state performance analysis of this power conditioner designed for the renewable energy is based on the principle of equating the input mechanical power of the three-phase SEIG to the output mechanical power of the variable speed prime mover mentioned above. Us-ing the approximate frequency domain based equivalent circuit of the three-phase SEIG. The main features of the present algorithm of the steady-state performance analysis of the three-phase SEIG treated here are that the variable speed prime mover characteristics are included in the approximate equivalent circuit of the three-phase SEIG under the condition of the speed changes of the prime mover without complex computations processes. Furthermore, a feedback closed-loop voltage regulation of the three-phase SEIG as a power conditioner which is driven by variable speed prime movers such as the wind turbine(WT) employing the static VAR compensator(SVC) circuit composed of the thyristor phase controlled reactor(TCR) and the thyristor switched capacitor(TSC) controlled by the PI controller is designed and considered for wind-turbine driving power conditioner.

Performance Analysis of Single-phase SRM Drive System with Single-stage Power Factor Correction (1단구조방식의 PFC회로를 갖는 단상 SRM 구동시스템의 특성해석)

  • In this paper the characteristic analysis of a single-phase switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive system with power factor correction (PFC) circuit is presented. The SRM is a low cost, simple and has a good high speed performance. The SRM drive with diode rectifier and filter capacitor has a low power factor because of short switch on time of capacitor. A novel switching topologic is presented to improve power factor and reduce torque ripple based on analysis of PFC circuit. Accordingly the SRM drive system with PFC circuit is also presented. Through the numerical analysis of the system, the toque ripple, power factor and efficiency with the change of rotary speed, load torque and capacity of the capacitor are achieved and compared with actual measured value.
